    Lattice bosons in quartic confinement

We present a theoretical study of bose condensation of non-interacting bosons in finite lattices in quartic potentials in one, two, and three dimensions. We investigate dimensionality effects and quartic potential effects on single boson density of energy states, condensation temperature, condensate fraction, and specific heat. The results obtained are compared with corresponding results for lattice bosons in harmonic traps.Comment: revised version, 11 pages including figures, accepted in EPJ

Seroprevalence of Helicobacter pylori in patients with symptoms of upper gastro intestinal tract at a tertiary care hospital

Background: The association of helicobacter pylori with upper gastrointestinal diseases is widely reported. Currently according to guidelines the test and treat option is preferable in population with a moderate to high prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection (≥10%), and empiric trial of acid suppression with a proton pump inhibitor for 4 to 8 weeks in low prevalence situation. Hence prevalence rate of Helicobacter pylori is significant for the treatment strategies. Aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in patients with symptoms of upper gastrointestinal tract in our tertiary care hospital and to analyse its distribution according to age and sex. Methods: The study was conducted in the department of surgery at ACS medical college for a period of 6 months from February 2016 to July 2016.Adult patients attending the outpatient department in our hospital with symptoms of upper gastrointestinal tract for more than 6 weeks were evaluated for Helicobacter pylori by doing the immuno-card test “one step antibodies to Helicobacter pylori (SD Bioloine)”. Analysis of Helicobacter pylori distribution according to age and sex were done in these positive patients. Results: Out of 400 patients, 117 were found positive for Helicobacter pylori by giving a prevalence rate of 29.25%. Age-wise distribution showed prevalence rate progressively increased with age and the high prevalence was seen in the 41 to 50 years age group and thereafter decreased gradually in the older age groups. High prevalence was observed in males, as out of the 117 Helicobacter pylori positive patients, 74 (63.25%) were males and 43 (36.75%) were females. Conclusions: The prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with symptoms of upper gastrointestinal tract was lower than rates reported in developing countries. But as the prevalence rates in our study is more than 10%, the test and treat approach is more appropriate than starting empirical treatment with a proton pump inhibitor

Agrarian distress and rural livelihoods : a study in Upputhara Panchayat, Idukki District, Kerala

This study examines the impact of agrarian distress on the different socio-economic groups, the strategies of livelihood adopted by households and the local institution in shaping these strategies. The study is based on the data collected from in-depth socio-economic enquiries conducted in Upputhara Panchayat in Idukki District. An important conclusion of the study is that the strategies of livelihood framed in response to a shock could vary across households depending on the extent of their asset ownership. Households in Upputhara achieved diversification of livelihoods in three major ways: through diversifying their cropping pattern, through diversifying their local occupations and through migration. The study showed that (a) in formulating coping strategies, households benefited from increased access to a number of public institution created through public action in earlier years; (b) access of households to the different welfare institutions was declining in recent years; and (c) the livelihood systems of people remained extremely vulnerable. Obviously, strengthening the livelihood systems of households would require sustaining their livelihood assets and income by reversing these state policies and making effective of the functioning of the local institutions like the Panchayat. Bose-Einstein condensate in a quartic potential:static and dynamic properties

In this paper, we present a theoretical study of a Bose-Einstein condensate of interacting bosons in a quartic trap in one, two, and three dimensions. Using Thomas-Fermi approximation, suitably complemented by numerical solutions of the Gross-Pitaevskii equation, we study the ground sate condensate density profiles, the chemical potential, the effects of cross-terms in the quartic potential, temporal evolution of various energy components of the condensate, and width oscillations of the condensate. Results obtained are compared with corresponding results for a bose condensate in a harmonic confinement

Wind energy–hydrogen storage hybrid power generation

In this theoretical investigation, a hybrid power generation system utilizing wind energy and hydrogen storage is presented. Firstly, the available wind energy is determined, which is followed by evaluating the efficiency of the wind energy conversion system. A revised model of windmill is proposed from which wind power density and electric power output are determined. When the load demand is less than the output of the generation, the excess electric power is relayed to the electrolytic cell where it is used to electrolyze the de-ionized water. Hydrogen thus produced can be stored as hydrogen compressed gas or liquid. Once the hydrogen is stored in an appropriate high-pressure vessel, it can be used in a combustion engine, fuel cell, or burned in a water-cooled burner to produce a very high-quality steam for space heating, or to drive a turbine to generate electric power. It can also be combined with organic materials to produce synthetic fuels. The conclusion is that the system produces no harmful waste and depletes no resources. Note that this system also works well with a solar collector instead of a windmill. Framework And User Interface For Aggregated Multi-domain Tasks

    Get PDF
Task management user interfaces, such as those utilized by merchants that manage storefronts on online retail platforms, are complex and difficult to use. For example, different tasks such as orders, returns/refunds, customer requests, etc. may each be associated with corresponding data and may be managed via different tools and/or user interfaces. The separation of tasks across different domains does not allow users to understand the relative priorities for various tasks. This disclosure describes a templatized generic task definition framework that allows tasks from different domains to be defined in a common format. The common task format includes rich contextual information such as task metadata and the primary and secondary actions to complete the task. The templatized task definition framework can be used to containerize the information relevant for decision making related to the task and the corresponding user actions into a single interface and to provide a unified task management user interface. Further, the task metadata stored per the framework can be used for prioritization across tasks from different domains to infer priority across different task and task types to make it easier to manage the overall workload
