    Density Classification Quality of the Traffic-majority Rules

    The density classification task is a famous problem in the theory of cellular automata. It is unsolvable for deterministic automata, but recently solutions for stochastic cellular automata have been found. One of them is a set of stochastic transition rules depending on a parameter η\eta, the traffic-majority rules. Here I derive a simplified model for these cellular automata. It is valid for a subset of the initial configurations and uses random walks and generating functions. I compare its prediction with computer simulations and show that it expresses recognition quality and time correctly for a large range of η\eta values.Comment: 40 pages, 9 figures.     Gliders and Ether in Rule 54

    This is a study of the one-dimensional elementary cellular automaton rule 54 in the new formalism of "flexible time". We derive algebraic expressions for groups of several cells and their evolution in time. With them we can describe the behaviour of simple periodic patterns like the ether and gliders in an efficient way.     While the ongoing pandemic affects all European economies, we show that it is likely to cause much more economic damage in some member states than in others. Early fiscal crisis responses by EU governments do not reflect these differences. If anything, countries which are likely to be especially vulnerable are currently committing fewer fiscal resources to fighting the economic fallout than others. A joint European policy response to share the fiscal burden of this crisis is, therefore, urgently needed

    Paul’s letter to the Galatians, according to the traditional reading, is read through a sixteenth century paradigm to answer the question, “How is a person saved?” In this traditional reading, Paul’s purpose is to establish the doctrine of justification by faith alone apart from “works of the Law” as the only way a person can be saved. Recent scholarship has examined and “read” this beautiful epistle through a different paradigm, namely an apocalyptic one. In an apocalyptic reading of Galatians, Paul’s focus is shifted, though the doctrine of justification remains. This paper will look at the contrast of these two readings specifically with reference to the ‘flesh/Spirit’ dichotomy in Gal 5:16-26

    MORPHOLOGY AND CONFORMATION OF POLYTHIOPHENE DERIVATIVES IN ANISOTROPIC CORE-SHELL NANOCOMPOSITES AND SOLUTION

    Conjugated semiconducting polymers have garnered substantial interest in recent years due to the potential for use in various applications, particularly in the field of electronic devices such as photovoltaic cells and light emitting diodes. Conjugated polymers offer numerous advantages in these applications, including low cost and high flexibility, but electronic devices based on these materials are currently limited by poor performance. Because of these limitations, increased focus has been placed on improving conjugated polymers for use in commercially viable products. Here, a novel core shell hybrid nanocomposite based on anisotropic zinc oxide nanowires and a side-chain functionalized polythiophene is reported. This nanocomposite exhibits confirmed covalent side-on linkage between the polymer and the nanowires, and the crystalline, thermal and photophysical properties of the nanocomposite are investigated, revealing elongated conjugation length in the polymer backbone, increased crystallinity and thermal stability and rapid charge transfer. Additionally, the conformational transitions of side-chain functionalized polythiophenes are investigated in dilute solution through the use of ultraviolet-visible absorption spectrophotometry. A coil-to-rod conformational transition is identified, and is found to be induceable through temperature and solvent changes. Study into the kinetics of the transition reveals a first-order rate law, and the effects of polymer structure on the conformational transition are substantiated
