Optimal sampling strategies for multiscale stochastic processes

In this paper, we determine which non-random sampling of fixed size gives the best linear predictor of the sum of a finite spatial population. We employ different multiscale superpopulation models and use the minimum mean-squared error as our optimality criterion. In multiscale superpopulation tree models, the leaves represent the units of the population, interior nodes represent partial sums of the population, and the root node represents the total sum of the population. We prove that the optimal sampling pattern varies dramatically with the correlation structure of the tree nodes. While uniform sampling is optimal for trees with ``positive correlation progression'', it provides the worst possible sampling with ``negative correlation progression.'' As an analysis tool, we introduce and study a class of independent innovations trees that are of interest in their own right. Dialogische Praxis- und Wissensentwicklung in der Sozialen Arbeit : Positionspapier zum Prozessmodell PROXI

In Zusammenarbeit mit Esther Forrer Kasteel und Karin Werner.Das vorliegende Working Paper zeigt den Prozess der Modellentwicklung PROXI (Dialogische Praxis- und Wissensentwicklung) am Departement Soziale Arbeit der ZHAW auf. Das Paper geht von der Annahme aus, dass Wissensbestände in Theorie, Empirie und Profession Sozialer Arbeit möglicherweise verschieden sind, sich aber in ihrer Art nicht grundsätzlich voneinander unterscheiden. Im Weiteren versteht das Working Paper Praxis- und Wissensentwicklung als ein Handlungsfeld, das der Praxis- und Wissenssicherung nachgeordnet ist. Darauf aufbauend verweist PROXI auf verschiedene Dialogtraditionen und stellt ein allgemeines Handlungsmodell für die Entwicklung von Praxis und Wissen zur Verfügung

Thermal Expansion and Magnetostriction Studies of a Kondo Lattice Compound: Ceagsb2

We have investigated a single crystal of CeAgSb2 using low field ac-susceptibility, thermal expansion and magnetostriction measurements in the temperature range 1.5K to 90K. The ac-susceptibility exhibits a sharp peak at 9.7K for both B//c and B perp c due to the magnetic ordering of the Ce moment. The thermal expansion coefficient alpha, exhibits highly anisotropic behaviour between 3K and 80K : alpha is positive for dL/L perp c, but negative for dL/L // c. Furthermore, alpha (for dL/L) perp c (i.e. in ab-plane) exhibits a sharp peak at TN followed by a broad maximum at 20K, while a sharp negative peak at TN followed by a minimum at 20K has been observed for (dL/L //) the c direction. The observed maximum and minimum in alpha(T) at 20K have been attributed to the crystalline field effect on the J=5/2 state of the Ce3+ ion. The magnetostriction also exhibits anisotropic behaviour with a large magnetostriction along the c-axis. The ab-plane magnetostriction exhibits a peak at B=3.3T at 3K, which is consistent with the observed peak in the magnetoresistance measurements.Comment: 4 Pages (B5), 3 figures, submitted to SCES200

A strong Tauberian theorem for characteristic functions

International audienceUsing wavelet analysis we show that if the characteristic function of a random variable X can be approximated at 0 by some polynomial of even degree 2p then the moment of order 2p of X exists. This strengthens a Tauberian-type result by Ramachandran and implies that the characteristic function is actually 2p times differentiable at 0. This fact also provides the theoretical basis for a wavelet based non-parametric estimator of the tail index of a distribution

Jugendarbeit Wallisellen : Bestandessichtung, Analyse und Empfehlungen - Schlussbericht

Das Ressort Gesellschaft der Gemeinde Wallisellen, Kanton Zürich wollte auf der Basis einer externen Bestandessichtung und Analyse sowie eines darauf aufbauenden Konzeptrahmens und entsprechenden Empfehlungen die Weiterentwicklung der Jugendarbeit Wallisellen planen. Die ZHAW, Departement Soziale Arbeit wurde beauftragt, zwischen Dezember 2012 und Mai 2013 die Sichtung und Analyse vorzunehmen und in Berichtsform Konzeptrahmen und Empfehlungen aufzuzeigen. Der ZHAW stand dafür eine ausführliche Bestandesdokumentation – erstellt von der Abteilung Gesellschaft Wallisellen – zur Verfügung. Ergänzend dazu wurden von der ZHAW Interviews mit zehn Schlüsselpersonen der Jugendarbeit Wallisellen geführt. Auf dieser Datenbasis erstellte sie den vorliegenden Bericht.
