Decision Routing Problems in A Wireless Sensor Network Based on A Neural Mechanism

    Get PDF
This article proposes a solution for the routing problem in wireless sensor networks (WSN) based on a neural mechanism. The basic concepts of wireless sensor networks, artificial neural networks (ANNs), and WSN routing protocols are presented. The Kohonen ANN was selected to solve the problem of routing in wireless sensor networks based on a neural mechanism. A radio visibility matrix is proposed, which is a mathematical description of the connectivity of network nodes and the radio visibility of each node with respect to all other network nodes. Based on the Kohonen ANN trained by the constructive method, a method for WSN neural network clustering was developed. Two software-modeling environments are presented that were created to confirm the theory with respect to the logic of the developed methods for WSN clustering, their correction and the verification of their adequacy. Numerical results of modeling the solution of the routing problem in a wireless sensor network based on a neural mechanism by neural network clustering, the WSN matrix clustering method and the energy distance neural clustering protocol (EDNCP) are presented. It was found that the developed EDNCP protocol was 29% more efficient than known analogs

International Symposium on Urbanization and Environmental Problems: Transition/Transformation/Authenticity (2018 : Eskişehir, Turkey)Energy efficient building design has emerged by an active contribution of simulation and analysis tools on design stages. Especially in recent years, the concept of Building Information Modelling (BIM) has introduced a platform that incorporates the entire building lifecycle into the designers during the design phase. The program delivers an opportunity to acquire and manage the building in different design scenarios that have more efficient and more optimized solutions. The oil embargo imposed by OPEC countries in the 1970s emphasized the importance of going for energy consumption, and after these dates, the buildings were forced to be more conservative regarding both heating and cooling costs. To reduce energy consumption reduction of cooling and heating needs and to design more efficient HVAC devices has become a priority. The use of passive ventilation systems is also one of the essential inputs to energy expenditure in structure. In this respect, the obstruction of air flow is considered a critical factor as much as the design of the structure. The condition of surroundings and relations of prevailing wind in a layout of neighboring buildings are curial factors in passive ventilation design. The aim of the research presented here is that passive ventilation must initiate at the urban scale and then be introduced to building scale. Therefore, to be able to use passive ventilation in a building, it is first necessary to layout a city that respects the prevailing wind directions, and speeds then consider the calculation for a structure that can efficiently utilize the winds as natural ventilation element. As a case study, two different textured neighborhoods of Antalya that is a hot and humid city is selected for analyses on building height and the solid-void ratio of city context. The methodology of the research is first, created the mass models in the existing buildings and then, airflow simulation utilized to study the prevailing wind directions and speed derived from national meteorology database. The result of air circulation simulation maps in two neighborhoods in different urban contexts are evaluated and discussed in the paper. The study argue that running any passive design or a green design on only a building scale will underestimate the situation; it needs to be handled on the urban scale. The research aims to contribute to the work that will be done in this direction. No sponso

This research aims to analyze the relationship between pedagogical formation training certificate program prospective teachers’ critical thinking attitudes and their perceptions on professional ethical principles. The study used relational screening model and convenience sampling method which is one of the purposeful sampling methods. The participants consisted of 393 prospective teachers from different majors such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, health, biology, philosophy, religious culture, Turkish language and literature, music, painting and ceramics. The study deployed two data collection tools and personal information form. "Critical Thinking Attitude Scale" and "Code of Professional Ethics Scale". Descriptive statistics, Pearson product-moment correlation, multivariate variance analysis were used during the data analysis. Research results have indicated a medium level of relationship between the critical thinking attitude of prospective teachers and their professional ethical principles. Also, the dimensions of critical thinking attitudes such as willingness to collect information, self-regulation, inference, evidence-based decision making and openness to seek reasons dimensions were found to have a significant relationship with the professional ethical principles, and the five variables account for about 13% of the professional ethical principles. Taking the significance tests of the regression coefficients into consideration, the dimensions of willingness to collect information, self-regulation and openness to seek reasons are regarded as the significant predictors of the professional ethical principles. Based upon the research findings, the following recommendations are provided: The availability of critical thinking and democratic education courses within the teaching certificate program or the inclusion of critical thinking and professional ethical principles in the pedagogical formation courses based on the subject will provide prospective teachers to have positive critical thinking attitudes and professional ethical principles. As a result, they will ensure students to gain critical thinking skills during the teaching process, and they are to show ethical behaviors towards their profession. Critical thinking and professional ethical principles can be examined via experimental and qualitative researches and different measurement tools.  Article visualizations

Validity of the "Drift without pronation" sign in conversion disorder.

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Conversion disorder (CD) is a psychiatric disorder, yet the diagnosis cannot be established without the expertise of a neurologist, as distinguishing a functional from an organic symptom relies on careful bedside examination. Joseph Babinski considered the absence of pronator drift as a 'positive sign' for hysterical paresis but the validity of this sign has never been evaluated. The aim of this study was to examine the sensitivity and specificity of the "drift without pronation" sign. METHODS: Twenty-six patients with unilateral functional upper limb paresis diagnosed with CD (DSM-IV) and a control group of 28 patients with an organic neurological condition were consecutively included. The arm stabilisation test was performed with arms stretched out in full supination, fingers adducted, eyes closed for 10 seconds. A positive "drift without pronation" sign was defined by the presence of a downward drift without pronation. RESULTS: All CD subjects (100%) displayed a positive sign when only 7.1% of organic subjects did (Fisher's p < 0.001). The sign yielded a sensitivity of 100% (95% CI:84%-100%) and a specificity of 93% (95% CI:76%-98%). CONCLUSION: The observation of a "drift without pronation" sign is specific for Conversion Disorder and can be of help in making a quick distinction between organic and functional paresis at the bedside

Recent Advances in Energy Conservatıon Techniques for Buildings Workshop: From Micro Scale to Urban Level (2017 : İstanbul, Turkey)Understanding a construction site and the impacts associated with building on it has been for a long time a primary concern of green professionals (Emarald Architecture 2008). Traditional design results in adverse effects on the environmental and therefore concerned architects are attempting to minimize the problems of the past and create a new path to follow for the future. Therefore, Green Buildings can be proposed as a solution that reduces energy consumption while maintaining occupant comfort. The technics of the Green Design collected over the years by concerned professionals to eliminate the negative impact on the environment. These technics are not always requiring high-technology solutions; even low- technology solutions can make measurable differences such as using energy simulation programs to evaluate design alternatives to provides more factual data to identify improvements and confidently suggest building design alternatives that will reduce energy consumption. In this study some basic passive design strategies are applied and represented in scenarios. The results, impact percentages of each parameter changes in each scenario were given credit rather than focusing on quantitative results. The methodology of this research consisted of numerous simulations to provide energy efficient design alternatives that properly apply to a structure. No sponso

The value of 'positive' clinical signs for weakness, sensory and gait disorders in conversion disorder: a systematic and narrative review.

    Get PDF
Experts in the field of conversion disorder have suggested for the upcoming DSM-V edition to put less weight on the associated psychological factors and to emphasise the role of clinical findings. Indeed, a critical step in reaching a diagnosis of conversion disorder is careful bedside neurological examination, aimed at excluding organic signs and identifying 'positive' signs suggestive of a functional disorder. These positive signs are well known to all trained neurologists but their validity is still not established. The aim of this study is to provide current evidence regarding their sensitivity and specificity. We conducted a systematic search on motor, sensory and gait functional signs in Embase, Medline, PsycINfo from 1965 to June 2012. Studies in English, German or French reporting objective data on more than 10 participants in a controlled design were included in a systematic review. Other relevant signs are discussed in a narrative review. Eleven controlled studies (out of 147 eligible articles) describing 14 signs (7 motor, 5 sensory, 2 gait) reported low sensitivity of 8-100% but high specificity of 92-100%. Studies were evidence class III, only two had a blinded design and none reported on inter-rater reliability of the signs. Clinical signs for functional neurological symptoms are numerous but only 14 have been validated; overall they have low sensitivity but high specificity and their use should thus be recommended, especially with the introduction of the new DSM-V criteria

Introduction to the Special Issue on "Family migration processes in a comparative perspective"

    Get PDF
This paper provides an introduction to this Special Issue on "Family migration processes in a comparative perspective". Following an introduction to the topic, we provide summaries of the papers in this Special Issue and discuss afterwards some overarching theoretical perspectives. This Special Issue contains papers that explore how family lives and intimate relationships are constituted and re-constituted under conditions of transnationality. The authors of the contributing papers, although they have followed very different theoretical and methodological paths, underscore the effect of conducting and facilitating family life and couple relationships during or after an international migration process. They show that the couples and multigenerational families in transnational contexts are constantly undergoing processes of constitution, negotiation, and reconstitution. We conclude that future research should shift from focussing solely on the individual to examining couples and families, and it should adopt dynamic, rather than static perspectives when studying family migration
