Preferred breast cancer message sources and frames amongst western Kenyan women
This descriptive study set out to verify the Kenyan women’s knowledge of the various risk factors associated with breast cancer, their preferred framing of the breast cancer messages and their preferred channels for receiving those messages. Three hundred and ninety-three (393) women aged 20-64 years from the Kisumu County of Western Kenya were interviewed using a semi-structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics. Findings revealed that (a) information deficiencies in relation to breast cancer is a factor that needs to be addressed, (b) gain, loss and mixed frames are used and (c) the most preferred sources of information were radio and health facility personnel and, to a low extent the internet and television. The study recommends that it is prudent for the women to voluntarily seek the right information for them to make informed decisions regarding preventive breast cancer measures. Further, cancer risk communicators need to develop frames that revolve around symptoms and risk factors, and use the most preferred channels side by side to reinforce strengths associated with each. Internet and television among the rural women are of low use, calling for the collaborated efforts amongst development partners including the women to boost the level of their usage. Keywords: framing messages, communication channels, breast cancer screening measure
Social media adoption and employability performance of Universities
This paper is part of series of papers of ongoing research proposing social media advancement in value creation in higher education institutions with a focus on the employability of students as well as employability performance of the Higher Education Institutions. The main purpose of the study was to explore the state of art practices concerning social media adoption in higher education and employability performance of universities. The study used a traditional literature review approach to conduct the exploratory study, where the literal sources selected were representative of the elements under investigation. The study established that social media is a tool that has been used in Higher Education Institutions to build the employability attributes of students. The social media adoption practices were categorized under three themes, that is, student-instructor level, faculty level, and holistic level practices. It was further identified that social media cannot be utilized solely owing to its constraining features. The study provides an argument for the advancement of social media through integration with more advanced strategic tools. The implications of these findings as well as directions of future studies are also mentioned
This project aims to make a diagnosis of psychosocial risks in the "Tribunal
Judicial da Comarca do Porto". The goal is to identify the psychosocial risks that expose
workers to serious health and organizational consequences. It is also important to
identify factors that protect against psychosocial risks.
The study involved 131 workers (126 questionnaires and 5 interviews). To
diagnosis the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire was used to evaluate risk and
protection factors through 8 subscales. To complement the diagnosis 5 workers were
interviewed.
The results were analyzed with technique of content analysis for the interviews
and through the statistical relationships for the COPSOQ-II questionnaire. Thus, the
data obtained identified different risks factors with high values namely emotional and
quantitative demands and career stagnation. It was also possible identify protective
factors that could be a starting point for further studies and intervention
The present research aimed to study comparatively and evaluate the effects of season on some semen characteristics and reproductive performance of rabbits of two commercial genotypes. In a private rabbit farm 44 males were used: 22 of Valenciano (VT) and 22 of Gigante Espanol (GE). The ejaculates were collected from July 2012 until May 2013.
The mean values observed for the main semen parameters were 0,7mL for ejaculate volume, 4,7 for massal motility (scale 0-5), 0,2 for the degree of agglutination (scale 0-3), 91 and 86%, respectively for the percentages of live and normal spermatozoids, 120 x 106 spermatozoids/mL for sperm concentration and 83 x 106 spermatozoids/mL for the total number of sperm. The season influenced the live and normal spermatozoids, with a tendency, in some cases statistically significant for poor results during summer, when compared to other seasons. The semen of GE males presented higher sperm concentration and total number of sperm, than semen from VT males in all seasons. Globally, the season effect was not very marked for the period and study conditions
estágio realizado no ano letivo 2017/2018 no Museu Nacional do Azulejo.
Consumer Behavior and Choice of Housing in Kenya: A Case of Selected Residential Rental Estates in Nairobi City County
Consumer decisions are those decisions consumers make in the market place transactions and activities. This may vary depending on their level of buying decision behavior as well as level of product involvement. Hand in hand is consumer behavior which is identified with a consumer during the consideration, purchase and usage of a product. Available and affordable housing for every Kenyan across all age and income groups is one of the aspects of development in reference to the Kenya Vision 2030. However with the recent trend of continuous rural to urban migration/ urbanization, housing needs still remain a thorning issue more so in urban and town areas as portrayed by population census reports 1989. 1999, 2009. Rental consumers in urban/town areas of Kenya, particularly middle to low income earners vary in their choice of formal housing depending on consumer behavior set of factors such as consumer tastes, preference, search activities and evaluation of product information on housing decisions. This therefore formed the basis of the study of relationship between consumer behavior and choice of housing in Kenya. As insight from this study would enable developers in the housing market particularly the government and marketers incorporate consumer trends as they seek provision of decent housing to its population. The study used descriptive research design and targeted middle to lower income rental consumers in Nairobi North, Nairobi East and West lands as population under study. The study used partly stratified random sampling and partly purposive sampling technique in choosing respondents for primary data collection. The findings were then analyzed by the use of Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) software to obtain the descriptive and inferential statistics. From the findings, the study established that consumer tastes and preferences strongly influenced choice of rental housing, whereas search activities and evaluation of product information were weak influencers of choice of rental housing. The findings were presented by tables
Do Religious Commitments, General Commitments, and Religious Affirmations Mitigate the Negative Effects of Exposure to Thin Ideals?
Being committed to God should foster positive body image in women because of the belief of God’s unconditional love (religious commitment) and/or because one is pursuing an important goal (commitment in general). Might reading Biblicallyaffirming statements increase feeling loved? We tested the relationships among religious commitment, general commitment, and satisfaction in 111 women at a religious-affiliated college. We tested whether religious-affirming statements buffered against exposure to thin models for everyone, or for women with strong religious commitment. Women completed the commitment scales and baseline body measures (body esteem, body dissatisfaction, drive for thinness, dieting). They were matched and randomly assigned to read one set of affirming statements, viewed pictures of thin women, and completed body measures again. Reading religious affirmations increased feeling loved and accepted. General commitment was positively related to body esteem, body satisfaction, and healthy dieting. Religious commitment was positively related to body esteem and satisfaction. Religious commitment buffered against exposure to ultra-thin models: Women who were strongly (but not weakly) religiously committed felt happier with their body appearance and weight

Robotic telecytology for remote cytologic evaluation without an on-site cytotechnologist or cytopathologist: an active quality assessment and experience of over 400 cases
Background: The first satellite center to offer interventional radiology procedures at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center opened in October 2014. Two of the procedures offered, fine needle aspirations and core biopsies, required a rapid on-site cytologic evaluation of smears and biopsy touch imprints for cellular content and adequacy. The volume and frequency of such evaluations did not justify hiring on-site cytotechnologists, and therefore, a dynamic robotic telecytology (TC) solution was created. In this article, we provide data on our experience with this active implementation. Sakura VisionTek was selected as our robotic TC solution. Methods: A retrospective analysis of all TC evaluations from this satellite site was performed. Information was collected on demographics, lesion location, imaging modality; a comparison of TC-assisted adequacy with final adequacy was also conducted. Results: An analysis of 439 cases was performed over a period of 23 months with perfect correlation in 92.7% (407/439) of the cases. An adequacy upgrade (inadequate specimen becomes adequate) in 6.6% (29/439) of the cases. An adequacy downgrade (adequate specimen becomes inadequate), is near zero at 0.7% (3/439) of the cases. Conclusions: Dynamic robotic TC is effective for immediate evaluations performed without on-site cytotechnology staff. The overall intent of this article is to present data and concordance rates as outcome metrics. Thus far, such outcome metrics have exceeded our expectations. Our TC implementation shows high, perfect concordance. Adequacy upgrades are minor but more relevant and impressive is a near zero adequacy downgrade. Our full implementation has been so successful that plans are in place for configurations at future satellite sites
