Some issues in data model mapping

    Get PDF
Numerous data models have been reported in the literature since the early 1970's. They have been used as database interfaces and as conceptual design tools. The mapping between schemas expressed according to the same data model or according to different models is interesting for theoretical and practical purposes. This paper addresses some of the issues involved in such a mapping. Of special interest are the identification of the mapping parameters and some current approaches for handling the various situations that require a mapping

This research aims to address the issue of electronic contract dispute settlement through electronic arbitration, which is considered a modern method utilized toresolveelectronic contract disputes between the parties to the legal relationship. This research also seeks to define the term ‘ electronic arbitration”and its problems, obstacles, how to implement its provisions and the procedures that must be followed to come up with a unified global model for the regulation of legal arbitration. The problem of this research lies indefining national and regional legislation to address all the issues presented by electronic contracts and how to arbitrate their disputes in an attempt to keep pace with the rapid developments of technology. The significance of this research lies in elucidating the substantive and procedural legal aspects of electronic arbitrationand understanding the law applicable to it in light of challenges in determining the place and time of the issuance of the electronic arbitrationawardbecause of the diverse locations where the parties to the disputes reside and the arbitral tribunal. Finally, its importance lies in attempting to guide how to implement electronic arbitration provisions. Keywords: electronic arbitration, electronic contracts, settlement of commercial disputes, nature of electronic arbitration, arbitration judgment, arbitration procedures, arbitrators. CARDIOVASCULAR RISK REDUCTION, MEDICATION ADHERENCE AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS (SES)

Profound advances in cardiovascular disease (CVD) treatments have been made over the last two decades. However, poor adherence to preventative therapies remains a critical problem in the health of Canadians. Despite decades of research, contemporary knowledge about adherence is often based on theory that has not been confirmed with quantitative research findings. For example, adherence to preventative medications is widely considered to reduce risks for major health outcomes. However, major differences in the estimation of medication adherence benefits exist. Thus, a study was conducted to determine if the association between poor adherence and the risk of death was influenced by the method used to identify optimal adherence. The impact of adherence to statin medications on mortality was assessed among a cohort of 9,051 individuals who received a statin medication following discharge from a hospitalization for acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Using a fixed-summary measure, optimal adherence to statins was not associated with mortality benefits (adjusted HR 0.97, 95%CI 0.86 to 1.09, p=0.60). In contrast, the repeated measures approach resulted in a significant 25% reduction in the risk of death among adherent individuals (adjusted HR 0.75, 95%CI 0.67 to 0.85, p<0.01). However, neither estimate could be regarded as the most robust. Thus, until a gold standard method is established, researchers should report the estimates resulting from both methods. Among all adherence predictors, socioeconomic status (SES) is widely considered to be prominent because of its associations with many factors theoretically affecting adherence such as economic, social, and education-related features. However, published studies have reported inconsistent results about the impact of SES on adherence. A systematic review of published studies examining predictors of antihypertensive medications adherence was performed. Almost half of studies reviewed neglected to measure SES; and in studies where SES was measured, income assessment was typically the only measure. Overall, only a minor association between SES and adherence was observed after pooling all available data (pooled adjusted risk estimate for non-adherence according to SES (high versus low) 0.89, 95% CI 0.87 to 0.92; p<0.001). It was hypothesized that the performance of adherence prediction models would improve if SES was represented using more comprehensive measures. A retrospective cohort of individuals who received a statin medication following discharge from a hospitalization for coronary heart disease was identified and followed for one year. Multi-domain measures did not improve the prediction performance of the population adherence model compared to single-domain measures. Overall, all SES measures examined had a very limited impact on prediction adherence. Supporting patients to adhere to their medications is a vital goal health care providers strive to achieve. Non-adherence to preventative medications is highly prevalent among patients surviving acute coronary syndrome (ACS). However, only few patients receive appropriate care after their ACS through support programs such as cardiac rehabilitation (CR). Because pharmacist’s interventions were shown to have beneficial impact on medication adherence in various settings, a streamlined pharmacist’s intervention in CR setting was investigated through a randomized clinical trial. The impact of this intervention was assessed through the proportion of patients who achieved optimal adherence. Although this proportion did not improve among the intervention group in comparison to the control group, an unexpected high prevalence of optimal adherence was obtained. A selection bias of highly motivated individuals in this study may explain this extraordinary adherence level. Results of the four independent research studies included in this dissertation provide novel insight relating to the factors, outcomes, and possible modalities to mitigate non-adherence in Canada. Further research is essential to help in relieving this major population health problem

A Flashback on Control Logic Injection Attacks against Programmable Logic Controllers

    Get PDF
Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) make up a substantial part of critical infrastructures (CIs) and industrial control systems (ICSs). They are programmed with a control logic that defines how to drive and operate critical processes such as nuclear power plants, petrochemical factories, water treatment systems, and other facilities. Unfortunately, these devices are not fully secure and are prone to malicious threats, especially those exploiting vulnerabilities in the control logic of PLCs. Such threats are known as control logic injection attacks. They mainly aim at sabotaging physical processes controlled by exposed PLCs, causing catastrophic damage to target systems as shown by Stuxnet. Looking back over the last decade, many research endeavors exploring and discussing these threats have been published. In this article, we present a flashback on the recent works related to control logic injection attacks against PLCs. To this end, we provide the security research community with a new systematization based on the attacker techniques under three main attack scenarios. For each study presented in this work, we overview the attack strategies, tools, security goals, infected devices, and underlying vulnerabilities. Based on our analysis, we highlight the current security challenges in protecting PLCs from such severe attacks and suggest security recommendations for future research directions

GRAMMATICAL GENDER & LINGUISTIC RELATIVITY: DOES THE GRAMMATICAL GENDER NATIVE ARABIC SPEAKERS ASSIGN NEUTRAL NOUNS AFFECT HOW THEY PERCEIVE THEM?

    Get PDF
While some Native Arabic speakers assign a certain grammatical gender to neutral nouns based on whether they perceive them to be either a male/masculine or female/feminine like, others assign them a grammatical gender arbitrarily. This research aims to find out 1. whether there is a tendency among Native Arabic speakers to assign neutral nouns male grammatical gender as a result of the Arabic language’s tendency to assign neutral nouns male grammatical gender. It also aims to find out 2. what rationale the Native Arabic speakers have for their grammatical gender assignment of neutral nouns despite the Arabic language's grammatical gender assignment to nouns being arbitrary, in addition to 3. whether or not the participants would assign nouns they find feminine-like a female grammatical gender and nouns that they perceive as masculine-like a male grammatical gender, or would just assign a grammatical gender arbitrarily. This paper's findings showed that the majority of participants of both genders (i.e., males and females) tended to assign male grammatical gender to most of the neutral nouns, as 10 nouns out of 14 were assigned a male grammatical gender by the majority of both male and female participants. The participants stated that they did not perceive the nouns they assigned a male grammatical gender masculine-like but rather assigned them a male grammatical gender either arbitrarily or by default as the Arabic language tends to assign male grammatical gender to neutral nouns, whereas the majority stated that they assigned certain neutral nouns such as my knife and Falafel a female grammatical gender not because they perceived them as feminine-like, but rather because this is what they heard/acquired from those surrounding them. Therefore, the grammatical gender assignment of nouns was not semantic but rather morphological and syntactic and was done by the addition of affixation either to the noun itself or to its adjective.  Article visualizations

Evaluating the Quality of Delivery Service from the Customer's Point of View Using the Importance-Performance Matrix

    Get PDF
Purpose: Delivery services are widely used in all aspects of purchasing, but the positive and negative effects they generate for the customer influence his behavior towards repeating this method of purchase. The study aims to find out the extent of customer satisfaction with the delivery services provided to them in the city of Baghdad.   Theoretical framework: Delivery services of all kinds (delivery of food, household items, or any other materials) by direct telephone contact or using social media are among the modern services in Iraq, as this service has entered on a large scale after 2010, which requires preparation Studies and Research In order to improve these services, relevant previous research and studies have been objectively collected and reviewed to understand recent trends reached by the literature.   Design/Methodology/Approach: The analytical descriptive approach was used, and data was collected through a two-part questionnaire. The first part included the quality of delivery services provided, while the second part (performance) included customer satisfaction with the services provided. The study sample consisted of 260 beneficiaries who use delivery services continuously in the city of Baghdad. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS software and through an analytical approach based on significance performance analysis (IPA).   Findings: The results of the research determined the extent of customer satisfaction with delivery services through 5 characteristics of service quality and customer satisfaction with the services provided, as the results showed that delivery services in the city of Baghdad have not yet reached a high performance. This requires the departments that provide that service to pay more attention and focus on achieving the highest points in the first and second quarters of the matrix (management focus) (keeping up with the good work).   Research, practical and social implications: Research, practical and social implications: The modernity of delivery services in the Iraqi environment is a fertile field for providing more research and studies because this contributes greatly to increasing people’s awareness and understanding of this type of important service and at the same time contributes to raising the efficiency of operating companies and offices. for this type of service.   Originality / Value: Delivery services are a new concept in Iraq, and there is no literature at the level of Iraq to assess the quality of this service and the extent of customer satisfaction with this service through the use of the importance-performance matrix. As a result, the purpose of this paper is to make up for this void
