    Evaluation of new Electricity Meters

    Get PDF
New technologies developed (new ways of energy generation and consumption) are promoting the introduction of improvements at electricity networks. Currently, European legislation is promoting changes in electricity networks of member states. These changes include new technologies to facilitate the introduction of renewable energy sources to the grid and have a more efficient use of energy. Smart grids are able to achieve these objectives. One of the important issues at smart grids is the requirement of having good measures (to be able to control the power grid) and good communication between all the electricity market participants. Smart meters are part of the smart grid technologies and are actually useful to solve this task Smart meters have a lot of features, but the most important is the two-way communication. This really differentiates this meter and electronic meters. This Master Thesis is going to study deeply this communication to understand how it works, by developing an own program able to read the measurements taken by the meter

Two-layer particle filter for multiple target detection and tracking

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the detection and tracking of an unknown number of targets using a Bayesian hierarchical model with target labels. To approximate the posterior probability density function, we develop a two-layer particle filter. One deals with track initiation, and the other with track maintenance. In addition, the parallel partition method is proposed to sample the states of the surviving targets

An evaluation of categories for tactical actions: A preliminary study of combat analysis in taekwondo

Este instrumento permite a entrenadores y deportistas abordar el proceso de análisis de rivales, y utilizar la información obtenida en entrenamientos y competiciónTaekwondo is a combat sport having direct interaction between two competitors, in a shared space and with opposite objectives, in which tactical aspects play a crucial role because of the short duration of the contest and the quick interaction between opponents. Little research has been conducted about the tactical analysis of rivals in this sport; therefore, the objective of this study was to show how to perform a complete taekwondo fight analysis. The methodology consisted of two parts: (a) analysis and comparison of previous research to analyse categories in taekwondo, providing the study with more comprehensive categorizations; and (b) development of a registering tool based on the new categories that enabled the research to show what happens to a competitor during a taekwondo fight. Finally, the instrument was used to validate the tool and new categories. The tool allowed coaches and athletes to approach rivals analysis to use this information obtained in trainings and competition

Identification and characterization of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus candidate protective antigens for the control of cattle tick infestations

The cattle ticks, Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) spp., affect cattle production in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Tick vaccines constitute a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to tick control. The recombinant Rhipicephalus microplus Bm86 antigen has been shown to protect cattle against tick infestations. However, variable efficacy of Bm86-based vaccines against geographic tick strains has encouraged the research for additional tick-protective antigens. Herein, we describe the analysis of R. microplus glutathione-S transferase, ubiquitin (UBQ), selenoprotein W, elongation factor-1 alpha, and subolesin (SUB) complementary DNAs (cDNAs) by RNA interference (RNAi) in R. microplus and Rhipicephalus annulatus. Candidate protective antigens were selected for vaccination experiments based on the effect of gene knockdown on tick mortality, feeding, and fertility. Two cDNA clones encoding for UBQ and SUB were used for cattle vaccination and infestation with R. microplus and R. annulatus. Control groups were immunized with recombinant Bm86 or adjuvant/saline. The highest vaccine efficacy for the control of tick infestations was obtained for Bm86. Although with low immunogenic response, the results with the SUB vaccine encourage further investigations on the use of recombinant subolesin alone or in combination with other antigens for the control of cattle tick infestations. The UBQ peptide showed low immunogenicity, and the results of the vaccination trial were inconclusive to assess the protective efficacy of this antigen. These experiments showed that RNAi could be used for the selection of candidate tick-protective antigens. However, vaccination trials are necessary to evaluate the effect of recombinant antigens in the control of tick infestations, a process that requires efficient recombinant protein production and formulation systems

This research addresses the challenge of analyzing the interactive practices that young people develop in fan communities through different platforms and social networks. For this purpose, a case study based on the 3rd season of the series SKAM Spain is proposed. The theoretical framework defines the importance of fan communities in the media context, the role of social networks as spaces for youth participation and the interaction models that arise from this fiction consumption. As for the methodology, a qualitative analysis based on Digital Anthropology is used through various data collection techniques such as virtual Ethnography and Focus Group, which are analyzed and interpreted according to the theory of discourse analysis, using a multimodal approach. The results of the research involve the reconstruction of the contents generated through social networks, taking into account both the intentionality of their creators and the impact achieved among the social audience. Finally, the discussion allows us to approach the new communicative phenomena and content models elaborated by young people in social networks.
