    'The controversy in the Anglican Church around homosexuality within the priesthood is considered in terms of the kind of world-view held by an important faction of those in opposition. An example of research into the world-view of Charismatic Christians running an Anglican outreach project in the UK is taken to gain insight into the world-wide Evangelical Charismatic resurgence. Parallels are drawn with the position taken by the Southern hemisphere Anglicans and it is argued that this opposition is unlikely to be yielding to the secularising influences of pluralistic industrialised societies. Robertson (1985) proposes that religious forms in differentiated societies, such as Charismatic Evangelicalism, draw strength from global integration. It is argued that this thesis is relevant to understanding the nature of divisions within Anglicanism as these world-wide factions cut across and divide a broad church. That the world contains varying conditions of secularisation and counter-secularisation (Berger, 1999) places additional and intolerable strain on a world-wide communion that tries to embrace a plurality.'Charismatic Evangelicalism; Church Of England; Counter-secularisation; Globalisation; Secularisation.

The project mapped land use/cover classifications from LANDSAT computer compatible tape data and combined those results with other multisource data via computer mapping/compositing techniques to analyze various land use planning/natural resource management problems. Data were analyzed on 1:24,000 scale maps at 1.1 acre resolution. LANDSAT analysis software and linkages with other computer mapping software were developed. Significant results were also achieved in training, communication, and identification of needs for developing the LANDSAT/computer mapping technologies into operational tools for use by decision makers

    Propositionalisation of multiple sequence alignments using probabilistic models

    Multiple sequence alignments play a central role in Bioinformatics. Most alignment representations are designed to facilitate knowledge extraction by human experts. Additionally statistical models like Profile Hidden Markov Models are used as representations. They offer the advantage to provide sound, probabilistic scores. The basic idea we present in this paper is to use the structure of a Profile Hidden Markov Model for propositionalisation. This way we get a simple, extendable representation of multiple sequence alignments which facilitates further analysis by Machine Learning algorighms

    Simulation of the shape memory effect in a NiTi nano model system

    The shape memory behavior of a NiTi nanoparticle is analyzed by molecular dynamics simulations. After a detailed description of the equilibrium structures of the used model potential, the multi variant martensitic ground state, which depends on the geometry of the particle, is discussed. Tensile load is applied, changing the variant configuration to a single domain state with a remanent strain after unloading. Heating the particle leads to a shape memory effect without a phase transition to the austenite, but by variant reorientation and twin boundary formation at a certain temperature. These processes are described by stress-strain and strain-temperature curves, together with a visualization of the microstructure of the nanoparticle. Results are presented for five different Ni concentrations in the vicinity of 50%, showing for example, that small deviations from this ideal composition can influence the critical temperature for shape recovery significantly.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures; accepted for publication in the "Journal of Alloys and Compounds

    The effect of cyanoacrylate fuming on subsequent protein stain enhancement of fingermarks in blood

    This study investigates the effect of cyanoacrylate (CA) fuming, at atmospheric and vacuum conditions, on subsequent protein stain (acid violet 17) enhancement of fingermarks in blood. Fingermark depletions in blood were deposited on three nonporous surfaces (e.g., plastic bag) and aged for a set period of time (up to 28 days) before enhancement with the water-ethanol-acetic acid and methanol formulations of acid violet 17 (AV17). All trials were carried out in duplicate. One depletion was pre-treated with CA fuming followed by the enhancement technique and the other depletion was treated with only the enhancement technique (control).As expected, atmospheric CA fuming hindered the subsequent enhancement of blood with the AV17 water-ethanol-acetic acid formulation but not the methanol formulation. The same observations were also recorded under vacuum CA fuming conditions. Preliminary work with vacuum metal deposition did not hinder subsequent AV17 protein stain enhancement with either formulation
