Modelling of a dynamic multiphase flash: the positive flash. Application to the calculation of ternary diagrams

    Get PDF
A general and polyvalent model for the dynamic simulation of a vapor, liquid, liquid-liquid, vapor-liquid or vapor-liquid-liquid stage is proposed. This model is based on the -method introduced as a minimization problem by Han & Rangaiah (1998) for steady-state simulation. They suggested modifying the mole fraction summation such that the same set of governing equations becomes valid for all phase regions. Thanks to judicious additional switch equations, the -formulation is extended to dynamic simulation and the minimization problem is transformed into a set of differential algebraic equations (DAE). Validation of the model consists in testing its capacity to overcome phase number changes and to be able to solve several problems with the same set of equations: calculation of heterogeneous residue curves, azeotropic points and distillation boundaries in ternary diagrams

Development of intelligent systems in particular Water Distribution Systems (WDS) increases the demand of implementing a secure scheme that can preserve user’s identification and data consumption through maintaining confidentiality, authentication and integrity. Decentralization topology has investigated a lot recently in the literature with the development of bitcoins and Ethereum networks in different IoT disciplines such as power systems and healthcare systems. In this paper, feasibility and uses cases studies on the integration WDS with Blockchain Technology are discussed. Moreover, the customer’s data and identity anonymity techniques that can be integrated with the network are discussed. Furthermore, a data aggregation mechanism of the smart meters in Water Distribution System (WDS) based on distributed ledger and Blockchain technologies is proposed. Further, the customer’s identity using bloom filter is simulated and optimal parameters of the bloom filter are suggest

Integrated Multilevel Optimization in Large Scale Poly(ethylene Terephthalate) Plants

    No full text
The present paper discusses the vertical integration of advanced predictive control, businesswide optimization and markets laws, based on a large-scale first-principles model. The case study is the poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) plant, with esterifier sections, finisher reactors, a crystallizer, and a solid-state polymerizer, and the overall mathematical model consists of more than 1500 differential and algebraic equations (DAEs). The complex integration among supply chain layers is reached using a Windows-Unix hybrid system; the methodology adopted is described, and a real-time strategy is implemented by using a secure shell connection for linking a PentiumIV, which simulates the plant, and a cluster Opteron, where the optimizer operates

Market-driven operational optimization of industrial gas supply chains

    No full text
This paper deals with the operational optimization of industrial gas supply chains. Industrial gas networks differ from other applications and require a rather special and shrewd approach to modeling and optimization issues. Currently in industrial gas plants: (i) the raw material is free; (ii) binding contracts and clauses place tight limits on supplies, production and distribution; (iii) electric energy cost fluctuations wield a greater influence over overall production than in other industrial areas; (iv) market demand is subject to multifaceted fluctuations and uncertainties; (v) long-term market demand is usually regulated by take-or-pay contracts; (vi) main users are on-site or connected via pipeline; and (vii) cryogenic storage constitutes a significant expense and encourages companies to veer toward just-in-time production. This paper also provides very general guidelines for dealing with the aforementioned peculiarities, and compares plant-wide and enterprise-wide optimizations of industrial gas networks. An existing network is adopted as industrial case study. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd
