En esta comunicación se reflexiona sobre la docencia de la asignatura “Escenografía” en la Facultad de Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Málaga. Esta asignatura enmarcada en el área de Escultura intenta cuestionar el proceso de creación artística de un espacio escenográfico facilitando una formación activa y manteniendo unas propuestas que desarrollen el espíritu investigador y experimental tanto a nivel formal como conceptual del alumnado, partiendo de la obra literaria “Historias de cronopios y famas” de Julio Cortázar. El planteamiento de esta asignatura busca generar un espacio formativo que motive la investigación y creatividad del alumnado y promueva la búsqueda de nuevas alternativas expresivas y simbólicas en el diseño y creación de espacios escenográficos.Universidad de Málaga. Ionic behavior assessment of surface-active compounds from corn steep liquor by exchange resins

Depending on their ionic nature, biosurfactants can be classified as nonionic, anionic, cationic, or amphoteric. The ionic behavior of biosurfactants is an important characteristic that dictates their use in industrial applications. In this work, a biosurfactant extract obtained from corn steep liquor was subjected to anionic or cationic resins, in order to study the ionic behavior under different operational conditions using response surface methodology. The independent variables included in the study are the dilution of biosurfactant solution, the amount of cationic or anionic resin, and the extraction time, whereas the dependent variables studied consisted of the surface tension of biosurfactant aqueous solution, after contacting with anionic or cationic resin. The results showed that biosurfactant extracted from corn steep liquor is amphoteric, since both resins were able to entrap this biosurfactant, making it particularly suited for use in personal care preparations for sensitive skin.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Enhancing Coexistence in the Unlicensed Band with Massive MIMO

We consider cellular base stations (BSs) equipped with a large number of antennas and operating in the unlicensed band. We denote such system as massive MIMO unlicensed (mMIMO-U). We design the key procedures required to guarantee coexistence between a cellular BS and nearby Wi-Fi devices. These include: neighboring Wi-Fi channel covariance estimation, allocation of spatial degrees of freedom for interference suppression, and enhanced channel sensing and data transmission phases. We evaluate the performance of the so-designed mMIMO-U, showing that it allows simultaneous cellular and Wi-Fi transmissions by keeping their mutual interference below the regulatory threshold. The same is not true for conventional listen-before-talk (LBT) operations. As a result, mMIMO-U boosts the aggregate cellular-plus-Wi-Fi data rate in the unlicensed band with respect to conventional LBT, exhibiting increasing gains as the number of BS antennas grows.Comment: To appear in Proc. Las agencias de comunicación son empresas que se mueven en el terreno de las relaciones públicas, la publicidad, la comunicación audiovisual y el periodismo. Estas empresas deberían ser líderes en el uso de las nuevas herramientas de comunicación. En este artículo se han estudiado las agencias de comunicación que más facturan en España para comprobar si, efectivamente, hacen un buen uso de las nuevas tecnologías de la comunicación, especialmente de las redes sociales. Hemos descubierto que las empresas aquí estudiadas deberían tener más actividad en redes sociales y en el mundo online en general. No crean contenidos específicos para sus diferentes redes, consiguen poco feedback por parte de sus seguidores, si bien es cierto que todas tienen perfiles en Facebook, Twitter, además de blogs

Coffee consumption and cardiovascular disease: A condensed review of epidemiological evidence and mechanisms

The definitive version was published in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry on 66.21 (2018): 5257-5263, DOI: http://doi.org/10.1021/acs.jafc.7b04506"Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages, and some studies have suggested it may be related to cardiovascular disease (CVD), the leading cause of poor health in the world. This review evaluates the evidence on the effect of habitual coffee consumption on CVD incidence and mortality. The review is based mostly on observational studies and meta-analyses of the literature. In healthy people, in comparison to not consuming coffee, habitual consumption of 3–5 cups of coffee per day is associated with a 15% reduction in the risk of CVD, and higher consumption has not been linked to elevated CVD risk. Moreover, in comparison to no coffee intake, usual consumption of 1–5 cups/day is associated with a lower risk of death. In people who have already suffered a CVD event, habitual consumption does not increase the risk of a recurrent CVD or death. However, hypertensive patients with uncontrolled blood pressure should avoid consuming large doses of caffeine. In persons with well-controlled blood pressure, coffee consumption is probably safe, but this hypothesis should be confirmed by further investigation
