Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals can be exploited to remotely sense atmosphere and land and ocean surface to retrieve a range of geophysical parameters. This paper proposes two new methods, termed as power-summation of differential Delay-Doppler Maps (PS-D) and pixel-number of differential Delay-Doppler Maps (PN-D), to distinguish between sea ice and sea water using differential Delay-Doppler Maps (dDDMs). PS-D and PN-D make use of power-summation and pixel-number of dDDMs, respectively, to measure the degree of difference between two DDMs so as to determine the transition state (water-water, water-ice, ice-ice and ice-water) and hence ice and water are detected. Moreover, an adaptive incoherent averaging of DDMs is employed to improve the computational efficiency. A large number of DDMs recorded by UK TechDemoSat-1 (TDS-1) over the Arctic region are used to test the proposed sea ice detection methods. Through evaluating against ground-truth measurements from the Ocean Sea Ice SAF, the proposed PS-D and PN-D methods achieve a probability of detection of 99.72% and 99.69% respectively, while the probability of false detection is 0.28% and 0.31% respectively

    Image Processing Using Dataflow Techniques

Corner detection is an important task in digital image processing. Corner detection algorithms are widely used in pattern recognition, image mosaicing, motion detection, etc. The implementations of such algorithm in software/hardware can be challenging. One classical algorithm for finding corners in images is proposed by Harris and Stephens in 1988, commonly known as Harris corner detection algorithm; There have been different implementations of the algorithm in OpenCV and on FPGA. The implementations of the algorithm in hardware have been relatively less, and most importantly the architectures of the algorithm on FPGA have relatively been unexplored. LIDE, created at University of Maryland, College Park, is a light-weight dataflow environment for rapid prototyping of DSP systems using dataflow techniques. The framework in C programming language is called LIDE-C, in Verilog HDL is called LIDE-V. This light-weight framework makes modeling of DSPs easy in both software and hardware. It is platform- and language-agnostic. This thesis work models the application both in LIDE-C and LIDE-V, our emphasis is, however, to propose multi-architecture corner detection Harris algorithm in LIDE-V. In LIDE, computations are distributed to different computation nodes in dataflow graphs. Each node is called actor in LIDE, and each actor has different modes of computation. Depending on how we construct a dataflow graph for an application and how we design actors of a dataflow graph, we easily create different implementations for the same algorithm. In this thesis, different hardware architecture of the Harris algorithm will be proposed with different latency, resource usage, and throughput characteristics. Our preliminary results reveal, among other things, that unfolding for the non-max suppression actor not only improve performance but also decrease resource usage

Research on the Financial Sustainable Growth of the Listed Companies on GEM

Currently high risk assumed by a listed company on GEM makes numerous operators, investors and creditors pay close attention to the sustainable growth ability of an enterprise. In view of this, this paper makes an empirical analysis on the current status of the financial sustainable growth of the listed companies on GEM and the main factors that might affect their sustainable growth separately through the Wilcoxon signed ranks test and the factor analysis. The research result turns out that the listed companies on GEM have failed to achieve the financial sustainable growth with its actual growth rate greater than the sustainable growth rate to indicate an excessive growth. Meanwhile since the factors that influence the enterprise sustainable growth include the profitability, the cash-generating ability, the debt paying ability, the operation capacity and the growth ability, then the managers should take the following measures to achieve the financial sustainable growth of the enterprise through the cost control, the reinforcement of cash management, the cultivation of core competence, the optimization of the capital structure and the enhancement of the management level etc. Key words: Listed companies on GEM; Financial sustainable growth; Empirical analysi

A centering correction method for GNSS antenna diversity theory and implementation using a software receiver

GPS is performing well in open sky situation. However, severe attenuation or blockage of signals by high buildings may leads to an insufficient number of received satellites. Antenna diversity scheme is viewed as a method to alleviate signal attenuation and enhance the performance of GNSS positioning in the harsh environments. This paper introduces an antenna diversity system, composed of two spatially separated antennas. If relative geometry of two antennas is known, the carrier phase measurement outputs from these two antennas can be combined with Centering Correction Method (CCM). Even each antenna may not able to acquire more than four satellites this antenna diversity system can still precisely estimate each antenna’s location with centimeter-level accuracy, as long as the sum of the captured satellites by two separate antennas is no less than four
