The dynamics of the pendulum suspended on the forced Duffing oscillator

We investigate the dynamics of the pendulum suspended on the forced Duffing oscillator. The detailed bifurcation analysis in two parameter space (amplitude and frequency of excitation) which presents both oscillating and rotating periodic solutions of the pendulum has been performed. We identify the areas with low number of coexisting attractors in the parameter space as the coexistence of different attractors has a significant impact on the practical usage of the proposed system as a tuned mass absorber.Comment: Accepte

The dynamics of co- and counter rotating coupled spherical pendulums

The dynamics of co- and counter-rotating coupled spherical pendulums (two lower pendulums are mounted at the end of the upper pendulum) is considered. Linear mode analysis shows the existence of three rotating modes. Starting from linear modes allow we calculate the nonlinear normal modes, which are and present them in frequency-energy plots. With the increase of energy in one mode we observe a symmetry breaking pitchfork bifurcation. In the second part of the paper we consider energy transfer between pendulums having different energies. The results for co-rotating (all pendulums rotate in the same direction) and counter-rotating motion (one of lower pendulums rotates in the opposite direction) are presented. In general, the energy fluctuations in counter-rotating pendulums are found to be higher than in the co-rotating case.Comment: The European Physical Journal Special Topics 201

Women’s Rights, Procreative Liberty and Theory of Identity

In the present paper we investigate, from the politico-philosophical point of view, the inconsistencies of legal solutions concerning reproductive freedom that are present in various jurisdictions in the civilised world. We hypothesise that an attempt to introduce into legal systems such institutions as preconception harm, prenatal harm or wrongful life without taking into consideration metaphysical questions of identity and ontological status of the foetus is doomed to failure. To boot, we pay attention to the relationship between these new legal inventions and the question of procreative liberty and women’s rights

    Axiology of the Right-wing Bioluddism

    Get PDF
The main purpose of this article is to describe and elaborate an axiology of new political movement named bioluddism or  bioconservatism. We are going to focus on the right wing of biolludism, which embraces ideas and theories such authors  as John Kass, Francis Fukuyama and Michael Sandel. The background of our work is biopolitical litigation between bioluddists and transhumansists which takes place in contemporary USA. Common point to this theories is a crypto -religious character of theirs argumentation. In conclusion we are going to show the value of this kind of arguments in  the contemporary political and ideological context

Synchronous motion of two vertically excited planar elastic pendula

    Get PDF
The dynamics of two planar elastic pendula mounted on the horizontally excited platform have been studied. We give evidence that the pendula can exhibit synchronous oscillatory and rotation motion and show that stable in-phase and anti-phase synchronous states always co-exist. The complete bifurcational scenario leading from synchronous to asynchronous motion is shown. We argue that our results are robust as they exist in the wide range of the system parameters.Comment: Submitte

    Czy libertarianizm jest teorią polityczną?

    Get PDF
The purpose of the article is to answer the question: Is libertarianism a political theory? As political theory we recognize such theory, which consider the issue of stability as the subject of investigations. There are three possible questions about political order: 1) what shape should it take; 2) how to achieve it? 3) how to maintain it? We consider the last question as the basic question of modern political theory. Libertarianism does not answer that question, which brings us to the conclusion, that libertarianism is not political theory, but ethical theory. Out of three of Joshua Cohen’s distinctions of criticism of social practices: 1) political 2) moral 3) unmarked Libertarianism is best characterized by the moral nature of criticism of social practices

    Monarchia sofokratyczna wedƂug Platona

    Get PDF
The purpose of the text is to present the concept of monarchy resulting from the philosophy of Plato. The analysis is based in particular on dialogues that explicitly mention the monarchist system such as Statesman nad Laws. Plots from other dialogues such as Minos, Euthydemus or Republic are taken only briefly. The main research problem concerns the category of knowledge in the context of royal rule. In conclusion, we state that knowledge, apart from philosophical importance, also has the dimension of balancing violence as a means of exercising power. Hence, the Platonic concept of monarchy can be considered sophocratic, in other words based on therule of wisdom
