A medieval "enigma": About the ecclesiastical trajectory of the Archbishop of Braga and "Antipope" Gregory VIII, Maurice "Bourdin" (11th-12th centuries)

Longo e diversificado foi o percurso eclesiástico e político do arcebispo bracarense e "antipapa" Maurício "Burdino". Dentro do complexo contexto da afirmação da Igreja romana face aos poderes da Europa Medieval, bem como da reorganização da Igreja hispânica, a experiência de Maurício representa tum caso paradigmático. O estudo da sua ação permite-nos refletir acerca dos principais problemas da instituição eclesiástica e sobre as transformações da sociedade europeia, entre finais do século XI e as primeiras décadas do século XII. Neste artigo analisaremos dois aspetos específicos: primeiramente, a trajetória de Maurício à frente da arquidiocese de Braga, a partir de 1109 - privilegiando o seu relacionamento com os demais poderes eclesiásticos peninsulares e com a cúria pontifícia -, e, num segundo momento, as causas da sua "inesperada" eleição como "antipapa" Gregório VIII, pelo imperador Henrique V, em 1118, em oposição aos pontífices romanos Gelásio II e Calisto II.The ecclesiastical and political trajectory of the archbishop of Braga and "antipope" Maurice "Bourdin" had been long and diversified. In the complex context of both the Roman Church's affirmation among the powers of Medieval Europe and the reorganization of the Hispanic Church, Maurice's experience represents a paradigmatic case. The study of his career allows us to reflect on the main problems related to the ecclesiastical institutions and the transformations of European society between the end of the 11th century and the first decades of the 12th century. In this article, we will analyse two specific aspects. First, we will study Maurice's trajectory as bishop of Coimbra and archbishop of Braga from 1099 onwards and his relations with the Iberian ecclesiastical powers and the Roman Curia. Second, we will analyse the causes of his "unexpected" 1118-election as "antipope" Gregory VIII, supported by Emperor Henry V, in opposition to the Roman pontiffs Gelasius II and Calixtus II

CERIF – Is the standard helping to improve CRIS?

Governments and organizations are creating Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) to follow the growth of the amount of research data, providing tools to collect, preserve and disseminate that data. At the same time, we are facing the appearance of standards designed to regulate CRIS development. Common European Research Information Format (CERIF) is a standard for managing and exchanging research data. There are several types of CRIS – institutional, regional, national and international. In this work we have just considered the national and international types of CRIS worldwide. Only seven of them were CERIF compliant. The aim of this study is to conclude if the use of CERIF is increasing the number of features in CRIS and how deep CERIF-compliant CRIS are adopting CERIF. Applying all the criteria considered in our methodology, only ten CRIS were analyzed, four of which are CERIF-compliant. CERIF tends to increase similarities between CRIS, in terms of its features and its data models. However, the need for customization of such systems leads to various implementations of the standard, creating an opposite effect of the one referred before. CRIS non CERIF compliant have as central focus the researchers. The CERIF takes CRIS to focus also on projects and institutions of the research domain. With this exception, the CERIF doesn’t show an increase of the number of features. We also consider the use of Dublin Core to increase interoperability between CRIS

Segurança do doente crítico: transição de cuidados, na passagem de turno de enfermagem

Os momentos de transição de cuidados de saúde ocorrem numa base diária em todas as instituições prestadoras de cuidados de saúde, sendo responsáveis por uma parte significativa do tempo de trabalho dos profissionais de saúde, momentos e processos por vezes negligenciados e subvalorizados, apesar de serem considerados críticos para a segurança do doente. Pretende-se, com o presente relatório, detalhar as etapas de uma intervenção cujo objetivo primário foi introduzir uma abordagem semiestruturada nos momentos de passagem de turno numa Unidade de Cuidados Intensivos, avaliar a conformidade do seu uso, através da observação, e a perceção da equipa da Enfermagem sobre os ganhos decorrentes desta abordagem. Improving the Machining Process of the Metalwork Industry by Upgrading Operative Sequences, Standard Manufacturing Times and Production Procedure Changes

Manufacturing industries are currently experiencing important changes towards digitization and autonomous production control, which is known as Industry 4.0. However, the profitability of some companies, namely Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and of some industrial sectors does not allow for great investments, meaning that is necessary to undertake simple changes that potentially can lead to significant gains. This is the case for the metalwork company under study, where wastes related to the large parts movement and non-conformities detected before and after the parts delivered to the customers have been identified. The elimination of these wastes can contribute to a significant increase in the profitability of the company. The use and integration of several Lean tools made it possible to achieve this goal for this company. Amongst other improvements on productivity and waste reducing, a 59% reduction in the time required to move parts of up to 1000 kg, a reduction of 2.04% on the external non-conformities (i.e. on non-conformities detected outside the company) and 3.99% on the internal non-conformities, was achieved.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

ERGONOMIC ANALYSIS OF PRUNING TREES IN CONFLICT WITH POWER LINES

Ergonomic analysis of pruning trees in conflict with power lines. Pruning trees in conflict with power lines is associated with several ergonomic risks due to postural issues and exposure to environmental conditions, such as noise and vibration in work activities. Additionally, there are life-threatening risks from falls or contact with power lines. The objective of this work was to apply the Ergonomic Workplace Analysis (EWA) method and assess the exposure of workers involved in pruning of trees conflicting with power lines to noise and vibration. The survey was conducted considering outsourced employees that provide services to an electric utility company in the state of Bahia, Brazil. The results obtained through EWA showed a regular risk rate, with concerning aspects, such as verbal communication (dialogue among workers regarding technical/operational issues), irregular posture of back, arms, and shoulders, high attention demand, and activity limitations. Quantitative analysis showed 84.9 dB (A-weighted) for noise and 2.440 m s-2 for vibration, both close to the action level. The pole saw vibration reached 3.703 m s-2, exceeding the tolerance limit. The importance of breaks, at-work exercises, and training is emphasized as ergonomic measures. A rotation system should be implemented in tree pruning activities to reduce exposure to vibration
