    This study discusses the influence of modernization that changes the values of Buddhism in the Buddhist Institute Prasadha Jinarakkhita Jakarta. This study aims to determine how the effects of modernization on the value of religion in Prasadha Jinarakkhita Buddhist Institute, a component of religious values that influenced by the modernization in Prasadha Jinarakkhita Buddhist Institute, the impact of modernization in Prasadha Jinarakkhita Buddhist Institute, the type of modernization that affect the values of religion, and the Buddhists’ response against the values of Buddhism. This study used a mixed approach and the descriptive study method. The data collection was done by using, observation, documentation, in-depth interviews, questionnaires and analysis. Informants consisted of the religious heads, administrators, and Buddhists. The results of this study : First,the effect of modernization that changes the value of Buddhism comes from the development of technology, science, the influence of foreign cultures. Second, religious values that are affected by the modernization is religious emotion. Third, the positive impact of the modernization is science and technology and the negative impact is impairment of religion, indifference, material needs are more important. Fourth, the type of results that affect the public, namely the modernization of technology, the development of science, making individualistic attitude, consumptive lifestyles, following the style of Westernized, impairment and religious norms. And Fifth, the Buddhist community to understand the values of Buddhism.;---Penelitian ini membahas pengaruh modernisasi terhadap perubahan nilai-nilai agama Buddha di Prasadha Jinarakkhita Buddhist Institute Jakarta. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pengaruh modernisasi terhadap nilai agama di Prasadha Jinarakkhita Buddhist Institute, komponen nilai agama yang dipengaruhi modernisasi di Prasadha Jinarakkhita Buddhist Institute, dampak dari modernisasi di Prasadha Jinarakkhita Buddhist Institute, jenis modernisasi yang mempengaruhi pada nilai-nilai agama, dan respon umat Buddhis terhadap nilai-nilai agama Buddha. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan campuran dan metode studi deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik, observasi, dokumentasi, wawancara mendalam ,angket, dan analisis. Informan penelitian terdiri dari pihak kepala keagamaan, pengurus, dan masyarakat umat Buddhis. Dari hasil penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa pertama: pengaruh modernisasi pada perubahan nilai agama Buddha berasal dari perkembangan teknologi, ilmu pengetahuan, pengaruh dari budaya luar. Kedua, komponen nilai agama yang dipengaruhi modernisasi adalah dari emosi keagamaan. Ketiga, dampak positif modernisasi ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi dan dampak negatif penurunan nilai agama, sikap tidak peduli, kebutuhan materi lebih penting. Keempat, jenis hasil modernisasi yang mempengaruhi masyarakat yaitu teknologi, perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan, membuat sikap individualistik, pola hidup konsumtif, mengikuti gaya kebarat-baratan, penurunan nilai dan norma agama. Dan kelima, masyarakat agama Buddha memahami nilai-nilai agama Buddha

    Allometric scaling and metabolic ecology of microorganisms and major evolutionary transitions

    My dissertation centers around investigating big-picture questions related to understanding the consequences of metabolism and energetics on the evolution, ecology, and physiology of life. The evolutionary transitions from prokaryotes to unicellular eukaryotes to multicellular organisms were accompanied by major innovations in metabolic design. In my first chapter, I show that the scaling of metabolic rate, population growth rate, and production efficiency with body size have changed across these transitions. Metabolic rate scales with body mass superlinearly in prokaryotes, linearly in protists, and sublinearly in metazoans, so Kleibers 3/4 power scaling law does not apply universally across organisms. This means that major changes in metabolic processes during the early evolution of life overcame existing physical constraints, exploited new opportunities, and imposed new constraints on organism physiology. Surface areas of physiological structures of organisms impose fundamental constraints on metabolic rate. In my second chapter, I demonstrate that organisms have a variety of options for increasing the scaling of the area of their metabolic surfaces with body sizes. I develop models and examples illustrating the role of cell membrane elaborations, mitochondria, vacuoles, vesicles, inclusions, and shape-shifting in the architectural design, evolution, and ecology of unicellular microbes. I demonstrate how these surface-area scaling adaptations have played important roles in the evolution of major biological designs of cells and the physiological ecology of organisms. In my third and final chapter, I integrate and synthesize findings from the previous two chapters with important developments in geochemistry, microbiology, and astrobiology in order to identify the fundamental physical and biological dimensions that characterize a metabolic theory of ecology of microorganisms. These dimensions are thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, physiological harshness, cell size, and levels of biological organization. I show how addressing these dimensions can inform understanding of the physical and biological factors governing the metabolic rate, growth rate, and geographic distribution of cells. I propose a unifying theory to understand how the major ecological and evolutionary transitions that led to increases in levels of organization of life, such as endosymbiosis, multicellularity, eusociality, and multi-domain complexes, influences the metabolism and growth and the metabolic scaling of these complexes

    Penelitian ini merupakan suatu penelitian penerapan bahan ajar yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar melaksanakan prosedur K3 pada siswa kelas X TKR SMK Tamansiswa Surabaya dengan adanya pembelajaran yang menggunakan media berupa handout. Dalam upaya mengaktifkan siswa dalam kegiatan belajar. Handout digunakan sebagai panduan melaksanakan prosedur K3. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) yaitu kegiatan penelitian yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa. Hal ini terdapat pada tujuan umum penelitian adalah untuk meneliti pengaruh dari penerapan bahan ajar handout untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar melaksanakan prosedur K3 ditinjau dari hasil belajar dan respon siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan menggunakan metode pembelajaran langsung (MPL) dan metode pembelajaran kooperatif. Dari hasil penelitian penerapan bahan ajar handout pada kompetensi dasar melaksanakan prosedur K3 ini membuktikan bahwa hasil belajar siswa meningkat setelah mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan handout yaitu mencapai 86,66% dan menunjukan respon yang positif terhadap handout kompetensi dasar melaksanakan prosedur K3.     Problem-Based Learning and the Training of Secondary Social Studies Teachers: A Case Study of Candidate Perceptions during their Field Experience

    We present results of a case study in which we analyzed the impact of problem-based learning (PBL) and cognitive scaffolding techniques introduced in our secondary social studies methods course on the perceptions and practices of 12 preservice teachers (PSTs) during their fall practicum and spring student teaching. Our PSTs reported teaching 54 PBL lessons and identified factors that encouraged their use of PBL: methods course PBL experiences; improved student exam scores and writing skills, increased engagement; and improved collaborative, deliberative, and cognitive skills. Discouraging factors included the time and effort to plan PBL lessons, coverage demands, and standardized testing. Findings suggest that PBL methodology, supported by professorial modeling and metacognitive training, had a transformative impact on our PSTs in terms of how they perceived their relationship with their students, the student outcomes they sought to facilitate, and their operational understanding the goals of social studies education offered by the National Council for the Social Studies

    PENGEMBANGAN PERANGKAT PEMBELAJARAN DENGAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN KOOPERATIF TIPE NUMBERED HEAD TOGETHER (NHT) PADA MATA PELAJARAN TEKNIK ELEKTRONIKA DASAR UNTUK MENINGKATKAN HASIL BELAJAR SISWA

    Abstrak Latar belakang diadakannya penelitian ini adalah masih digunakannya model pembelajaran konvesional pada lembaga pendidikan. Pada model pembelajaran konvensional, siswa kurang dituntut untuk menguasai materi secara aktif sehingga berpengaruh pada hasil belajar siswa. Tujuan pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe numbered Head Togeteher (NHT) adalah diharapkan dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dan siswa dapat belajar secara aktif. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian pengembangan dengan menggunakan R&D. Langkah-langkah pada penelitian pengembangan ini ada 7tahapan yaitu(1) tahap potensi dan masalah; (2) tahap pengumpulan data; (3) tahap desain produk; (4) tahap validasi desain; (5) tahap revisi desain; (6) tahap ujicoba produk; (7) tahap revisi produk. Hasil validasi menunjukkan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran yang digunakan dengan metode pembelajaran mind mapping dinyatakan baik dengan rincian sebagai berikut: (1) Silabus 78.35%,  (2) Rencana Pelaksanaan Pembelajaran 76.67%, (3) Lembar Kerja Siswa 78%, (4) LP. Pengetahuan 74.25%, (5) LP. Proses dan Psikomotor 73.86%, dan (6) materi ajar 79.69%. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa seluruh instrumen yang dikembangkan dalam perangkat pembelajaran tersebut valid dan layak digunakan. Persentase ketuntasan belajar klasikal sebesar 90.91 % dan nilai rata-rata kelas 82.43 yang berarti ketuntasan belajar klasikal tuntas. Sedangkan jika ditinjau dari uji t diketahui bahwa t hitung sebesar 7.775 dimana nilai tersebut lebih besar dibandinkan dengan t tabel sebesar 1.697 yang artinya ketuntasan rata-rata hasil belajar siswa setelah pemberian treatment berupa perangkat pembelajaran dengan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Numbered Head Together (NHT)  lebih besar dari KKM sekolah (75). In the conventional learning model, students are required to master the material less active so the effect on student learning outcomes. On the development of learning tools using cooperative learning type numbered head together (NHT), is expected to improve student learning outcomes and students can learn actively. The method used is research development using the R & D. Steps in the development of research have 7 stages namely (1) the stage of potential and problems; (2) the stage of data collection; (3) the product design stage; (4) design validation phase; (5) the stage of design revisions; (6 ) phase of product testing; (7) the stage of product revision. The tests showed that the study peripheral used with mind mapping teaching methods otherwise well, with details as follows: (1) Silabus 78.35%, (2) RPP 76.67%, (3) LKS 78%, (4) LP.Pengetahuan of 74.25%, (5) LP. Proses dan psikomotor 73.86%, and (6) 79.69% teaching materials. It can be concluded that all the instruments developed in the study peripheral is valid and worth using. Classical learning completeness percentage of 90.91% and the average value of class 82.43, which means mastery learning classical complete. Meanwhile, if viewed from the t test known that t for 7.775 where the value is greater t be compared to the table for 1697, which means completeness student learning outcomes after the treatment is a cooperative learning type numbered head together (NHT) is greater than KKM (75) Keywords : Study Peripheral, NHT, R&
