    Competition of Orbital Antiferromagnetism With Q-Triplet-Pairing in the Ferromagnetic Superconductor UGe2_2

    Within a multicomponent BCS-like framework we study the coexistence and competition of various CDW and SC order parameters in the presence of a strong ferromagnetic background. We find that the competition of unconventional CDW, also called orbital antiferromagnet, with SC at finite momentum (Q{\bf Q}-triplet pairing) shows unique characteristics like an extreme sensitivity on the deviations from nesting. We argue that pressure in UGe2_2 creates deviations from the nesting and report a phase diagram in qualitative agreement with the observed behavior of UGe2_2.Comment: M2S Rio 200

    Please note: this article is written in Greek. Having faith in the value of laography, which presupposes that migrants are faithful to tradition, I began this study with the belief that the process of this project would be a straight forward one. After all, from the outset there was a desire by all to cooperate. In May 1993 by witnessing and documenting first and second generation migrants, I commenced my work in Melbourne Australia, becoming part of the music and dance tradition of Florina, which was still alive and flourishing 17,000 km away from its natural environment. In the process however, circumstances changed and unforeseen difficulties occurred. Besides the individuals, the procedures, the alterations -- whether deliberate or coincidental -- and the conditions, which contributed to the transfer, and preservation, I encountered in ascertaining and isolating this music and dance tradition, I also had to overcome the gap which had developed between the opposing sides on the “Macedonian” issue. Here things weren’t at all easy. Both sides use the same dance and music, often using it against each other not willing to accept under any circumstances that music and dance unite rather than divide, and that you cannot enclose music and dance within borders

    International audienceIn this paper, we apply the principles of information theory that relate to the definition of nonlinear predictability, which is a measure that describes both the linear and nonlinear components of a system. By comparing this measure to a measure of linear predictability, one can assess whether a given system has a strong nonlinear or a strong linear component. This provides insights as to whether the system should be modelled by a nonlinear model or by a linear model. We apply these ideas to a known dynamical system and to a time series that describe the transitions in atmospheric circulation

    A Comparative 2-Dimensional Gel Protein Database of the Intact and Regenerating Newt Limbs

    In this paper we describe a two-dimensional gel database of the regenerating newt limb. Protein synthesis was compared in the intact limb, in the 1-week regenerating limb, representing the dedifferentiation stage, and in the 2-week regenerating limb, representing the formation of the blastema. This comparative database provided data on differential expression of about 800 proteins during the process of limb regeneration. In addition, a map has been generated for these proteins for future guidance in characterizing further new, unknown proteins. The overall expression patterns of the proteins indicated that the dedifferentiation stage was marked by down-regulation of most proteins, while the blastema formation was marked by the appearance of many new proteins. The potential use of such a database in isolating factors involved during limb regeneration is discussed

    Partitioning Complexity in Air Traffic Management Task

    Cognitive complexity is a term that appears frequently in air traffic control (ATC) research literature, yet there is little principled investigation of the potential sources of cognitive complexity. Three distinctly different sources of cognitive complexity are proposed which are environmental, organizational, and display. Two experiments were conducted to explore whether or not these proposed components of complexity could be effectively partitioned, measured, and compared. The findings demonstrate that sources of complexity can be decomposed and measured and furthermore, the use of color in displays, a display design intervention meant to reduce environmental complexity, can actually contribute to it.This research was sponsored by the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute

    Traders' strategy with price feedbacks in financial market

    We introduce an autoregressive-type model of prices in financial market taking into account the self-modulation effect. We find that traders are mainly using strategies with weighted feedbacks of past prices.
