This case report describes the endodontic treatment of an idiopathic perforated internal root resorption. A 24-year-old male Malay patient presented with internal root resorption of two of his anterior teeth. The medical history was non-contributory and he had no history of traumatic injury or orthodontic treatment. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) determined the nature, location and severity of the resorptive lesion. Non-surgical root canal treatment of tooth #22 and combined non-surgical and surgical approach for tooth #11 were carried out using mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) as the filling material. The clinical and radiographic examination three years after completion of treatment revealed evidences of periapical healing. The appropriate diagnosis and the treatment of internal root resorption allowed good healing of these lesions and maintained the tooth in function for as long as possible. Keywords: Cone-Beam Computed Tomography; Idiopathic; Internal Root Resorption; Mineral Trioxide Aggregat

Material resistance to fracture or fracture toughness can be determined from experimental testing. The experimental condition in toughness measurement should relevant to the service application. Where with same fracture toughness at high loading rate is suitable to high strain application while low loading rate is useful at low strain application. The experimental technique has a major influence on design for crack growth that is unstable, fatigue and time dependent in steel that are homogeneous. The testing is according to BS 5762 : 1979 on ASTM 516 Grade 70, which is commonly used in pressure vessel structure. The test is done at room temperature, constant displacement 12 mm/s and transition load. The result is analysed for fracture toughness value determination. The result for K1C from CTOD testing is found to be invalid. Hence J integral method should be done to determined the K1C, according to the ASTM standards E813-81, " J1C , A Measure of Fracture Toughness". J1C was found 115 N/mm1'2. This value is slightly higher for such materials. This might due to the blunting ahead the notch and testing is done without precracking

Globalization of market present more challenges and it requires firms to respond by adopting various strategies. One of the strategies is through involvement in international strategic alliances. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of global market environment factors, which consists of two dimensions namely global market opportunities and global market threats on the degree of cooperation of international strategic alliances.A quantitative study with data collected through survey questionnaire was conducted and the sample of the study consisted of 214 service based companies in Yemen. The findings show a significant positive relationship between the global market opportunities factor and the degree of cooperation of international strategic alliances. In contrast, there is no significant relationship observed between the global market threats and the degree of cooperation. Therefore, firms observing new market opportunities resulting from globalization tend to increase the degree of cooperation of their strategic alliances

Islamic Prayer, Spirituality and Productivity: An Exploratory Conceptual Analysis

    Get PDF
Prayer plays a noteworthy role in Muslims daily lives. Quran and Sunnah testify that regular prayers can boost one’s health, can remove the level of stress, and may make one more productive and vigour. Such findings also noticed by medical and psychological experts, and likewise many contemporary research have shown wide-ranging outcomes in terms of improved wellbeing when prayer is done with sincere devotion. Nevertheless what is lacking is that the policy makers in the Islamic world need to initiate whether there exist any linkages between prayer and productivity, which needs to be appreciated more by them, as well as by Islamic economists and social scientists, Islamic business professionals and Islamic jurists, and then through a concerted effort and dynamic fact finding mission and verification to ascertain the Qur’anic beliefs in our daily lives. This studies using descriptive analysis to explain the linkage between the Islamic prayer and productivityDOI: 10.15408/aiq.v8i2.316

    Get PDF
Acanthamoeba keratitis is a potentially blinding ocular disease that is often misdiagnosed and remains difficult to treat. If not diagnosed early, it can be devastating to vision. Acanthamoeba keratitis may be associated with previous ocular trauma but the majority of cases in the developed world are associated to contact lens wear. We present two cases of contact lens related Acanthamoeba keratitis whose diagnosis were missed at initial presentation. The history, clinical findings and treatment instituted are briefly discussed here. In the light of prevention of the disease, lessons learnt from these cases especially on the role of poor hygienic practice during of contact lens wear in precipitating the disease, are highlighted

Empirical evaluation of the fault detection effectiveness and test effort efficiency of the automated AOP testing approaches.

Testing process is a time-consuming, expensive, and labor-intensive activity in any software setting including aspect-oriented programming (AOP). To reduce the testing costs, human effort, and to achieve the improvements in both quality and productivity of AOP, it is desirable to automate testing of aspect-oriented programs as much as possible. In recent past years, a lot of research effort has been devoted to testing aspect-oriented programs but less effort has been dedicated to the automated AOP testing. This denotes that the current research on automated AOP testing is not sufficient and is still in a stage of infancy. In order to advance the state of the research in this area and to provide testers of AOP-based projects with a comparison basis, a detailed evaluation of the current automated AOP testing approaches in a thorough and experimental manner is required. Thus, the objective of this paper is to provide such evaluation of the current approaches. In this paper, we carry out an empirical study based on mutation analysis to examine four (namely Wrasp, Aspectra, Raspect, and EAT) existing automated AOP testing approaches, particularly their underlying test input generation and selection strategies, with regard to fault detection effectiveness. In addition, the approaches are compared in terms of required effort in detecting faults as part of efficiency evaluation. The experimental results and comparison provided insights into the effectiveness and efficiency of automated AOP testing with their respective strengths and weaknesses. Results showed that EAT is more effective than the other automated AOP testing approaches but not significant for all approaches. EAT was found to be significantly better than Wrasp at 95% confidence level (i.e. p<0.05), but not significantly better than Aspectra or Raspect. Concerning the test effort efficiency, Wrasp was significantly (p<0.05) efficient with requiring the lowest amount of test effort compared to the other approaches. Whereas, EAT showed to be not very efficient by recording the highest amount of test effort. This implies that EAT can currently be the most effective automated AOP testing approach but perhaps less efficient. More generally, search-based testing (as underlying strategy of EAT approach) might achieve better effectiveness but at the cost of greater test effort compared to random testing (as underlying strategy of other approaches)

Appraisal of urban trees value using Thyer method

    Get PDF
Urban tree-planting provides not only environmental benefits, but it also has significant value both socially and economically. Unfortunately, the economic benefits of urban trees are difficult to estimate due to the absence of a well-defined market. A range of methods have been developed to estimate the economic value of urban trees. Hence, this study attempted to appraise the value of urban trees in Kuala Lumpur using the Thyer method. Five hundred and three trees were selected upon consultation with Kuala Lumpur City Hall, and this was followed by field observations, which were carried out with the aim to document tree species, age, circumference, height, crown diameter and tree characteristics. Results indicated that Pterocarpus indicus has the highest value, with an estimated mean tree value of RM972,660. Meanwhile, the mean value per tree was estimated at RM435,851. However, the value of urban trees differs with respect to the physical and qualitative characteristics of the tree

In Malaysia, halalan tayyiban has been conceptually practiced through the implementation of halal standards and enforcement of halal certification to ensure all Muslim would excess halal food. However, there is Muslim community which put the high standards of halalan tayyiban by designing the guidelines of manufacturing practice namely Islamic Manufacturing Practice (IMP). They emphasizes that the term tayyiban must be analyzed from tasawwuf dimension which should not confined from fiqh dimension alone because all food taken will transform to flesh and blood of the Muslim. Therefore, any kind of food which is considered as halalan tayyiban must be clean and pure both physically and spiritually. This paper aims to discover the guidelines of IMP as well as to shed lights the interpretation of halalan tayyiban by Muslim scholars. As a qualitative research, it employs the content analysis from fiqh literatures concerning the principles of Islamic jurisprudence towards halal and haram in Islam. The result indicates that halalan tayyiban must be referred to the formative rules over the substances with the guidance of texts and maslahah-mafsadah outlook. In the context of halal industry, the guidelines of IMP are designed based on Islamic teaching but not practically realistic for mass production
