Fish stomachs from 18 demersal and pelagic fishes from the coast of Terengganu in Malaysia were examined. The components of the fishes’ diets varied in number, weight, and their frequency of occurrence. The major food items in the stomachs of each species were determined using an Index of Relative Importance. A conceptual food web structure indicates that fish species in the study area can be classified into three predatory groups: (1) predators on largely planktivorous or pelagic species; (2) predators on largely benthophagous or demersal species; and (3) mixed feeders that consume both pelagic and demersal species

Breast cancer is the commonest female cancer in the world with Malaysian prevalence of 86.2 per 100,000 women in 1996. There was an increasing trend of breast cancer mortality rate in Malaysia from 0.61 in 1983 to 1.8 per 100,000 populations in 1992. This study was aimed to identify profile, risk factors of breast cancer and to compare the level of knowledge, attitude and practice regarding breast cancer between cases and controls. A matched case-control study was carried out at hospitals in Kelantan. A standardized questionnaire was used to interview 147 histologically confirmed breast cancer patients and 147 controls. Controls were non-breast cancer patients who were matched for age and ethnicity of cases and non-malignant, non-gynaecologicaf, non-hormonal and non-endocrinological patients. Potential risk factors and score of knowledge, attitude and practice were initially analysed by simple conditional logistic regression and paired t test. Multiple conditional logistic regression modelling was later used to control potential confounding factors. The mean age of breast cancer patients was 46.3 :!: 9.3 years. The most common histological type was infiltrative ductal carcinoma (73%). Presentation at stage "' and VI was 60%. Factors contributing towards increased risk of breast cancer were nulliparity (Odds Ratio (OR) 42.6, 95% Confidence Interval (95% CI) 4.8-380.8), having one or two children (OR 2.2, 95% CI 1.0-5.0), family history of breast cancer (OR 4.2, 95% CI 1.4-12.8) and ever taken oral contraceptives (OC) (OR 2.8, 950/0 CI 1.4- 5.8). Cases had significantly better score of knowledge than controls (paired t test =4.9, p0.05) and practice (paired t test = -0.7, p>0.05). Less than 200/0 of cases and controls practised monthly Breast Self-Examination (8SE). This study included younger pre-menopausal women. The profile of breast cancers such as age and ethnic distributions was different from other studies. This study reconfirmed that similar risk factors identified in western population were responsible for the occurrence of breast cancer in Kelantan. It also supported the theory that breast cancer occurrence was related to oestrogen exposure and familial factors. It suggested the importance of having children especially more than two and caution for OC users and women with family history of breast cancer. Significant higher level of knowledge did not ensure positive attitude and better practice. Health education is needed especially for high-risk women in order to change their attitude and facilitate regular correct method of screening for breast cancer

This project paper attempts to identify the influential factor which is participation towards enhancement of Standardized Work & Equipment Categories (SWEC) and Minimum Technical Requirement (MTR) on the satisfaction level among PETRONAS users. The response from respondents was gathered by distributing the questionnaire in the form of Microsoft Info Path file through the official email of PETRONAS. Once the respondents completely answer all the questions, they can automatically sent back the questionnaire to distributors email and the data will be automatically save in database system. The questionnaire used ten-point Likert scale to measure the dependent variable and independent variable for this study. The scales started with 1, strongly disagree and ended with scale 10, strongly agree. Furthermore, it presents and discussed causal effect of participation towards enhancement on satisfaction levels among PETRONAS users by applying statistical analysis methods of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) that was run using and Analysis of Moment Structure Software (AMOS 18.0). The descriptive analysis, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), non-parametric test and multiple comparison tests were used in this study to answer the objective and to prove the hypothesis in this study. This study concluded that for demographical part, organization and frequency of SWEC used variables are support for the hypothesis. In addition from multiple comparisons test conducted proved there were significant differences between paired groups of variables. Besides that, from the test for variables, dependent goal is supported for the hypothesis. Recommendation is given to improve their organization and future research for example PETRONAS should conducted training class for using the new system participated by PETRONAS users in order to increase the usage and at the same time increase the satisfaction leve

Similarity solutions for the stagnation-point flow and heat transfer over a nonlinearly stretching/shrinking sheet

    Get PDF
This paper presents a numerical analysis of a stagnation-point flow towards a nonlinearly stretching/shrinking sheet immersed in a viscous fluid. The stretching/shrinking velocity and the external flow velocity impinges normal to the stretching/shrinking sheet are assumed to be in the form U ~ xm, where m is a constant and x is the distance from the stagnation point. The governing partial differential equations are converted into ordinary ones by a similarity transformation, before being solved numerically. The variations of the skin friction coefficient and the heat transfer rate at the surface with the governing parameters are graphed and tabulated. Different from a stretching sheet, it is found that the solutions for a shrinking sheet are non-unique for m > 1/3

Mixed convection boundary layer flow over a permeable vertical cylinder with prescribed surface heat flux.

In this study we investigate the steady mixed convection boundary layer flow along a permeable vertical cylinder with prescribed surface heat flux. The free stream velocity and the surface heat flux are assumed to vary linearly with the distance from the leading edge. The governing system of partial differential equations is first transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations, and the transformed equations are solved numerically for both assisting and opposing flow regimes using two different methods, namely the Keller-box method and the NAG routine D02HAF. The features of the flow and heat transfer characteristics for different values of the governing parameters are analyzed and discussed. Dual solutions for the previously studied mixed convection boundary layer flow over an impermeable surface of the cylinder are shown to exist also in the present problem for aiding and opposing flow situations
