    Space station dynamics

Structural dynamic characteristics and responses of the Space Station due to the natural and induced environment are discussed. Problems that are peculiar to the Space Station are also discussed. These factors lead to an overall acceleration environment that users may expect. This acceleration environment can be considered as a loading, as well as a disturbance environment

Non-linear adjustment in law of one price deviations and physical characteristics of goods

At a level of individual goods, heterogeneity of marginal transaction costs, proxied by price-to-weight ratios and stowage factors, explains a large part of the variation in thresholds of no-adjustment and conditional half-lives of law of one price deviations. Prices of heavier more voluminous) goods deviate further before becoming mean-reverting. Moreover, after becoming mean-reverting, prices of heavier goods converge more slowly. Together with measures of pricing power, market size, distance and exchange rate volatility, these factors explain up to 43% of variation in no-adjustment threshold estimates across 52 goods in US-Canada post Bretton Woods monthly CPI data and are robust in a broader 5-country dataset. They open two avenues for the importance of marginal transaction costs in accounting for real exchange rate persistence: through (a) generating persistence in individual real exchange rate components, and (b) accentuating it by the process of aggregation of heterogeneous components (”aggregation bias” of Imbs, et al. 2005).Law of One Price Deviations; Real Exchange Rate Persistence; Non-Linearities; transaction costs; Physical Weight; Physical Volume; Threshold Autregres-sive Models

JSC flight experiment recommendation in support of Space Station robotic operations

The man-tended configuration (MTC) of Space Station Freedom (SSF) provides a unique opportunity to move robotic systems from the laboratory into the mainstream space program. Restricted crew access due to the Shuttle's flight rate, as well as constrained on-orbit stay time, reduces the productivity of a facility dependent on astronauts to perform useful work. A natural tendency toward robotics to perform maintenance and routine tasks will be seen in efforts to increase SSF usefulness. This tendency will provide the foothold for deploying space robots. This paper outlines a flight experiment that will capitalize on the investment in robotic technology made by NASA over the past ten years. The flight experiment described herein provides the technology demonstration necessary for taking advantage of the expected opportunity at MTC. As a context to this flight experiment, a broader view of the strategy developed at the JSC is required. The JSC is building toward MTC by developing a ground-based SSF emulation funded jointly by internal funds, NASA/Code R, and NASA/Code M. The purpose of this ground-based Station is to provide a platform whereby technology originally developed at JPL, LaRC, and GSFC can be integrated into a near flight-like condition. For instance, the Automated Robotic Maintenance of Space Station (ARMSS) project integrates flat targets, surface inspection, and other JPL technologies into a Station analogy for evaluation. Also, ARMSS provides the experimental platform for the Capaciflector from GSPC to be evaluated for its usefulness in performing ORU change out or other tasks where proximity detection is required. The use and enhancement of these ground-based SSF models are planned for use through FY-93. The experimental data gathered from tests in these facilities will provide the basis for the technology content of the proposed flight experiment

Basel Accord and Financial Intermediation: The Impact of Policy

This paper studies loan activity in a context where banks must follow Basel Accord-type rules and acquire financing from households. Loan activity typically decreases when entrepreneurs’ investment returns decline, and we study which type of policy could revigorate an economy in a trough. We find that active monetary policy increases loan volume even when the economy is in good shape; introducing active capital requirement policy can be effective as well if it implies tightening of regulation in bad times. This is performed with an heterogeneous agent economy with occupational choice, financial intermediation and aggregate shocks to the distribution of entrepreneurial returns.bank capital channel, capital requirements, Basel Accord, occupational choice, bankruptcy, credit crunch

What determines European real exchange rates?

    Get PDF
We study a newly constructed panel data set of relative prices of a large number of consumer goods among 31 European countries. We find that there is a substantial and nondiminishing deviation from PPP at all levels of aggregation, even among euro zone members. However, real exchange rates are very closely tied to relative GDP per capita within Europe, both across countries and over time. This relationship is highly robust at all levels of aggregation. We construct a simple two-sector endowment economy model of real exchange rate determination. Simulating the model using the historical relative GDP per capita for each country, we find that for most (but not all) countries there is a very close fit between the actual and simulated real exchange rate.Foreign exchange rates ; Prices ; Econometric models ; Gross domestic product ; International trade ; Purchasing power parity

Oba domy jsou postaveny ze stavebního systému VELOX.Proposed office and apartment buildings are situated in the south-east area of the city of Jihlava Handlovy dvory. Office and apartment buildings are designed as three-storey detached house, flat roof with a single casing. Buildings have rectangle layouts. The Objects are called Object A and Object B. Object A: There are four shops and exchange station in the 1st floor. In the second floor there are situated 4 apartments consisting of two rooms and a house cellar. The third floor is of the same pattern as the second one (again 4 apartments consisting of two rooms and a house cellar). In the object there are 8 apartments altogether. Object B: There are gym, one shop and exchange station in the 1st floor. In the second floor there are situated 4 apartments consisting of three rooms. The third floor is of the same pattern as the second one (again 4 apartments consisting of three rooms). In the object there are 8 apartments altogether. The houses are made of building system VELOX.

This paper deals with possibilities of using RTP and RTPC protocols for defining different schemes of broadcast multimedia multiplex and ways of its distribution in telecommunication networks. The effectiveness of different variants of signal distribution is compared through this simulation experiment. Some defined tasks, which could be eventually solved in this area, are also presented. A simulation is applied to theoretical and real networks and the results on each particular network could differ significantly
