Normal Inverse Gaussian Approximation for Arrival Time Difference in Flow-Induced Molecular Communications

In this paper, we consider molecular communications in one-dimensional flow-induced diffusion channels with a perfectly absorbing receiver. In such channels, the random propagation delay until the molecules are absorbed follows an inverse Gaussian (IG) distribution and is referred to as first hitting time. Knowing the distribution for the difference of the first hitting times of two molecules is very important if the information is encoded by a limited set of molecules and the receiver exploits their arrival time and/or order. Hence, we propose a moment matching approximation by a normal inverse Gaussian (NIG) distribution and we derive an expression for the asymptotic tail probability. Numerical evaluations showed that the NIG approximation matches very well with the exact solution obtained by numerical convolution of the IG density functions. Moreover, the asymptotic tail probability outperforms state-of-the-art tail approximations.Comment: This paper has been submitted to IEEE Transactions on Molecular, Biological and Multi-Scale Communication

Search for T-violation in K^+ --> pi^0 mu^+ nu and K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma Decays

The recent progress in search for T-violating transverse muon polarization in the decays K^+ --> pi^0 mu^+ nu and K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma in the on-going experiment E246 at KEK is reported. Стационарные характеристики многоканальной неоднородной системы с FCFS орбитой и пороговым управлением

In the paper we deal with a Markovian queueing system with heterogeneous servers and constant retrial rate. The system operates under a threshold policy. The system is described by quasi-birth-and-death process with infinitesimal matrix depending on the threshold levels. Using a matrix-geometric approach we perform a stationary analysis of the system, derive expressions for the mean performance measures and formulas for optimal threshold levels.В работе рассматривается марковская система массового обслуживания с несколькими неоднородными приборами. Включение приборов производится в соответствии с пороговой политикой управления. Заявки, которые не получили обслуживания, направляются на орбиту, где они через случайное время повторяют попытку занять прибор. Заявки на орбите формируют очередь с FCFS дисциплиной обслуживания. Система описывается обобщённым процессом размножения и гибели с большим числом пограничных состояний. В работе проводится анализ системы в стационарном режиме, выводятся матричные выражения для вычисления средних характеристик производительности системы, а также формулы оптимальных пороговых уровней

Performance of a CsI(Tl) calorimeter in an experiment with stopped K+'s

The performance of the photon detector constructed for the search of T-violation in the decay K^+ -> pi^0 mu^+ nu is presented.
