Academic Leadership on Faculty Performance
In this article, we will provide a comprehensive approach for a yearly faculty performance evaluation report which includes the following components: (1) establishing a Yearly Faculty Performance Evaluation Plan (FPEP); (2) conducting a mid-year faculty self progress report; (3) creating a mid-year faculty progress evaluation report; (4) making a mid-year adjustment of the performance evaluation plan; (5) creating an end of the year faculty self-evaluation report; (6) conducting an end of the year faculty performance evaluation report
On the Catalysis of the Electroweak Vacuum Decay by Black Holes at High Temperature
We study the effect of primordial black holes on the classical rate of
nucleation of AdS regions within the standard electroweak vacuum at high
temperature. We find that the energy barrier for transitions to the new vacuum,
which determines the exponential suppression of the nucleation rate, can be
reduced significantly, or even eliminated completely, in the black-hole
background if the Standard Model Higgs is coupled to gravity through the
renormalizable term .Comment: LaTeX file, 15 pages, 5 figure
Preparing Students for the College Experience
Preparing students for College life and most importantly for life beyond high school is a key challenge for many educators and secondary education institutions. Above all, today more than ever, educators must prepare students for the unknown and the unpredictable; careers not yet known to us, opportunities that we can not imagine, and for a world so different that we have no idea what it will look like in thirty or forty years. Hence some of the questions that arise are as follows: what shall we teach our students? What skills do we expect them to develop; and which processes shall we help them cultivate? We (Gialamas and Pelonis) believe that the answers deriving from the teachings of the ancient Greeks, are encompassed in the concept of “Morfosis”
Morphosis Leadership Being visionaries in a changing world
Living in a rapidly evolving society where change occurs continuously and on multiple levels, has created a need, more than ever before, for leadership that reflects this new reality. The changes in demographics, the forming of multicultural families, the diversity on an economic, educational, social and ethnic level, as well as the further rise of multinational corporations are all changes that are challenging traditional values and principles. Thus the quest for Authentic Leadership is rising, and it is an idea which implies that leadership is very personal. Why Authentic leadership? One might ask. Because, “there is evidence of the desire for authenticity all around us in popular culture”. (Goffee & Jones, 2006, p.3
ADAPTION AND PSYCHOMETRIC PROPERTIES OF THE SHORT FORMS MARLOWE-CROWNE SOCIAL DESIRABILITY SCALE WITH A SAMPLE OF GREEK UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Nowadays more and more self-report measures are used in social psychology, where many of them are susceptible to response biases. Socially Desirable Responding (SDR) might be interpreted in terms of response biases. The present study, with a sample of 173 Greek university students, used confirmatory factor analysis to establish the adequacy of Reynolds (1982) three forms from the original 33 item version of Crowne & Marlowe (1960) in measuring social desirability. Results showed that the three short forms of social desirability scale provide satisfactory measures of social desirability, while the form with the smaller number of items presented improved measures in comparison to all other forms. Article visualizations
Bimetric Starobinsky model
The bimetric theory of gravity is an extension of general relativity that
describes a massive spin- particle in addition to the standard massless
graviton. The theory is based on two dynamical metric tensors with their
interactions constrained by requiring the absence of the so-called
Boulware-Deser ghost. It has been realized that the quantum interactions of
matter fields with gravity are bound to generate modifications to the standard
Einstein-Hilbert action such as quadratic curvature terms. Such a quadratic
Ricci scalar term is present in the so-called Starobinsky model which has been
proven to be rather robust in its inflationary predictions. In the present
article we study a generalization of the Starobinsky model within the bimetric
theory and find that its inflationary behavior stays intact while keeping all
consistency requirements of the bimetric framework. The interpretation of the
massive spin-2 particle as dark matter remains a viable scenario, as in
standard bigravity.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, title slightly edited, matches published versio
Investigation of the Statistical Anxiety Rating Scale Psychometric Properties with a Sample of Greek Students
The purpose of this study was to adapt the Statistics Anxiety Rating Scale (STARS) for a Greek student population. The STARS was administered to 890 Tertiary Education students in two Greek universities. It was performed a cross-validation study to examine the factorial structure and the psychometric properties with a series of confirmatory factor analyses. Results revealed a correlated six first-order factor model which provided the best fit to the data compared to a six-factor model with one superordinate factor. All six factors of the Greek version of the STARS presented convergent and discriminant validity and were internally consistent. Implications and limitations are discussed
Bimetric-Affine Quadratic Gravity
Bimetric gravity, is a theory of gravity that posits the existence of two
interacting and dynamical metric tensors. The spectrum of bimetric gravity
consists of a massless and a massive spin-2 particle. The form of the
interactions between the two metrics and is
constrained by requiring absence of the so called Boulware-Deser ghost. In this
work we extend the original bimetric theory to its bimetric-affine counterpart,
in which the two connections, associated with the Ricci scalars, are treated as
independent variables. We examine in detail the case of an additional quadratic
in the Ricci scalar curvature term and we find that
this theory is free of ghosts for a wide range of the interaction parameters,
not excluding the possibility of a Dark Matter interpretation of the massive
spin-2 particle.Comment: matches version to be published in PR
