A Modular Mobile Device for Real-Time 3D Streaming

    Get PDF
In recent years, 3D movies and streaming films have become increasingly popular. Even mobile devices, such as mobile phones and tablet computers, are becoming more popular, more powerful and have better multimedia capabilities. Nevertheless, compact mobile devices to broadcast live 3D videos in real time are barely available. In this article, we provide a modular and mobile solution that allows 3D video streaming in real time at 25 frames per second and with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels (720p). As operating system, we use standard hardware components combined with Android. Furthermore, we will describe the restraints of the development, and how they were solved.

Mesa 46: Homo Ludens. Social norms and climate-friendly behavior of adolescents

Adolescents are the decision-makers of the future, and as educational research shows, behaviors, habits, and attitudes established at young age strongly shape behavior in adulthood. Therefore, it is important to understand what factors shape young people’s climate-relevant behavior. In this study, we examine how information about peer behavior affects adolescents’ perception of prevailing social norms and own decision-making. Experimentally, we manipulated whether adolescents received information about other young people’s (lack of) support for climate protection, operationalized as a donation to a CO2 offsetting scheme. We find that empirical expectations shifted for all age groups when the information revealed that peers donated nothing or only small amounts. Donation behavior and the normative assessment, however, changed only in the younger age groups. Our study illustrates the caution that must be exercised when others’ behavior becomes visible or is deliberatively made salient in order to induce behavioral change, especially among young individuals

Between the decades of 1910 and 1940, in the neighborhoods of different Argentine cities, hundreds of popular libraries were founded and obtained the protection of the Protective Commission of Popular Libraries (state agency of the Ministry of Justice and Public Instruction). In this article, we will deal with the different inspection reports that the inspectors of said Commission elaborated from their visits to the popular libraries of the Party of La Plata (Capital of the Province of Buenos Aires) between 1919 and 1945, period of expansion of the city and the number of libraries. Tryin to exceed - without neglecting - the descriptive plan that this type of documentary source can offer us (date of foundation, quantity and quality of books, aspect of library rooms, etc.), we start from the concept of look(s) , which It allows us to attend to the attributions of senses operated by these officials regarding the popular libraries inspected, their neighborhood insertion contexts, their leaders, and their bibliographic material

This article summarizes information from a survey of biomedical scientists, specifically pharmacologists and toxicologists, on the use of laboratory animals and the potential for replacing their use with alternative methods for the development and evaluation of pharmaceutical substances. The majority of those surveyed felt that the alternatives could supplement or complement animal tests, but not replace the tests altogether. However, most favored the use of nonsentient material in safety tests
