A convergence acceleration operator for multiobjective optimisation

    Get PDF
A novel multiobjective optimisation accelerator is introduced that uses direct manipulation in objective space together with neural network mappings from objective space to decision space. This operator is a portable component that can be hybridized with any multiobjective optimisation algorithm. The purpose of this Convergence Acceleration Operator (CAO) is to enhance the search capability and the speed of convergence of the host algorithm. The operator acts directly in objective space to suggest improvements to solutions obtained by a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA). These suggested improved objective vectors are then mapped into decision variable space and tested. The CAO is incorporated with two leading MOEAs, the Non-Dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II) and the Strength Pareto Evolutionary Algorithm (SPEA2) and tested. Results show that the hybridized algorithms consistently improve the speed of convergence of the original algorithm whilst maintaining the desired distribution of solutions

Carina the Comic vs. The Lit Review

    Get PDF
In this comic, the student reflects on the process of writing a “literature review,” a requirement for a course taught by Dean Scheibel called “Introduction of Research in Communication Studies.” The comics were created by students as a final course assignment. Students were instructed to create comics using photographs, drawings, or a computer program called Comic Life 3. The idea of reflection is important in education. These comics could be viewed as a response to reflective learning (or metacognition) about the idea of the literature review, or “research as inquiry.” Through reflection on what we do, we learn more deeply about our everyday experiences of life, death, love, God, and even literature reviews. Although “comix” have been the objects of critique by academics, these comics subject the work of the academy—the faculty member as teacher—to critique. Research is a process, and by having students reflect on the fears, errors, or mistakes made during that process they will experience new insights and discoveries

This research attempts to classify the type and analyze the function of presupposition in the movie Pitch Perfect. According to Yule’s theory of presupposition type (1996), 114 presuppositions are found: existential triggered by definite description and possessive construction (22.06%), factive triggered by factiveverb/predicate; temporal clause; the word thank, lexical triggered by implicative predicate; change of state verb; iterative; cleft sentence; comparisons; adverbs; superlative construction (24.83%), structural triggered by WH-question (11.72%), non-factive (7.58%), and counterfactual if- clause (7.58%). Based Jakobson’s theory (1960), there are 4 functions of presupposition in the movie: referential (35.10%), emotive (42.10%), conative (10.52%), and phatic (12.28%)

The purpose of this study is to determine and analyze the effect of the proportion of independent commissioners, audit committees, and managerial ownership on sustainability report disclosures with firm size as a moderating variable. The research population is mining sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2015-2017 as many as 41 companies, 8 companies do not meet the criteria. The sampling technique used purposive sampling to produce 99 samples and analysis units. The data analysis tool used is logistic regression analysis and MRA using the IBM SPSS 23.0 software. The results showed that the proportion of independent commissioners had a significant negative effect on sustainability report disclosure, while the audit committee and managerial ownership did not affect the disclosure of sustainability report. The proportion of independent commissioners moderated by firm size showed positive results that strengthened the influence of sustainability report disclosures. In addition, audit committees and managerial ownership that are moderated by firm size did not the effect of disclosure of sustainability reports. The suggestion for future research is to pay attention to the extent of disclosure and quality of the sustainability report content by looking at disclosure indicators in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative guidelines

    Testicular Cancer Update

The advances seen in the treatment of testicular cancer are among the great achievements in modern medicine. These advances were made possible by the collaborative efforts of cancer researchers around the world. Investigators have been able to address many questions regarding the treatment of patients with disease limited to the testis, those with metastasis to the retroperitoneum only, and those with advanced metastatic disease. Questions answered include the chemotherapeutic agents to be used and in what combinations, the proper intensity of treatment and appropriate dosing, the optimal number of cycles of chemotherapy according to validated risk stratification, appropriate surgical approaches that preserve sexual function, the treatment of relapsed disease, what supportive care measures to take, and survivorship issues following treatment of testicular cancer. Today, cure is achievable in 95% of all patients with testicular cancer and 80% of those who have metastatic disease. Despite remarkable results with frontline and salvage combination chemotherapy, metastatic testicular cancer remains incurable in approximately 10% of patients, and novel treatment approaches are warranted. This review highlights past and recent discoveries in the treatment of patients with testicular cancer

Can information be too much? the moderating role of Covid-19 information on the effect of job stress on job performance

    Get PDF
During the Covid-19 pandemic, many governments require companies to promote a work from home policy. However, many occupations cannot be done at home, putting the employees at increased health risk and increasing job stress. The purpose of this study is to examine whether job stress negatively affects job performance. Furthermore, we also examine the moderating effect of Covid-19 information on the relationship between job stress and job performance. Our respondents are employees who work in manufacturing firms in Salatiga and still have to work from the office during the pandemic. The data were collected using an online questionnaire, and the total number of respondents is 105. Our analysis using moderated regression analysis founds that job stress negatively influences job performance. We also found that Covid-19 information moderates the relationship between job stress and job performance
