Awareness & Prevention of Health Hazards for Americans Embarking in Space Tourism

    Get PDF
Since the beginning of spaceflight, keeping humans healthy has been a serious concern. Prior to 2021, astronauts had to undergo an elite selection process to embark in space travel. Now that commercial spaceflight is a reality, the criteria to experience space has been significantly loosened, raising health concerns to a larger and unhealthier pool of travelers. Most commercial spaceflight clients are anticipated to be middle-aged adults, which implies many will suffer from high blood pressure and heart disease, both of which are frequent ailments in this age group. Because of the massive compression the body undergoes during takeoff and return, even a brief trip into space could pose major health risks to the elderly and those with comorbidities. Longer flights are likely to aggravate several common medical conditions like asthma, heart disease, and cancer, which would normally disqualify someone from a NASA flight according to NASA’s database. The space environment includes cosmic radiation, altered gravity fields, hostile environments, isolation/confinement, and distance from the earth. Some of the detrimental health outcomes include cancer, cardiovascular disease, central nervous system risks, impaired immune function, muscle atrophy/bone loss, sleep disorders and behavioral changes. While the space exposome proposes its own challenges, the individual factors of each civilian also contribute to disease outcome, and the differences between civilians and highly trained astronauts must be addressed. Since the industry of space travel is just beginning, the realities of space tourism for an average American are still unknown. However, evidence supports the alarming differences between an average American and a trained astronaut embarking in space travel

The forward photon production and the gluonic content of the real and virtual photon at the HERA collider

The discussion on the production of prompt photons with pT of a few GeV in the tagged process ep -> e gamma X with small Q^2 (DIC process) at the HERA collider is presented. Photons produced in the forward (proton) direction are mainly originating from subprocesses involving interactions of the gluonic content of the exchanged photon. The large enhancement over the Born term (direct photon) is found up to a factor of 35 for a real photon and up to 5 for a virtual photon with a squared virtuality 1 GeV^2. It gives a possibility of extracting a gluonic density of the real and of the virtual photon. The BFKL approach to the description of the forward particle production is shortly discussed.Comment: 7 pages, 2 ps figures, latex using psfig.sty and axodraw.sty. Presented at the International Conference on the Structure and Interactions of the Photon, PHOTON'99, 23-27 May 1999, Freiburg im Breisgan, German

Ab intus legere Scripturam. The Role of Understanding (intellectus) in the Biblical Exegesis of Thomas Aquinas

The aim of the article is to show the intellectual character of biblical exegesis of Thomas Aquinas. The problem is presented from the perspective of the gift of understanding (donum intellectus), contemplation and issues of the word of the heart (verbum cordis). Thomas’s exegesis is not intellectualistic (erudite) or existential and it is not only based on the division of the biblical text. His exegesis originates from a deep reading of reality (a serious practice of metaphysics), the knowledge of the tradition, especially the Fathers of the Church, as well as religious life, whose cause is God (natural and supernatural efficiency).Ab intus legere Scripturam.

EVOLUTION OF PROCEEDINGS IN MATTERS OF LABOUR LAW IN POLAND

A debate regarding the shape and form of civil procedural law and the optimum structure and systematics of the Code of Civil Procedure has been ongoing in Poland for years. Nowadays, labour law cases are examined in separate proceedings – a variation on trial. Deviations from general procedural rules tie in with the peculiarities of such litigation, its social importance and gravity, and the nature of the legal relationship subject to protection. Special-purpose legal regulations have been designed to protect the employee. They augment the procedural position of the subject recognised as the so-called vulnerable party in litigation with the employer. The scope of introducing separate proceedings is determined by intricate and complicated definitions of phrases such as “labour law cases” and “employee”. Preserving such a judicial trial model will encounter criticism in Poland, given the postulate of uniformity in examining civil law cases, and the belief that separate proceedings in labour law cases are a relic of previous structures (so-called socialist trials) and the contemporaneous political system in Poland, not to mention the confidence that the model in question does not correspond with contemporary reality or labour market requirements. An additional argument in favour of eliminating the solution involved the introduction of other separate (subject-dispersed) proceedings in cases involving consumers in 2023, also designed to boost the so-called vulnerable party in judicial proceedings. Regardless, one ought to bear in mind that substantive law provisions are regulated by a separate law (the Labour Code), whereas the need for legal and procedural protection for employees in Poland remains essential, as duly proven by the complex and multi-stage evolution of related legal regulations over the last several dozen years. &nbsp
