This study aimed to examine teachers' written feedback on student texts in terms of dimensions focused and qualitative characteristics. The study was conducted using content analysis technique that is one of the qualitative research methods. The participants were 28 Turkish language teachers working at middle schools in Nigde in the 2013-2014 school year. In the data gathering process, 6th graders were firstly asked to write sample texts of 250- 300-word length. Four of these texts were then selected by three experts. The participant teachers were asked to provide feedback on the four selected texts. The written feedback provided by the teachers were analysed by the researcher and two experts in terms of dimensions focused and quality. As a result of the analysis, a total of 750 pieces of feedback provided by 28 teachers for four different student texts were mostly about the dimension of spelling and punctuation. On the other hand, in terms of quality, 67,1% of the feedback was evaluative

Identifying and classifying the readability levels of Turkish texts

This study aimed to identify and classify the readability levels of Turkish texts. The sample in the Correlation Survey model included 32 Turkish instructional texts. The texts included in the sample of the study were administered to groups of 30 students, extending from the fifth class to the twelfth class. The cloze readability procedure was used in this research. Obtained data were analyzed in the SPSS program. In this research the relationship between the readability of texts and variables such as average word length, average sentence length, number of polysyllabic words, and the rate of repeated words was determined by the Pearson productmoment correlation analysis. As a result of this analysis, “the rate of repeated words” and the rate of polysyllabic words, which express the similar meanings with average word length and -.677 with the readability index, as measured by the cloze scores, were not included in the multiple regression analysis. As a result of multiple regression analysis, regression equation is: CS= 118,823 – 25, 987 x AWL - .971 x ASL According to this, one unit of change in average word length causes -25.987 unit change in readability score, and one unit of change in average sentence length causes -.971 in readability score. On the other hand, the coefficient determination of the equation was .739. Later, the averages of exact score for every class were analyzed by ANOVA test. As a result of this ANOVA test, resulting education level and cloze test scores are higher. Moreover, in order to determine the significant differences among the classes, multiple comparisons were made. According to this, there were not any significant differences among the classes 5-6-7 between the classes 8-9 and among the classes 10-11-12. Finally, as a result of the regression analysis and ANOVA tests, the conversion table was compose

Readability and understandability of andrology questionnaires

Objective: Medical questionnaires, which enable collection, comparison and analysis of appropriate data as a means of written communication between a patient and a doctor, must be easily readable, and understandable. Here, we measure the readability and understandability of questionnaires used in andrology and examine the relationship between the educational status of the patients and the understandability of the forms. Material and methods: Seven questionnaires used to diagnose andological diseases were selected from the European Association of Urology guidelines. The number of syllables per word, the number of words in a sentence, and the average word and sentence lengths were calculated for each Turkish validated form. Readability scores were calculated, and closet tests were used to measure the understandability of the texts. Results: Three hundred and twenty-seven male volunteers participated in the study. Two hundred and sixteen of the participants (66%) had a high school or college education. The readability level of the seven forms was determined to be ''Difficult'' or ''Very Difficult,'' and at least a high school education level was required to understand the forms. As education level and monthly income increased, the understandability of the forms increased; as the readability of the forms became more difficult, their understandability decreased (p<0.001). Conclusion: The readability levels of questionnaires used in andrology are well above the reading level of Turkey. Health providers can help patients to fill out forms to increase doctor-patient communication

Search for excited spin-3/2 neutrinos at LHeC

We study the potential of the next epep collider, namely LHeC, with two options s=1.3\sqrt{s}=1.3 TeV s=1.98\sqrt{s}=1.98 TeV, to search for excited spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 neutrinos. We calculate the single production cross section of excited spin-1/2 and spin-3/2 neutrinos according to their effective currents describing their interactions between gauge bosons and SM leptons. We choose the νeW\nu^{\star}\rightarrow eW decay mode of excited neutrinos and WjjW\rightarrow jj decay mode of WW-boson for the analysis. We put some kinematical cuts for the final state detectable particles and plot the invariant mass distributions for signal and the corresponding backgrounds. In order to obtain accessible limits for excited neutrino couplings, we show the fff-f^{\prime} and ciVciAc_{iV}-c_{iA} contour plots for excited spin-1/2 and excited spin-3/2 neutrinos, respectively.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, 5 Table

    Tezin basılısı İstanbul Şehir Üniversitesi Kütüphanesi'ndedir.Proteins are macromolecules in living systems used in crucial functions in all biological processes. In order to understand the function of a protein it is necessary to determine the structure of it. There are various techniques to obtain structural information and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy is one of the most important ones. In this technique, an essential step is the backbone resonance assignment and Structure Based Assignment (SBA) is a method solving this problem with the help of a template structure. NVR is an NMR protein SBA program, that takes as input 15N and HN chemical shifts and unambiguous NOEs, as well as RDCs, HD-exchange and TOCSY data. To run NVR, there is a sequence of steps in obtaining the datales from NMR data and the template structure. In this study, the process of preparing these datales is simpliedandautomatized, whichisanimportantpracticalstepinrunningNVRonnovel proteins. A method to distinguish NH2 peaks from HSQC peaks is generated. Finally, rather than computing a single assignment, an ensemble of assignments is computed. Using this ensemble of assignment results, degree of reliability for individual peak-amino acid assignments is obtained and assignment accuracy is improved. The results show that these improvements bring NVR closer to a tool to be useful and practical tool, able to handle the input data automatically and analyze the reliability of assignments.Declaration of Authorship ii Abstract iii Öz iv Acknowledgments v List of Figures vii List of Tables viii Abbreviations ix 1 Introduction 1 2 Literature Review 6 2.1 Related Work . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 6 2.2 NVR Framework . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 7 2.2.1 Mathematical Formulation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 8 2.2.2 Template Selection . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 9 3 Methodology 10 3.1 Automatization of the Data Preparation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 10 3.2 Distinguishing NH2 peaks . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 11 3.2.1 Experimental Analysis of Distinguishing NH2 peaks . . . . . . . . 13 3.3 Providing a Measure of Reliability of Assignments . . . . . . . . . . . . . 14 4 Results 17 4.1 Automatization of the Data Preparation Results . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 17 4.1.1 Test Results on Two Novel Proteins . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 17 4.2 Distinguishing NH2 peaks Results . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 17 4.3 Reliability Results . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 19 5 Conclusion 21 A NH2 Removal Scores of Randomly Selected Proteins 23 Bibliography 2
