Pensamento, Teoria e Estudos Latino-americanos

RESUMOO presente trabalho configura como artigo inicial do Dossiê Especial ”“ Pensamento, Teoria e Estudos Latino-americanos, organizado conjuntamente por nós, a pedido da Revista de Estudos e Pesquisas sobre as Américas (CEPPAC), do Instituto de Ciências Sociais (ICS), da Universidade de Brasília (UnB). De forma breve, este artigo apresenta a importância alcançada pelo Pensamento, pela Teoria, e, sobre tudo, pelos Estudos Latino-americanos nas últimas décadas. In brief, this article presents the significance achieved by the Thought, the Theory, and, above all, by Latin American Studies in recent decades. Next, the paper presents the fourteen articles and the review that constitute this dossier, which results from the contribution of researchers from different locations of the region. A tight-binding potential for atomistic simulations of carbon interacting with transition metals: Application to the Ni-C system

We present a tight-binding potential for transition metals, carbon, and transition metal carbides, which has been optimized through a systematic fitting procedure. A minimal basis, including the s, p electrons of carbon and the d electrons of the transition metal, is used to obtain a transferable tight-binding model of the carbon-carbon, metal-metal and metal-carbon interactions applicable to binary systems. The Ni-C system is more specifically discussed. The successful validation of the potential for different atomic configurations indicates a good transferability of the model and makes it a good choice for atomistic simulations sampling a large configuration space. This approach appears to be very efficient to describe interactions in systems containing carbon and transition metal elements

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF METALLIC MAGNETIC COMPOUNDS : 5f-BAND APPROACHConditions for the appearance of magnetism in metallic actinide systems

Nous précisons les paramètres gouvernant l'apparition de moments magnétiques localisés dans les actinides à l'état métallique, dilués ou concentrés. Les systèmes Kondo dilués UxTh1-x et (UxTh1-x)S, les composés de protactinium, UAl2 et les composés de structure NaCl seront plus particulièrement discutés.We review the parameters responsible for the occurrence of localized magnetic moments in dilute or concentrated metallic actinide systems, and discuss their experimental evidence. The dilute Ux Th1-x and (UxTh1-x)S Kondo systems, the protactinium compounds, UAl2 and the rocksalt compounds will be more specifically considered
