SED-ML Script Language
The Simulation Experiment Description Markup Language (SED-ML) is a XML format describing simulation experiments, so that they can be easily exchanged independent of software tools that created them. This document describes the SED-ML Script, a Python based shorthand that makes it easy to create / edit SED-ML documents
Education for all five years after Dakar. The long road of Yemen
Although there are positive developments in the education of Yemen and other Arabic countries, it is yet unclear if the Dakar-goals can be achieved; especially the education of girls is a critical aspect. The article informs about the education system of Yemen, the challenges of the MENA-region, using the example of Yemen, difficulties of girls\u27 education and the Basic Education Strategy as a trace to reach the Dakar goals. Feeding and Feedback in nearby AGN from Integral Field Spectroscopy
I report results of recent integral field spectroscopy of the inner few
hundred parsecs (pc) around nearby Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) at a sampling
of a few pc, obtained with the Gemini Telescopes. In the lowest activity AGNs,
it is possible to observe inflows in ionized gas along nuclear spirals and
filaments. In more luminous AGN inflows have been observed also in hot
molecular gas (H_2) emission in the near-IR. In most cases the H_2 kinematics
is dominated by circular rotation in the plane around the nucleus, tracing the
AGN feeding. The ionized gas, on the other hand, traces the AGN feedback. Its
kinematics shows two components: (1) one originating in the plane, and
dominated by circular rotation; (2) another outflowing along the Narrow-Line
Region (NLR) whose flux distribution and kinematics frequently correlate with
structures seen in radio maps. Mass outflow rates along the NLR range from
10^-2 to 1 M_sun yr^-1, corresponding to 10-100 times the accretion rate to the
AGN, indicating that most of the NLR gas mass has been entrained from the
galaxy plane. The average kinetic power of the NLR outflows is ~10^-4 times the
bolometric luminosity.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, to appear in the proceedings of the conference

Prediction and reconstruction of on-orbit acceleration
As the number of acceleration sensitive experiments to be carried on each Shuttle or Space Station mission increases, the requirement for either low-g environment or for accelerometry at each experiment location also increases. Preflight planning of such experiments in the past has not always included detailed analyses of the acceleration environment at the experiment location that had a serious impact on the experiment. Careful modeling of the mission activities and their effect on the experiment in many cases would have been beneficial to these experiments. In some cases, the experiment was not comprised, but insufficient instrumentation was available onboard to directly measure accelerations at the experiment location. The type of preflight modeling available to assist in experiment design and mission integration is described, as well as the use of that tool postflight to enhance flight data when sensors are not ideally suited to experiment analysis. Examples of recent shuttle flight experiments are presented
