    Despite posing a significant public health threat, sleep disorders remain poorly understood and often underdiagnosed and mismanaged. Although sleep disorders are seemingly unrelated, hand surgeons should be mindful of these because numerous conditions of the upper extremity have known associations with sleep disturbances that can adversely affect patient function and satisfaction. In addition, patients with sleep disorders are at significantly higher risk for severe, even life-threatening medical comorbidities, further amplifying the role of hand surgeons in the recognition of this condition

    The future of spaceborne altimetry. Oceans and climate change: A long-term strategy

    The ocean circulation and polar ice sheet volumes provide important memory and control functions in the global climate. Their long term variations are unknown and need to be understood before meaningful appraisals of climate change can be made. Satellite altimetry is the only method for providing global information on the ocean circulation and ice sheet volume. A robust altimeter measurement program is planned which will initiate global observations of the ocean circulation and polar ice sheets. In order to provide useful data about the climate, these measurements must be continued with unbroken coverage into the next century. Herein, past results of the role of the ocean in the climate system is summarized, near term goals are outlined, and requirements and options are presented for future altimeter missions. There are three basic scientific objectives for the program: ocean circulation; polar ice sheets; and mean sea level change. The greatest scientific benefit will be achieved with a series of dedicated high precision altimeter spacecraft, for which the choice of orbit parameters and system accuracy are unencumbered by requirements of companion instruments

    Gross output and livestock sales modelling in Spanish extensive farms using PLSR

    The aim of this paper is to model some production variables in extensive livestock farms located in the dehesa ecosystem. We intend to use not only purely economic variables in the construction of the model, but also structural variables in order to identify the characteristics of the farms that have the higher influence. Another objective is to be able to predict these variables at the farm level, using structural variables that are easy to measure. The data used in this work were obtained from a questionnaire survey to the holders/managers of a sample of 69 dehesa farms in Extremadura (SW Spain). The statistical methodology used for the construction of the model was Partial Least Square Regression (PLSR).     A Comprehensive Dust Model Applied to the Resolved Beta Pictoris Debris Disk from Optical to Radio Wavelengths

    We investigate whether varying the dust composition (described by the optical constants) can solve a persistent problem in debris disk modeling--the inability to fit the thermal emission without over-predicting the scattered light. We model five images of the beta Pictoris disk: two in scattered light from HST/STIS at 0.58 microns and HST/WFC3 at 1.16 microns, and three in thermal emission from Spitzer/MIPS at 24 microns, Herschel/PACS at 70 microns, and ALMA at 870 microns. The WFC3 and MIPS data are published here for the first time. We focus our modeling on the outer part of this disk, consisting of a parent body ring and a halo of small grains. First, we confirm that a model using astronomical silicates cannot simultaneously fit the thermal and scattered light data. Next, we use a simple, generic function for the optical constants to show that varying the dust composition can improve the fit substantially. Finally, we model the dust as a mixture of the most plausible debris constituents: astronomical silicates, water ice, organic refractory material, and vacuum. We achieve a good fit to all datasets with grains composed predominantly of silicates and organics, while ice and vacuum are, at most, present in small amounts. This composition is similar to one derived from previous work on the HR 4796A disk. Our model also fits the thermal SED, scattered light colors, and high-resolution mid-IR data from T-ReCS for this disk.     This case study explores the language learners' growing interest to express their shared interest in online-course-providing platforms. This study also inquires into the language learners' new forum called ‚Äúonline community‚ÄĚ and its great influence on smart way teaching-learning process and classroom dynamics, technology enabled lifelong self study mode of learning, subject knowledge, learning centred curriculum, experience centred approach to the learning process, course material and soft/life skills delivered along the course as a value added package. This paper examines the way MOOCs have opened the gate way of learning to all sections of society free of cost with specific language skills focus ‚Äď writing that interests students from all disciplines. This study suggests that the rising generation shows a growing, academic interest in online collaboration on the basis of any subject specific shared interest and this collective interest also addresses the concern about personal experiences with emotive foundation that will not have space in online teaching learning process
