Optical observations of GRB 060218/SN 2006aj and its host galaxy

The supernova SN 2006aj associated with GRB 060218 is the second-closest GRB-SN observed to date ($z$=0.033) and is the clearest example of a SN associated with a Swift GRB with the earliest optical spectroscopy. Its optical data showed that this is the fastest evolving and among the least luminous GRB-SNe (70% as luminous as SN1998bw). However, its expansion velocity and a comparison with other stripped-envelope SNe suggest that SN2006aj is an intermediate object between Type Ic GRB-SNe and those not accompained by a GRB. Optimal configuration of active and backup servers for augmented reality cooperative games

Interactive applications as online games and mobile devices have become more and more popular in recent years. From their combination, new and interesting cooperative services could be generated. For instance, gamers endowed with Augmented Reality (AR) visors connected as wireless nodes in an ad-hoc network, can interact with each other while immersed in the game. To enable this vision, we discuss here a hybrid architecture enabling game play in ad-hoc mode instead of the traditional client-server setting. In our architecture, one of the player nodes also acts as the server of the game, whereas other backup server nodes are ready to become active servers in case of disconnection of the network i.e. due to low energy level of the currently active server. This allows to have a longer gaming session before incurring in disconnections or energy exhaustion. In this context, the server election strategy with the aim of maximizing network lifetime is not so straightforward. To this end, we have hence analyzed this issue through a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model and both numerical and simulation-based analysis shows that the backup servers solution fulfills its design objective

The Meson Mass System

The neglected 35 MeV/c2 particle mass quantization hypothesis has recently been reassessed for all known meson states. The rule is found to be statistically relevant, once the states are grouped by quark composition and JPC, with slightly different mass units for each group. In certain groups the mass unit is spin-dependent. Also the mass units are linearly quantized, with highly structured correlation patterns. The baryon masses are organized along similar lines. These results support an indication that hadrons might be shell-structured

Eichmann e noi - una rilettura di Hannah Arendt sul 'giudizio'

Questo articolo ricostruisce la visione del giudizio formulata da Hannah Arendt in un arco di opere che va da Understanding and Politics (1953) a Willing (apparso postumo nel 1978). Tesi centrale della presente analisi è che, diversamente da quanto sostenuto dalla maggioranza degli interpreti, il contributo dell'autrice in questo ambito sia di matrice primariamente filosofico-morale. Nel primo paragrafo viene rigettata l'ipotesi di una cesura all'interno della produzione arendtiana sul judging, mentre nel successivo si indagano gli effetti su quest'ultima del processo al burocrate nazista Adolf Eichmann. I paragrafi terzo e quarto ricostruiscono il tortuoso percorso che portò Arendt ad individuare nel giudizio una possibile risposta ad alcuni drammatici interrogativi etici, mentre nel quinto si tenta di dimostrare che le Lectures on Kant's Political Philosophy non costituiscono, come solitamente si crede, il nucleo del volume non scritto di The Life of the Mind - il quale avrebbe dovuto avere come tema proprio l' Urteilskraft.
