Educators on the Move: An Applied Study of Literature-based Solutions for Teacher Migration within an Exclusive Urban School District

    Get PDF
The purpose of this applied study was to solve the problem of teacher migration to other school districts for a single urban school district located in the Southeast region of the United States. Specific interventions were recommended to address the problem through the utilization of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs as well as literature-based solutions. A multimethod approach was applied to strengthen the study by examining the problem of teacher migration from different perspectives. This approach, which involved teacher interviews, focus groups, quantitative surveys, and document trend studies, gave a multi-dimensional depiction of teacher migration in the district. Interviews with five previously employed teachers and two focus groups of seven administrators were conducted. Along with the interviews and focus groups, 18 additional teachers completed a quantitative survey. Trend studies for the district were also analyzed to discover if certain schools or school levels have a higher rate of teacher turnover. Outcomes and practical recommendations were identified

The Effectiveness of Involuntary Dissolution Suits as a Remedy for Close Corporation Dissension

Intra-corporate dissension between shareholders in a close corporation that can lead to serious deadlock, corporate paralysis and attempted squeeze-outs or other oppressive action is well documented. The purpose of this article is to discuss the available remedies for dealing with this dissension, placing particular emphasis on involuntary dissolution suits, since historically such suits have been the most common litigation remedy used by aggrieved shareholders. The basic conclusion reached is that for the most part judges have done a commendable job of balancing the expectation interests of minority shareholders against the inherent voting and management rights of majority shareholders, and of fashioning appropriate and innovative remedies to deal with oppression and other wrongful conduct. A second major conclusion is that statutory provisions which specifically authorize relief other than dissolution greatly enhance the probability that a judge will order an effective remedy in close corporation dissension litigation

CPT-conserving Hamiltonians and their nonlinear supersymmetrization using differential charge-operators C

A brief overview is given of recent developments and fresh ideas at the intersection of PT and/or CPT-symmetric quantum mechanics with supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM). We study the consequences of the assumption that the "charge" operator C is represented in a differential-operator form. Besides the freedom allowed by the Hermiticity constraint for the operator CP, encouraging results are obtained in the second-order case. The integrability of intertwining relations proves to match the closure of nonlinear SUSY algebra. In an illustration, our CPT-symmetric SUSY QM leads to non-Hermitian polynomial oscillators with real spectrum which turn out to be PT-asymmetric.Comment: 25 page
