Politische Gefangenschaft in der DDR. Wechselwirkungen zwischen dem öffentlichen Umgang und den biografischen Erinnerungen

Between 1976 and 1989, about 60,000 East German citizens were in political detention in the former GDR, a fact which was disclaimed by the GDR government. In this article, I focus on the auto-biographies which were collected by the use of narrative interviews. How do people who were politically persecuted and imprisoned remember their detainment now? Are they able to integrate this event in their life history and talk about it in their social environment? On the basis of biographical case-reconstructions and global analysis, I present four types of memory and biographical work. The analysis shows that the limited reprocessing prior to 1989 as well as the political discourse after 1990 about the GDR past produced a politicization of their imprisonment by the biographers, for example, in the construction of their identity as a political opponent. En este articulo, me centro en autobiografías que fueron recolectadas mediante el uso de entrevistas narrativas. ¿Cómo la gente que fue perseguida y aprisionada políticamente recuerda su arresto ahora?, ¿Son capaces de integrar este evento a su historia de vida y hablar de él en su entorno social? Sobre la base de la reconstrucción biográfica del caso y un análisis global, presento cuatro tipos de memoria y trabajo biográfico. El análisis muestra que el limitado reprocesamiento previo a 1989 así como el discurso político después de 1990 sobre el pasado de la RDA, produjo una politización de su encarcelamiento por los biógrafos, por ejemplo, en la construcción de su identidad como oponente político. In diesem Artikel werden Erinnerungen von Biografinnen und Biografen daran in den Mittelpunkt gestellt, die mittels narrativer Interviews erhoben wurden. Wie erinnern sich gegenwärtig die Menschen, die politisch verfolgt und inhaftiert wurden, an die Haftzeit? Inwiefern können sie dieses Ereignis in ihre Biografie integrieren und in ihrem sozialen Umfeld thematisieren? Anhand von biografischen Fallrekonstruktionen und Globalanalysen stelle ich vier Formen des Erinnerns bzw. der biografischen Arbeit vor. Die Analysen zeigen, dass sowohl die eingeschränkte Aufarbeitung bis 1989 als auch die politische Auseinandersetzung mit DDR-Unrecht nach 1990 zu einer Politisierung der eigenen Haft bei den Biografinnen und Biografen führten, die beispielsweise in der Konstruktion einer opponenten Biografie zum Ausdruck kommt. Adaptive Mesh Refinement Computation of Solidification Microstructures using Dynamic Data Structures

We study the evolution of solidification microstructures using a phase-field model computed on an adaptive, finite element grid. We discuss the details of our algorithm and show that it greatly reduces the computational cost of solving the phase-field model at low undercooling. In particular we show that the computational complexity of solving any phase-boundary problem scales with the interface arclength when using an adapting mesh. Moreover, the use of dynamic data structures allows us to simulate system sizes corresponding to experimental conditions, which would otherwise require lattices greater that $2^{17}\times 2^{17}$ elements. We examine the convergence properties of our algorithm. We also present two dimensional, time-dependent calculations of dendritic evolution, with and without surface tension anisotropy. We benchmark our results for dendritic growth with microscopic solvability theory, finding them to be in good agreement with theory for high undercoolings. At low undercooling, however, we obtain higher values of velocity than solvability theory at low undercooling, where transients dominate, in accord with a heuristic criterion which we derive
