    Academic Motivation and Academic Self-efficacy of Prospective Teachers

    The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between academic self-efficacy perception of prospective teachers and their academic motivation levels. The study was conducted on 322 prospective teachers (226 female and 96 male) who were in 3rd and 4th grades at Faculty of Education in Sakarya University during Spring term of 2017-2018 academic year. Data was collected through “Academic Motivation Scale” developed by Vallerand et al. (1992) and adapted into Turkish by Karagüven (2012) and “Self-perception of Candidate Teachers on Teaching Proficiency Scale” developed by Çakır, Erkuş, and Kılıç (2004). SPSS 23 package program was used to analyze the data; percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Tukey HSD and Pearson Correlation test were used in the data analysis. The results of analyses indicated that academic self-efficacy perception levels of the prospective teachers were at desired level. However, their academic motivation levels were at middle level. The result of the analysis revealed that the prospective teachers who were female and taught at 4th grade had higher academic self-efficacy score whereas significant difference was not found in academic motivation levels in terms of gender and grade. On the other hand, there was a significant difference in both academic self-efficacy perception of the prospective teacher and their academic motivation levels in terms of department variables. Prospective teachers enrolled at the department of Preschool and Science Education had higher academic self-efficacy perception than those enrolled at the department of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies, English, Special Education, Social Science and Mathematics. Prospective teachers enrolled at the department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance and Science Education had higher academic motivation levels than English prospective teachers. Further, significant positive correlations were observed between academic motivation and academic self-efficacy of prospective teachers

    Evaluation of 86 Patients Whom Death While Being Followed up with Pre-Diagnosis of Covid-19

    The Coronavirus-19 pandemic continues at full speed, and the number of patients who die from Covıd-19 is increasing. It was aimed to evaluate the demographic information and laboratory findings of 86 patients who died while being followed up in our hospital with a pre-diagnosis of Covıd-19. Identifying these characteristics of deceased patients will be essential to guide clinicians in identifying critically ill patients. Data on demographic information, comorbidities, time from hospitalization to death, molecular test results, thorax CT findings, biochemical findings, culture, antibiotic susceptibility, and the given treatments of the cases were collected from the electronic system Kastamonu Training and Research Hospital. While the RT-PCR test of 21 of the cases was positive, in 9 of the cases, control PCR tests were negative after a while. The CT results of 18 of the 21 initially RT-PCR positive cases were compatible with Covid-19, and the CT result of 3 could not be reached. When the blood test results of the cases were examined, neutrophil increase, white blood cell increase, lymphocyte reduction, and inflammatory markers increase were determined. A total of 43 bacterial growths were found in 21 cases. It has been observed that deaths in patients who were followed up with the pre-diagnosis of Covıd-19 generally occur in older people, males, and those with underlying diseases. It was thought that the cause of death could be underlying diseases, pathologies caused by inflammation, and secondary bacterial infections in addition to viral infection. Clinicians should be more careful about elderly patients, patients with secondary bacterial infections, or patients with neutrophilia, lymphopenia

    Amaç: Bu çalışmada, Denizli İli Merkez İlköğretim Okullarında öğrenim gören 6?11 yaş grubundaki çocukların vücut kitle indeksleri üzerinde, hane halkı geliri ve anne istihdamı değişkenlerinin, bir etkisinin olup olmadığı araştırılmaktadır. Gereç ve yöntem: Bu araştırmada Denizli İli Merkez İlköğretim Okullarından 18 farklı İlköğretim okulunda öğrenim gören 6?11 yaş grubundaki 253 çocuğun anne babasına anket uygulaması yapılmıştır. Hanehalkı geliri bilgileri anne emek arzı bilgileri ve çocuğun okul ile beslenme alışkanlıkları üzerine olan bilgiler veri olarak toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Hanehalkı geliri çocuğun vücut kitle indeksi üzerine düşük gelirli gruplarda negatif yüksek gelirli gruplarda pozitif bulunmuştur. Ayrıca annenin emek arzı da çocuğun vücut kitle indeksi ile pozitif ilişkilidir. Sonuç: Bu araştırmada ekonomik değişkenlerden Hanehalkı geliri ve annenin emek arzı değişkenlerinin çocukluk dönemi obezitesi üzerine etkileri tahmin edilmiş ve iki değişkeninde çocuğun VKİ'si üzerine etkili olduğu gözlenmiştir. Fakat çocukluk dönemi obezitesi üzerine olan annenin emek arzı ve okul harçlıkları değişkenlerinin etkisi gözlenmemiştir.Aim: In this Project, it is investigated that whether variants of household income and maternal employment have the effect on body mass index of children who are received education in central primary schools of Denizli city and whose age group is between 611 Material and Procedure: In this Project? a questionnaire is given to parents of 253 children who are received education in 18 different central primary schools and whose age group is 611. Household income data, maternal employment data and child?s school and nutrition habits data are collected. Results: It?s found that household income has a negative effect on body mass index for lowincome groups whereas a positive effect for highincome groups. Besides, maternal employment affects body mass index positively. Conclusion: In this Project, effect of economical variants of household income and maternal employment on childhood obesity are estimated and found that both two variants affect the child?s BMI. However, it is not observed that mother?s education and allowance variants affect childhood obesity

    Çocuk oyun alanları ve parkları, çocuk gelişiminin vazgeçilmez bir unsurunu oluşturmaktadır. Birey oluşumunun ilk evresi olan çocukluk yıllarının büyük bir kısmını kaplayan parklar ve donatılarının çocuklar üzerinde etkileri bulunmaktadır. Ancak her bireyin eşit olmadığı gibi her çocuk da eşit değildir. Bu durumda her iki çocuk potansiyelini de oyun alanlarında eşitleyebilmek için engelli çocuk parkları tasarlanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, İzmir İli ve İlçelerinde bulunan tüm çocukların ortak oyun alanı olan engelli çocuk parklarının ve donatı elemanlarının; engelli çocuklar tarafından kullanılabilirliği, işlevselliği, ulaşılabilirliği ile ergonomik ve antropometrik özelliklerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Buna göre, araştırma yapılan parklarda bulunan oyun grupları ve oyun donatıları, tanımı yapılan kavramlara göre incelenmiş ve uygunluk açısından değerlendirilmişlerdir. Araştırma sonucunda standart olarak tasarlanan bu parklarda yaşanan çeşitli sorunlar belirlenmiş olup, bu sorunların çözümüne yönelik yeni tasarım önerileri sunulmuştur. Ayrıca, bu parklarda yapılabilecek yeni düzeltmelere yer verilmiştir.Children's playgrounds and parks constitute an indispensable element of child development. The parks and their equipment, which cover most of the childhood years, which is the first stage of individual formation, have effects on children. However, not every individual is equal, and not every child is equal. In this case, disabled children's parks were designed to equalize both children's potentials in playgrounds. In this study it is aimed to determine the usability, functionality, accessibility, ergonomic and anthropometric characteristics of the children's playgrounds for the disabled and their equipment in which are the common playgrounds of all children in İzmir Province and its districts. Accordingly, the playgrounds and playground equipment in the researched parks were examined according to the defined concepts and evaluated in terms of suitability. As a result of the research, various problems experienced in these parks, which were designed as standard, were determined and new design proposals were presented for the solution of these problems. In addition, new corrections that can be made in these parks are included

    The effect of pilates exercises on physical fitness in high school students

    Bu araştırmada ‘pilates egzersizlerinin lise öğrencilerinde fiziksel uygunluğa etkisi’ incelenmiştir. Çalışmaya öğrenci yurdunda yatılı olarak kalan 13-17 yaşlarında sedanter yaşam süren öğrenciler dahil edilmiştir. Araştırma öncesi etik kurul, kurum izinleri ve gönüllü onam formu alınmıştır. Katılımcı öğrenciler rastgele yöntemle uygulama grubu (UG) 25 ve kontrol grubu (KG) 36 olmak üzere toplam 61 kadından oluşturulmuştur. Çalışmada UG ortalama yaş 14,76±1,32 yıl, boy 159,52±4,87 cm, vücut ağırlığı 56,43±12,62 kg; KG ortalama yaş 15,58±1,43 yıl, boy 160,97±4,46 cm, vücut ağırlığı 58,10±10,03 kg’dır. Araştırmada deneysel araştırma türlerinden ön test - son test modeli kullanılmıştır. Her iki grubun çalışma öncesi ve sonrası vücut kompozisyon ölçümleri, vücut yağ oranları (VYO), vücut kitle indeksleri (VKİ) ve bel-kalça oranları, esneklik, kas kuvveti, kas dayanıklılık ve postür analiz ölçümleri alınmıştır. Araştırma sürecinde UG’na 8 hafta boyunca haftada 2 gün, 1 saat mat pilates egzersizleri uygulatılırken KG günlük rutin yaşantısına devam etmiştir. Verilerin analizinde farklılığın belirlenmesi için tekrarlı ölçüm ANOVA testi kullanılmıştır. Anlamlılık düzeyi p0,05). UG bacak kuvveti, sırt kuvveti, mekik, şınav ölçümleri ve postür analizi değerlerinde KG’na göre anlamlı farklılık gözlenmiştir (p<0,01). UG’nun ön-son test ölçümlerinde bacak kuvveti, sırt kuvveti, mekik, şınav ve vücut postür analizi değerlerinde anlamlı farklılık gözlenmiştir (p<0,01). Esneklik ölçümünde anlamlı farklılık görülmese de (p=0,05) ortalama değerinin arttığı gözlenmiştir. Sonuç olarak pilates egzersizlerinin fiziksel uygunluk unsurlarından kuvvet, dayanıklık ve vücut postürü üzerinde etkili olduğu gözlenmiştir. Bu nedenle pilates egzersizlerinin bazı fiziksel uygunluk unsurları ve vücut postürünün gelişimi için kullanılmasını önermekteyiz.In this study, 'the effect of pilates exercises on physical fitness in high school students' was examined. Students aged 13-17 living in a dormitory and living a sedentary life were included in the study. Ethics committee, institutional permissions and voluntary consent forms were obtained before the study. Participating students were randomly selected from a total of 61 women, 25 in the exercise group (UG) and 36 in the control group (KG). In the study, mean age of UG was 14.76±1.32 years, height 159.52±4.87 cm, body weight 56.43±12.62 kg; KG mean age was 15.58±1.43 years, height 160.97±4.46 cm, body weight 58.10±10.03 kg. In the research, the pretest-posttest model, which is one of the experimental research types, was used. Body composition measurements, body fat ratios (BMI), body mass indexes (BMI) and waist-hip ratios, flexibility, muscle strength, muscle endurance and posture analysis measurements were taken from both groups before and after the study. During the research process, while UG was given mat pilates exercises for 1 hour, 2 days a week for 8 weeks, KG continued their daily routine. In the analysis of the data, the repeated measure ANOVA test was used to determine the difference. The significance level was taken as p0.05). There was a significant difference in UG leg strength, back strength, sit-up, push-up measurements and posture analysis values compared to KG (p<0.01). In the pre-post test measurements of the UG, significant differences were observed in the leg strength, back strength, sit-ups, push-ups and body posture analysis values (p<0.01). Although no significant difference was observed in the flexibility measurement (p=0.05), it was observed that the mean value increased. As a result, it has been observed that pilates exercises are effective on strength, endurance and body posture, which are physical fitness elements. For this reason, we recommend that pilates exercises be used for some physical fitness elements and the development of body posture

    Bu çalışmada Rus yazınını büyük ölçüde etkileyen Petersburg şehrinin genel olarak sanatçılar üzerindeki etkilerini anlamak adına şehrin kurucusu olan Çar I. Petro (1672-1725) ve şehrin kurulduğu dönem hakkında detaylı bilgi verilmiş ardından N. V. Gogol'ün edebi sanatında Petersburg yansımalarına değinilmiştir. İlk olarak 1835 yılında "Arabeskler" derlemesinde yayınlanan "Petersburg Öyküleri" Petersburg'u daha çok şehrin yaşam şekli, soylu kesimin özellikleri üzerinden konu alır. Öykülerin karakterlerini, hayattan kopmuş küçük esnaflar, zanaatkarlar, yoksul sanatçılar ve "küçük insanlar" oluşturur. Petersburg'da yaşayan alt ve üst tabakadan insanlar, bu insanların maddi ve manevi değerleri, yaşam tarzları ile başkentin hayatlarında oynadığı rol "Petersburg Öyküleri"nde anlatılır. Bu çalışmada, Gogol'ün Rus gerçekçiliğinin gelişiminde önemli rol oynayan; "Nevskiy Caddesi", "Burun", "Portre", "Bir Delinin Hatıra Defteri" ve "Kaput" isimli öykülerini içeren "Petersburg Öyküleri" adlı eseri incelenmiştir. Öykülerin incelenmesi aşamasında yöntem olarak kullanılacak olan imge ve şehir imgesi kavramları üzerinde gerekli araştırma yapılarak Gogol'ün "Petersburg Öyküleri"ndeki Petersburg imgesi analiz edilmiştir. Öykülerde Petersburg soyluları, Petersburg sokakları, küçük insan, yozlaşan Petersburg toplumu, sekteye uğrayan bürokratik işleyiş, insanlar arasındaki sınıf farkı ve bir şehrin insan psikolojisine etkileri üzerine imgeler ortaya konmuştur.This study deals with the reflections of Petersburg on N.V. Gogol's literary career after a brief introduction to the life of Tsar Peter I (1672-1725), the founder of the city, and the era in which the city was founded with an aim to display the general influence of the city on the artists. Gogol's Petersburg Tales, published initially in 1835 as a part of the author's story collection titled Arabesques, takes its subject from the city itself with respect to the way of living of the people and the characteristics of the nobility. The characters in the tales are picked from among the small retailers, artisans, poor artists and 'the little men'. The high and low class citizens of Petersburg, their material and sentimental values, lifestyles and the role the capital city plays on their lives are dealt with in Petersburg Tales. This study discusses Gogol's famous stories "Nevsky Prespect", "The Nose", "The Portrait", "Diary of a Madman" and "The Overcoat", which play a significant role on the development of Russian realism, with an eye to the concepts "image" and "city image" to analyse the image of Petersburg in the above stories. This study also brings a new perspective to the image of Petersburg nobles, Petersburg streets, the little men, the degenerating Petersburg society, the malfunctioning bureaucratic process, the class differences between the citizens and the effects of a city on its citizens' psychologies through an analysis of the stories
