    A Comparative Assessment of Multi-view fusion learning for Crop Classification

    With a rapidly increasing amount and diversity of remote sensing (RS) data sources, there is a strong need for multi-view learning modeling. This is a complex task when considering the differences in resolution, magnitude, and noise of RS data. The typical approach for merging multiple RS sources has been input-level fusion, but other - more advanced - fusion strategies may outperform this traditional approach. This work assesses different fusion strategies for crop classification in the CropHarvest dataset. The fusion methods proposed in this work outperform models based on individual views and previous fusion methods. We do not find one single fusion method that consistently outperforms all other approaches. Instead, we present a comparison of multi-view fusion methods for three different datasets and show that, depending on the test region, different methods obtain the best performance. Despite this, we suggest a preliminary criterion for the selection of fusion methods.Comment: Accepted at IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 202

    Fish Abundance In South Poigar Rivermouth South Minahasa

    The objective of the study is to know the fish individual abundance and biomass in the mouth of Poigar River. The study employed swept area method, sampling was done at high tide and low tide of a new moon and full moon phase using a beach seine. The seine covered 2700 m2 at low tide and 900 m2 at high tide. The fish catches in both moon phases and tidal conditions consisted of 40 species of 25 families and 481 individuals. Total fish weight was 3,804 g. The individual abundance in the new moon was 0.0004/m2 – 0.1200/m2, and the biomass in the new moon was 0.0002 g/m2 – 0.5044 g/m2. The individual abundance in full moon was 0.0004/m2 – 0.0622/m2, and the biomass in full moon was 0.0002 g/m2-0.4017 g/m2. As a whole, both individual abundance and biomass in new moon and full moon at were 0.3922g/m2  and 2.7778 g/m2, respectively.Keywords: abundance, biomass, river poigar.AbstrakTujuan penelitian yaitu untuk mengetahui kelimpahan individu dan biomassa penelitian ini menggunakan metode (swept area), pengambilan sampel dilakukan saat air surut dan air pasang pada fase bulan baru dan bulan purnama dengan menggunakan pukat pantai.     Fast, Autonomous Flight in GPS-Denied and Cluttered Environments

    One of the most challenging tasks for a flying robot is to autonomously navigate between target locations quickly and reliably while avoiding obstacles in its path, and with little to no a-priori knowledge of the operating environment. This challenge is addressed in the present paper. We describe the system design and software architecture of our proposed solution, and showcase how all the distinct components can be integrated to enable smooth robot operation. We provide critical insight on hardware and software component selection and development, and present results from extensive experimental testing in real-world warehouse environments. Experimental testing reveals that our proposed solution can deliver fast and robust aerial robot autonomous navigation in cluttered, GPS-denied environments.Comment: Pre-peer reviewed version of the article accepted in Journal of Field Robotic

    As in Hungary now in Poland? Assessing the states of democracy in Hungary and Poland as 'lands in-between' democracy and autocracy

    The European Commission filed infringement procedures against both its member states Hungary and Poland, addressing recent, highly controversial legislation passed by the respective governments. Both governing parties declared similar prosperities towards illiberal democracies. Such an illiberal turn is not unique to these countries, it is rather a global trend with the decay of democracy being evident in all regions of the world. Thus, the regimes turning away from democracy towards autocracy are subjects to numerous scientific debates. Wolfgang Merkel developed the concept of defective democracies to conceptualise the a grey zonea between both regime types. This thesis will assess and categorise the states of democracy of Hungary and Poland in accordance to this concept. Furthermore, this thesis will formulate a prognosis on whether and how FIDESZ and PiS might continue with reforms changing their countrya s polity and discuss possible mechanisms the EU can pursue to intervene within the transformation processes

    Ectomycorrhizal fungal communities are dominated by mammalian dispersed truffle-like taxa in north-east Australian woodlands

    Mycorrhizal fungi are very diverse, including those that produce truffle-like fruiting bodies. Truffle-like fungi are hypogeous and sequestrate (produced below-ground, with an enclosed hymenophore) and rely on animal consumption, mainly by mammals, for spore dispersal. This dependence links mycophagous mammals to mycorrhizal diversity and, assuming truffle-like fungi are important components of mycorrhizal communities, to plant nutrient cycling and ecosystem health. These links are largely untested as currently little is known about mycorrhizal fungal community structure and its dependence on mycophagous mammals. We quantified the mycorrhizal fungal community in the north-east Australian woodland, including the portion interacting with ten species of mycophagous mammals. The study area is core habitat of an endangered fungal specialist marsupial, Bettongia tropica, and as such provides baseline data on mycorrhizal fungi-mammal interactions in an area with no known mammal declines. We examined the mycorrhizal fungi in root and soil samples via high-throughput sequencing and compared the observed taxa to those dispersed by mycophagous mammals at the same locations. We found that the dominant root-associating ectomycorrhizal fungal taxa (> 90% sequence abundance) included the truffle-like taxa Mesophellia, Hysterangium and Chondrogaster. These same taxa were also present in mycophagous mammalian diets, with Mesophellia often dominating. Altogether, 88% of truffle-like taxa from root samples were shared with the fungal specialist diet and 52% with diets from generalist mammals. Our data suggest that changes in mammal communities, particularly the loss of fungal specialists, could, over time, induce reductions to truffle-like fungal diversity, causing ectomycorrhizal fungal communities to shift with unknown impacts on plant and ecosystem health
