A Genetic Algorithm for Power-Aware Virtual Machine Allocation in Private Cloud
Energy efficiency has become an important measurement of scheduling algorithm
for private cloud. The challenge is trade-off between minimizing of energy
consumption and satisfying Quality of Service (QoS) (e.g. performance or
resource availability on time for reservation request). We consider resource
needs in context of a private cloud system to provide resources for
applications in teaching and researching. In which users request computing
resources for laboratory classes at start times and non-interrupted duration in
some hours in prior. Many previous works are based on migrating techniques to
move online virtual machines (VMs) from low utilization hosts and turn these
hosts off to reduce energy consumption. However, the techniques for migration
of VMs could not use in our case. In this paper, a genetic algorithm for
power-aware in scheduling of resource allocation (GAPA) has been proposed to
solve the static virtual machine allocation problem (SVMAP). Due to limited
resources (i.e. memory) for executing simulation, we created a workload that
contains a sample of one-day timetable of lab hours in our university. We
evaluate the GAPA and a baseline scheduling algorithm (BFD), which sorts list
of virtual machines in start time (i.e. earliest start time first) and using
best-fit decreasing (i.e. least increased power consumption) algorithm, for
solving the same SVMAP. As a result, the GAPA algorithm obtains total energy
consumption is lower than the baseline algorithm on simulated experimentation.Comment: 10 page

Investigating the properties of the ZIP4 M3M4 domain in the presence and absence of zinc
Zinc is the second most abundant transition metal in biological systems. This cation is required for the catalytic activity of hundreds of enzymes which mediate protein synthesis, DNA replication and cell division. Despite the central importance of zinc in cellular homeostasis, the mechanism of zinc uptake, compartmentalization and efflux is unknown. Recently, a family of proteins, called ZIP, has been shown to control zinc uptake. Mutations in one of the genes coding for these proteins (ZIP4) can lead to potentially life-threatening diseases like Acrodermatitis Enteropathica and high levels of ZIP4 have been detected in patients suffering from pancreatic cancer. Therefore our goal is to investigate the mechanism of ZIP4 transport and regulation. It was previously shown that the intracellular loop between transmembrane III and IV (M3M4) of ZIP4 is ubiquitinated in the presence of high intracellular zinc which lead to protein degradation. Our initial hypothesis was that the large intracellular domain of ZIP4 (M3M4) is a sensor which detects the intracellular concentration of zinc and regulates the surface expression of ZIP4. In order to test this hypothesis we expressed and purified the M3M4 domain to examine the ability of M3M4 to bind zinc. Our results have demonstrated that M3M4 binds zinc with a 2:1 zinc:protein stoichiometry with nanomolar affinity. We have also shown that upon binding of zinc, M3M4 undergoes a large conformational change
RECYCLABLE ENZYMES IN THE BIODIESEL PRODUCTION FROM SOYBEAN OIL
The process of biodiesel production from soybean oil using Lipozyme TL IM, a 1, 3-position specific lipase from Thermomyces lanuginosus, was used to study the activity of the lipase when crosslinked to magnetic iron (III) oxide nanoparticles. Enzymatic transesterification of biodiesel is expensive but by crosslinking the enzymes to the nanoparticles, the enzymes can be recycled and reused. The enzyme-nanoparticle (ENP) complexes can be immobilized out of the reaction simply by using a magnetic bar. Our preliminary results showed that the recyclable enzyme-nanoparticle complexes were promising in enzymatic transesterification of soybean oil toward biodiesel with comparable activity to the free lipase
The correlation between learning styles and self–directed learning of fifth graders
Vietnam education has been directed into a learner-centered approach and fostering competencies for students, especially self-directed learning. Thus, understanding how students’ learning styles impact self-directed learning are crucial for the new direction of Vietnam education. This research employed the survey method by questionnaire and presents the results of practical research on the correlation between styles of learning and self–directed learning of fifth-grade students at elementary schools in District 10, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The sample was 364 fifth graders voluntarily participating in the survey with the consent of parents. The results indicated that learning styles are strongly correlated with self–directed learning competency of fifth graders. The data revealed that students at District 10 not only attained high self-directed learning levels but also their learning styles attributing impactfully on their self-directed learning competency
