Best Practices to Improve English Language Acquisition for High School EL Students who have Experienced Trauma

English Learner students are a rapidly growing subset of the U.S. student population with unique strengths and needs compared to their monolingual peers. My experiences as an EL teacher with secondary EL students who have experienced trauma led to my capstone question: what best practices can be used for high school EL students who have been impacted by trauma to build their English language acquisition? While there is a plethora of research on EL students and on trauma, there is little research connecting the two topics. However, research demonstrates a number of proven strategies to help EL students and students who have experienced trauma be successful in the classroom. The information learned in this capstone led to the creation of a professional development workshop series for all school staff on EL students, the effects of trauma, and best practices for working with EL students who have experienced trauma

Pentafluorphenylamid-Liganden als Designkonzept für funktionale Metall-Lewis-Säuren der Elemente des p- und d-Blocks

Im ersten Teil dieser Arbeit wird eine neue Methode zur Synthese N-pentafluorphenylsubstituierter Arylamine vorgestellt. Das neue Verfahren ermöglicht eine leichte Funktionalisierung der Stickstoffatome primärer Arylmono- sowie Aryldiamine mit C6F5 Substituenten. Wie gezeigt wurde, ist die Substitution an carbonyl- und bromsubstituierten Arylaminen ohne zusätzliche Einführung von Schutzgruppen möglich. Das zweite Kapitel dieser Arbeit befaßt sich mit der Synthese, dem chemischen Verhalten und der strukturellen Charakterisierung von Komplexen der Elemente des p- und d Blocks mit den synthetisierten Amidochelat-Liganden. Neue Amide des Lithiums, Zinns, Zinks und Aluminiums wurden synthetisiert. Dimethylamidokomplexe von Titan und Zirkonium mit den hergestellten N pentafluorphenylsubstituierten Amidoliganden wurden durch Umaminierungsreaktionen von M(NMe2)4 (M= Ti, Zr) mit Pentafluorophenylaminen synthetisiert. Weitere Funktionalisierung der Dimethylamidokomplexe zu Dichlor- und Dimethylkomplexen führte zu thermisch instabilen Verbindungen. Da die Benzylderivate von Ti und Zr eine wesentlich höhere thermische Stabilität zeigen, wurden die synthetisierten Pentafluorophenylamine in einer Austauschreaktion mit MBz4 (M= Ti, Zr) umgesetzt. Die erhaltenen Dibenzylzirkoniumkomplexe wurden mit BCF aktiviert. Die NMR-Daten der Reaktionslösungen bestätigen die Bildung von bei Raumtemperatur stabilen Kation-Anion Paaren, die in der Ethenpolymerisation inaktiv sind. Im dritten Kapitel dieser Arbeit wird über neue Decafluorodiphenylamide (DFDPA) der Hauptgruppenelemente berichtet. Der stark elektronenziehende Charakter der Decafluorodiphenylamidogruppe eröffnet die Möglichkeit, sehr starke Lewis-Säuren zu generieren. Wie es gezeigt wurde, koordiniert Blei(II) Decafluorodiphenylamid ein- oder zwei Toluol-Moleküle. Zink(II) Decafluorodiphenylamid koordiniert ein Hexamethyldisilazan-Molekül als Lewis-Base. Aluminium Tris-decafluorodiphenylamid besitzt eine sehr hohe Lewis-Acidität und ist fähig ein Fluoridion aus Hexafluorantimonaten zu abstrahieren. Aluminium Tris-decafluorodiphenylamid und davon abgeleitete nicht-koordinierende Anionen wurden in der Ethenpolymerisation untersucht. Aluminium Tris decafluorodiphenylamid ist in der Ethenpolymerisation mit Dimethylzirkonocen und Triisobuthylaluminium aktiv. Bei hohen Konzentrationen an Triisobuthylaluminium wird das System wegen des Ligandenaustausches inaktiv. In der Arbeit wurden 46 neue Verbindungen charakterisiert, 20 davon mit Röntgenstrukturanalyse
