Metodologia Lean Six Sigma applicata ai Servizi: il caso Ra.De.Co Autocomponenti

    Get PDF

    The Perpetual Harvest

My intention for this project was to create a fantasy setting that, in presenting pieces of itself, from oblique angles, opens up the world to stories and myths beyond those I’ve provided. The foundation is the introductory guide, which details the primary social, economic, and supernatural mechanisms of the setting. The following stories are meant to play off the guide, exploring tones, voices, and plots implied or ignored by its limited perspective. I was heavily inspired by Andrzej Sapkowski’s The Witcher short story collections, which blend the magic and mundane aspects of fantasy beautifully

Celebrity chefs as influencers of food well-being

The concept of being a “celebrity chef” has changed throughout the years. Using Block et al’s (2011) Food Well-Being pinwheel and Lane and Fisher’s (2015) research about celebrity chef influence on a UK student population, this study investigates celebrity chef culture as viewed by Millennials in the U.S. The research explores the potential influence of celebrity chefs as influencers of food culture and food habits, the modern chef’s role as celebrity endorsers for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaigns, and whether perceptions of celebrity chef culture differ between the UK and the U.S. Data collection was through an online survey using Qualtrics sent to the target population of Millennials. Findings indicate higher involvement in a chef’s CSR-based organization was associated with higher ratings of influence. A theoretical contribution was the development of a Celebrity CSR Involvement Classification Scheme

Construction of Bacterial Strains Containing a Plasmid Producing an Opossum-Based Anti-Venom Peptide for Low Cost Production of the Peptide

    Get PDF
A cost-effective therapy for snake bites and other biological toxins could save thousands of lives each year. A low-cost therapy can be achieved using a bacterial host that expresses a peptide that prevents death when administered after exposure to these toxins. A protein expressed in opossums, lethal toxin neutralizing factor (LTNF), provides the animal’s resistance to venom and a variety of other toxins. A small peptide fragment of this protein provides the same lifesaving properties as the full protein sequence. A synthetic copy of this peptide was tested in mice exposed to rattlesnake venom and showed lifesaving potential. The peptide was expressed in E. coli and the feasibility of a lower cost process for producing an anti-venom therapy was shown. Two E. coli strains were constructed: snk1 and snk23. This was accomplished by introducing expression vectors containing the peptide sequence alone or a polypeptide sequence that contains 23 repeats of peptide. Once the bacterial cells were transformed with the antivenom DNA, the peptide was produced in shake flasks and scaled up to 2L fermentations. While confirming the expression of the single peptide is ongoing, the larger polypeptide was expressed and recovered in inclusion bodies

Some dynamic aspects of the distribution of planktonic Foraminifera in the western North Atlantic

Studies of Foraminifera from plankton tows taken during the four seasons of the year at stations in shelf water, slope water, the Gulf Stream, and Sargasso Sea between Cape Cod and Bermuda in the western North Atlantic have shown that the slope waters generally yielded the highest concentrations of Foraminifera at all seasons, with spring and fall being the most productive seasons...

Late Tertiary planktonic foraminifera associated with a basaltic boulder from the mid-Atlantic Ridge

    Get PDF
A dredge haul obtained from the mid-Atlantic Ridge at 22° 56\u27 N, 46° 35\u27 W yielded a consolidated, partially silicified foraminiferal ooze and some frag ments of an apparently altered basalt. The age of the consolidated ooze, determined from its assemblage of planktonic Foraminifera, is late Tertiary and probably late Miocene. The inference is that deposition of the consolidated ooze preceded the extrusion of the basalt, with silicification of the ooze occurring during the periods of extrusion and alteration of the basalt

Development of an Informed Consent Multimedia Tool for Research

    Get PDF
Standard research practice has been to protect the rights of human subjects by providing an informed consent document that explains the study in clear and concise language. The problems inherent in writing this document are considerable and it is not known how effective these documents are in providing information and enhancing understanding about research participation. I have selected a clinical research trial involving older men to illustrate the challenge of providing sufficient information so that a person can make an informed choice. I describe the many human, educational and technological aspects that must be considered in developing an alternative method to the written informed consent process. I have developed a tutorial that can be tested within the clinical trial to compare the differences in informed consent methods. The research community is obligated to improve the informed consent process and these preliminary efforts are worthy of further development

Gladue Courts: Navigating Contradictory Orientations to Rehabilitate and Punish

    Get PDF
This research thesis details a year-long observation and analysis of Gladue (Aboriginal-specific) courts in Toronto from April 2013 – July 2014. The primary focus of this project is the way Gladue courts reconcile and interpret contradictory demands to both rehabilitate and incarcerate Aboriginal peoples in light of legislative and judicial requirements. Utilizing a discourse analysis methodology for observations and transcripts, this thesis sought to analyze how rehabilitation and punishment is conceptualized and implemented in Gladue courts given recent legislative changes. The overall effect is that neo-liberal and paternalist principles are chosen and applied depending on the individual circumstances of the case, with new punitive policies left for the most egregious offenders. This application underlines a law and order policy that is concerned with pragmatic/practical concerns and which leads to a discursive framework that objectifies Aboriginal peoples through racist/colonial conceptions of intrinsic victimization
