[์˜๋ฌธ] Parity progression ratio, that indicates level of birth occurrence between two parities for married women of a same birth cohort, can be an appropriate index for measuring a mational level of birth rate from stock type of fertility data. The purpose of this study is to analyse the changes in parity progression ratios between fifteen-year of intercensal period, 1960 and 1975 census. In both censuses, the statistical information on the number of women and total number of ever completed live births by parity were collected. These data were on the basis of measuring the parity progression ratios for the year of 1960 and 1975. The parity progression ratio by parity for each birth cohort from the 1960 census showed the levels of birth occurrence before the Korean National Family Planning Programme was initiated. On the other hand, the corresponding levels from the 1975 census was the level of resulted from the women who have been exposed to the Korean National Family Planning Programme for thirteen-year period. The two levels were compared between the two intercensal period for the whole country and for Seoul city respectively. Major findings from the comparisons were as follows: 1) IN 1975, the national level of parity progression ratio for the women of aged 45 to 49, who were on the agd group of completing live births, was a^^0 =0.94978, a^^2 =0.92662, a^^3 =0.89304, a^^4 =0.82017, a^^5 =0.69900, a^^6 =0.58645, a^^7 =0.477232, a^^8 =0.31771. 2) In 1975, the level of parity progression ratio in Seoul city for the women of the aged 45 to 49 was, a^^0 =0.96762, a^^1 =0.93402, a^^2 =0.88191, a^^3 =0.81461, a^^4 =0.69505, a^^5 =0.54611, a^^6 =0.50142, a^^7 =0.40057, a^^8 =0.26346. 3) The national level of parity progression ratio in 1975 for the women aged 45 to 49 was lower at each parity than that of ratio in 1960. 4) The mean numbers of completed births per woman in according to the parity progression ratios were 5.42 births in 1960, and 4.97 births in 1975, that showed the mean number of births in 1975 was smaller than that of 1960 by 8.3 percent.restrictio
