Classification of the EU countries labour markets

    Get PDF
The objective of the paper is to classify the labour markets of the EU member states on the basis of selected employment and unemployment indicators. In order to achieve the study target, the adequate multivariate exploration procedures have been chosen. In the first part of processing original data, principal component analysis (PCA) was employed. PCA is a multivariate statistical procedure used to reduce the number of observed variables into a smaller number of uncorrelated variables with a minimum loss of information. Moreover, the PCA results can be used for effective ranking of the EU countries according to observed indicators of labour markets. This paper describes the crucial steps in PCA and procedure for ranking mentioned and it reviews how PCA-based statistics are constructed and interpreted. The results of the study have demonstrated the range of application and advantages of the multivariate statistical approaches represented in this paper.Classification, employment, unemployment, principal component analysis, cluster, International Development, Public Economics, Research Methods/ Statistical Methods, GA, IN,

Managing atrial fibrillation in the global community: The European perspective.

    Get PDF
Atrial fibrillation is a common, global problem, with great personal, economic and social burdens. As populations age it increases in prevalence and becomes another condition that requires careful chronic management to ensure its effects are minimised. Assessment of the risk of stroke using well established risk prediction models is being aided by modern computerised databases and the choice of drugs to prevent strokes is ever expanding to try and improve the major cause of morbidity in AF. In addition, newer drugs for controlling rhythm are available and guidelines are constantly changing to reflect this. As well as medications, modern techniques of electrophysiology are becoming more widely embraced worldwide to provide more targeted treatment for the underlying pathophysiology. In this review we consider these factors to concisely describe how AF can be successfully managed

Information and communication technology use continuance behavioral intention: Differential effect based on socio-economic status

    Get PDF
In the global information society, the importance of the Internet cannot be overemphasized. Unfortunately, a case in point is Africa, where, as per 2017 statistics, only 9.4 % of the population use the Internet [25]. While tremendous efforts have been made to address global Internet penetration, recent studies and statistics still indicate the digital inequality still exists today (Yu et al, 2016) and it prevents some individuals to benefit from the digital opportunities. The aim of this paper is to understand the difference in Internet use continuance by people of different economic status. The finding showed that satisfaction is the strongest precursor for Internet use continuance and it affects stronger the socio-economically advantaged groups than the socio-economically disadvantaged people. The results imply that different strategies should be adopted to bridge the digital inequality basis of socio-economic status more specifically income levels

A comparative study on Mental Health Knowledge Based on Socioeconomic Status in Kisumu Kenya 2019

    Get PDF
Studies show that people who live in rural Kenya have more positive attitudes toward mental illnesses than people in urban areas. They also had more mental health knowledge. One of the differentiating factors between the two environments is the socioeconomic status of those who live in each area. People in rural areas tend to be of lower socioeconomic status, while those living in urban areas tend to be of a higher socioeconomic status. I wanted to see if the previous findings would be observed if we were looking at people in the same area (strictly urban or rural) with the only difference being the income level. I found that there was no significant difference in stigma, satisfaction and knowledge scores between low and high SES participants. Despite this, there were differences in how each group defined mental illness. Further research needs to be conducted with a better study design to find more concrete results
