Standard Model CP violation in Polarised b->d l^+ l^-
In the standard model, we study CP violating rate asymmetries in the decay
b->d l^+ l^- when one of the leptons is polarised. We find an asymmetry of (5
-- 15)% in the polarised decay spectrum which is comparable to known results
for the unpolarised case. In the kinematic region separating the rho-omega and
resonances, which is also theoretically cleanest, the polarised
contribution to the asymmetry is larger than the unpolarised results. In order
to observe a 3 sigma signal for direct CP violation in the polarised spectrum,
assuming 100% efficiency, about 10^10 pairs are required at a B
factory. Our results indicate an asymmetric contribution from the individual
polarisation states to the unpolarised CP asymmetry. Taking advantage of this,
one can attribute any new physics to be most sensitive to a specific

Implications of the Top Quark Mass Measurement for the CKM Parameters, and CP Asymmetries
Motivated by the recent determination of the top quark mass by the CDF
collaboration, \mt =174 \pm 10 ^{+13}_{-12} GeV, we review and update the
constraints on the parameters of the quark flavour mixing matrix in
the standard model. In performing our fits, we use inputs from the measurements
of the following quantities: (i) \abseps, the CP-violating parameter in
decays, (ii) \delmd, the mass difference due to the \bdbdbar\ mixing, (iii)
the matrix elements \absvcb and \absvub, and (iv) -hadron lifetimes. We
find that the allowed region of the unitarity triangle is very large, mostly
due to theoretical uncertainties. (This emphasizes the importance of
measurements of CP-violating rate asymmetries in the system.) Nevertheless,
the present data do somewhat restrict the allowed values of the coupling
constant product and the renormalization-scale
invariant bag constant . With the updated CKM matrix we present the
currently-allowed range of the ratio , as well as
the standard model predictions for the \bsbsbar\ mixing parameter \xs and the
quantities , and , which characterize
the CP-asymmetries in -decays. The ALEPH collaboration has recently reported
a significant improvement on the lower limit on the \bs-\bsb mass
difference, (95\% C.L.). This has interesting
consequences for the CKM parameters which are also worked out.

Exclusive Radiative B-Decays in the Light-Cone QCD Sum Rule Approach
We carry out a detailed study of exclusive radiative rare -decays in the
framework of the QCD sum rules on the light cone, which combines the
traditional QCD sum rule technique with the description of final state vector
mesons in terms of the light-cone wave functions of increasing twist. The
decays considered are: and the corresponding decays of the mesons, and . Based on our estimate of the transition
form factor F_1^{B \to K^*\pg}(0) =0.32\pm0.05, we find for the branching
ratio , which is in
agreement with the observed value measured by the CLEO collaboration. We
present detailed estimates for the ratios of the radiative decay form factors,
which are then used to predict the rates for the exclusive radiative B-decays
listed above. This in principle allows the extraction of the CKM matrix element
from the penguin-dominated CKM-suppressed radiative decays when they
are measured. We give a detailed discussion of the dependence of the form
factors on the -quark mass and on the momentum transfer, as well as their

Efficacy of 'Gamadent' toothpaste on the healing of gingival tissues: a preliminary report
The aim of this randomised, parallel, double-blind study, in which 28 adult patients diagnosed with chronic gingivitis or early stages of chronic periodontitis were recruited, was to evaluate the efficacy of 'Gamadent' toothpaste compared to a placebo toothpaste. 'Gamadent' toothpaste has all the basic constituents of a toothpaste with the addition of a sea cucumber extract (SCE) of the species Stichopus sp. 1 to improve the healing potential of tissues. The placebo has the same basic constituents minus the extract. Out of the 28 patients, 14 were placed in the test group who used the 'Gamadent' toothpaste, and 14 patients were placed in the control group (2 control subjects defaulted and were excluded), who brushed using the placebo toothpaste. The longitudinal study was carried out over a period of 3 months with assessments made at baseline, 1 month, 2 months and 3 months after conventional therapy at the baseline visit. The clinical parameters used during the trial were Plaque Index (PI), Gingival Index (GI), Papilla Bleeding Index (PBI) and Probing Pocket Depth (PPD). A predetermined number of sites on a molar, premolar, canine and an incisor were examined and evaluated in each quadrant. After the baseline assessment, the patients had full mouth scaling and debridement as well as oral hygiene instructions. Patients were instructed to brush their teeth twice a day with the toothbrush provided (Oral-B plus, size 35) and toothpaste (test or control), using the Bass technique. At the 1-month assessment, there were significant mean reductions to baseline mean values in PI (P < 0.005) and GI (P < 0.001) in the test group as compared to the control group. At the end of the 2-month interval, significant reductions were observed in PI, PBI and PPD (P < 0.001). By the end of 3 months, there were significant differences in the mean reduction of all the parameters i.e. PI, PBI, GI and PPD (P < 0.001), between the test and control sites. In conclusion, 'Gamadent' toothpaste provided noteworthy benefits, producing statistically significant improvement in all clinical parameters compared to the placebo during the healing phase after conventional initial therapy
Light Lambda-Lambda Hypernuclei and the Onset of Stability for Lambda-Xi Hypernuclei
New Faddeev-Yakubovsky calculations for light Lambda-Lambda hypernuclei are
presented in order to assess the self consistency of the Lambda-Lambda
hypernuclear binding-energy world data and the implied strength of the
Lambda-Lambda interaction, in the wake of recent experimental reports on
Lambda-Lambda-4H and Lambda-Lambda-6He. Using Gaussian soft-core simulations of
Nijmegen one-boson-exchange model interactions, the Nijmegen soft-core model
NSC97 simulations are found close to reproducing the recently reported binding
energy of Lambda-Lambda-6He, but not those of other species. For stranger
systems, Faddeev calculations of light Lambda-Xi hypernuclei, using a
simulation of the strongly attractive Lambda-Xi interactions due to the same
model, suggest that Lambda-Xi-6He marks the onset of nuclear stability for Xi

6D Dyonic String With Active Hyperscalars
We derive the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a
Killing spinor in N=(1,0) gauge supergravity in six dimensions coupled to a
single tensor multiplet, vector multiplets and hypermultiplets. These are shown
to imply most of the field equations and the remaining ones are determined. In
this framework, we find a novel 1/8 supersymmetric dyonic string solution with
nonvanishing hypermultiplet scalars. The activated scalars parametrize a 4
dimensional submanifold of a quaternionic hyperbolic ball. We employ an
identity map between this submanifold and the internal space transverse to the
string worldsheet. The internal space forms a 4 dimensional analog of the
Gell-Mann-Zwiebach tear-drop which is noncompact with finite volume. While the
electric charge carried by the dyonic string is arbitrary, the magnetic charge
is fixed in Planckian units, and hence necessarily non-vanishing. The source
term needed to balance a delta function type singularity at the origin is
determined. The solution is also shown to have 1/4 supersymmetric AdS_3 x S^3

Judicial actors’ understanding of the mental health impacts of intimate partner violence: a scoping review
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a global public health issue that has grave physical and mental health consequences for millions of women. The judicial system plays a critical role in responding to IPV principally through the criminal justice system, family law, and/or child welfare jurisdictions. However, victims/survivors who interact with the legal system report negative experiences. An under-researched area of scholarship is the degree to which judicial actors understand the mental health impacts of IPV on victims/survivors and how they apply that knowledge in practice. This scoping review aimed to identify and synthesize existing scholarship on judicial actors’ understanding of the mental health impacts of IPV on women survivors. We searched 10 databases (Medline, Scopus, PubMed, PsycINFO, EMBASE, Westlaw, HeinOnline, the Cochrane Library, and the Joanna Briggs Library databases) for studies published between 2000 and 2023. A total of 27 studies were included in the review. We identified five main themes, including: awareness of survivors’ experiences, gap in judicial actors’ knowledge, understanding of perpetrator tactics and risk factors, disclosing mental health problems, training, and guidance. The review highlights significant gaps in judicial actors’ understanding of this issue and recommends strategies to increase the awareness and understanding of IPV among judicial actors. The findings can be used to justify future research to better understand the training and development needs of judicial actors to improve their level of awareness of the dynamics and impact of IPV and to make policy and practice recommendations to build the capacity of the judicial workforce

Model Independent Analysis of the Forward-Backward Asymmetry for the Decay
The sensitivity of the zero position of the forward backward asymmetry
for the exclusive
decay is examined by using most general non-standard 4-fermion interactions.
Our analysis shows that the zero position of the forward backward asymmetry is
very sensitive to the sign and size of the Wilson coefficients corresponding to
the new vector type interactions, which are the counter partners of the usual
Standard Model operators but have opposite chirality. In addition to these, the
other significant effect comes from the interference of Scalar-Pseudoscalar and
Tensor type operators. These results will not only enhance our theoretical
understanding about the axial vector mesons but will also serve as a good tool

Water intake, faecal output and intestinal motility in horses moved from pasture to a stabled management regime with controlled exercise
Reasons for performing study: A change in management from pasture to stabling is a risk factor for equine colic.
Objectives: To investigate the effect of a management change from pasture with no controlled exercise to stabling with light exercise on aspects of gastrointestinal function related to large colon impaction. The hypothesis was that drinking water intake, faecal output, faecal water content and large intestinal motility would be altered by a transition from a pastured to a stabled regime.
Study design: Within-subject management intervention trial involving changes in feeding and exercise using noninvasive techniques.
Methods: Seven normal horses were evaluated in a within-subjects study design. Horses were monitored while at pasture 24 h/day, and for 14 days following a transition to a stabling regime with light controlled exercise. Drinking water intake, faecal output and faecal dry matter were measured. Motility of the caecum, sternal flexure and left colon (contractions/min) were measured twice daily by transcutaneous ultrasound. Mean values were pooled for the pastured regime and used as a reference for comparison with stabled data (Days 1–14 post stabling) for multilevel statistical analysis.
Results: Drinking water intake was significantly increased (mean ± s.d. pasture 2.4 ± 1.8 vs. stabled 6.4 ± 0.6 l/100 kg bwt/day), total faecal output was significantly decreased (pasture 4.62 ± 1.69 vs. stabled 1.81 ± 0.5 kg/100 kg bwt/day) and faecal dry matter content was significantly increased (pasture 18.7 ± 2.28 vs. stabled 27.2 ± 1.93% DM/day) on all days post stabling compared with measurements taken at pasture (P<0.05). Motility was significantly decreased in all regions of the large colon collectively on Day 2 post stabling (-0.76 contractions/min), and in the left colon only on Day 4 (-0.62 contractions/min; P<0.05).
Conclusions: There were significant changes in large intestinal motility patterns and parameters relating to gastrointestinal water balance during a transition from pasture to stabled management, particularly during the first 5 days
