Prospects and expectations: reflections on a science in change
I use “prospects” to connote the continuing subversion of the environment. “Expectations” refer to what I think Statistics should be making of itself in the era of global change science. I develop thoughts on these in three main sections. In the first, I recount up-to-date information about global warming. This topic is intriguing to me, since global warming is potentially the most subversive environmental process, appears least preventable, and as such, most deserving to be a focal point in ecological study scenarios. In the second section, I discuss briefly the ecological agenda and the implications therein for definition of the sampling environment. The third and last large section explains how I think of what should constitute an applicable statistical dialect for users in global change science. I detail the basic principles, enumerate choices, and deal with other bare necessities upon which such a Statistics should be founded
The state of the Hungarian ornamental horticulture industry, recommendations for development
R&D and innovative technologies are required in the EU for being competitive on the world market. Education and professional co-ordination is vitally important, as well as maintenance and development of our genetic bases
Pattern dynamics: an essay concerning principles, techniques, and applications
This Essay is response to the general question that I put to myself: How should I, an outsider to the topic, go about rationalising the notion of pattern and its dynamics when the pattern objects come from the vegetation? To facilitate succinct discussion of a very broad and intertwined topic, the Essay breaks down the pattern paradigm into three parts. The first part is concerned with the conceptual universe defined by the pattern objects, scale dependences, and order-chaos convolutions. The second part deals with the description of pattern and its evolution through time. The third, in the manner of a number of short comments, takes up pattern epidemiology, the Art of revealing cause and effect, extent, and significance

An overview of the typical plant application possibilities of green roofs in Hungary
Green roofs play a key role in the sustainable development of cities, and creating and increasing green spaces seems to be the most effective solution. Extreme conditions in cities are not conducive to plants. The key issue is the suitability of the species that can be used for this purpose. Due to their wide tolerance and toughness, Sedum species are most commonly used for extensive green roofs. They have a smaller biological product, but with their associated plant surface they are able to provide the expected ecological service even in a particularly thin medium. The performance of green roofs varies depending on the type of vegetation. Studies show that many other perennials are potentially more beneficial than the Sedum species. Of course, these also require more maintenance. Greater use of grasses in roof gardens can have a number of benefits. Grasses, on the other hand, are relatively undemanding, they can be used even in extensive conditions, their heavy metal and drought tolerance is outstanding, and they can withstand the harsh conditions of cities. The deeper medium required by the trees is only available in intense roof garden conditions. Thanks to the grass breeding in Hungary, Hungary has a huge genetic background, which can provide an excellent starting point for the selection of a specifically roof garden variety. In order to have a more efficient, economical and sustainable future, it is important to study and research the plants we use and to expand our knowledge. Thanks to the grassland breeding in Hungary, it has a huge genetic background. This summary will help you review the options, goals, and guidelines for finding the plant species needed for roof gardening
A potenciális allergenitás felhasználási lehetősége a zöldterületek minősítésében és az allergén terhelés szabályozásában = The Application of Potential Allergenicity in the Evaluation of Urban Green Spaces and Regulation of Allergen Exposure
Emellett bemutatjuk a módszer alkalmazásának lehetőségét a zöldterületek allergén pollen kibocsátásának csökkentésére, amelyet elsősorban szabályozás révén, közterületek vonatkozásában lehetne megvalósítani
Ward's Hierarchical Clustering Method: Clustering Criterion and Agglomerative Algorithm
The Ward error sum of squares hierarchical clustering method has been very
widely used since its first description by Ward in a 1963 publication. It has
also been generalized in various ways. However there are different
interpretations in the literature and there are different implementations of
the Ward agglomerative algorithm in commonly used software systems, including
differing expressions of the agglomerative criterion. Our survey work and case
studies will be useful for all those involved in developing software for data
analysis using Ward's hierarchical clustering method.Comment: 20 pages, 21 citations, 4 figure
A növények potenciális allergenitása - Áttekintés és módszertani javaslat = Potential Allergenicity of Plants - Review and Methodological Proposal
A növényi pollen allergizáló képessége számos tényezőtől függ. E feltételek: a pollen allergiás immunválasz kiváltására alkalmas anyagot tartalmazzon, a pollent nagy mennyiségben termelje a növény, a pollenszem kis méretű legyen és könnyen, nagy mennyiségben szálljon a levegőben, a növény gyakori, tömegesen előforduló fajba tartozzon.
