A procedure to estimate the origins and the insertions of the knee ligaments from computed tomography images

The estimation of the origin and insertion of the four knee ligaments is crucial for individualised dynamic modelling of the knee. Commonly this information is obtained ex vivo or from high resolution MRI, which is not always available. Aim of this work is to devise a method to estimate the origins and insertions from computed tomography (CT) images. A reference registration atlas was created using a set of 16 bone landmarks visible in CT and eight origins and insertions estimated from MRI and in vitro data available in the literature for three knees. This atlas can be registered to the set of bone landmarks palpated on any given CT using an affine transformation. The resulting orientation and translation matrices and scaling factors can be used to find also the ligament origin and insertions. This procedure was validated on seven pathological knees for which both CT and MRI of the knee region were available, using a proprietary software tool (NMSBuilder, SCS srl, Italy). To assess the procedure reproducibility and repeatability, four different operators performed the landmarks palpation on all seven patients. The average difference between the values predicted by registration on the CT scan and those estimated on the MRI was 2.1±1.2 mm for the femur and 2.7±1.0 mm for the tibia, respectively. The procedure is highly repeatable, with no significant differences observed within or between the operators (p>0.1) and allows to estimate origins and insertions of the knee ligaments from a CT scan with the same level of accuracy obtainable with MRI

Censo florestal de uma ilha fluvial no reservatório Luís Eduardo Magalhães, Porto Nacional – Tocantins

Este estudo foi realizado em uma ilha fluvial localizada no município de Porto Nacional, Tocantins. O local fica próximo à área urbana, e foi formado após o barramento do rio Tocantins. O objetivo do trabalho foi descrever a composição florística e a estrutura da vegetação arbórea da ilha, visando ampliar o conhecimento sobre a vegetação do estado além de contribuir com a conservação da área. Foram incluídos na amostragem todos os indivíduos com circunferência maior ou igual a 10cm, obtidos a 30cm do solo, no qual foram amostrados 439 indivíduos, distribuídos em 29 espécies e 17 famílias respectivamente. A família com maior representatividade de espécies foi Fabaceae (oito), seguida de Arecaceae (quatro), Annonaceae e Dilleniaceae (duas). O índice de Shannon (H'= 2,64) mostrou uma diversidade não muito elevada no local amostrado, a área basal total foi de 307,73m2/ha

Longitudinal Associations Between Perceived Parent-Adolescent Attachment Relationship Quality and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Symptoms in Adolescence

This longitudinal study examined the direction of effects between adolescents’ generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) symptoms and perceived parent-adolescent attachment relationship quality, as well as the moderating role of gender and age. 1,313 Dutch adolescents (48.5% boys) from two age cohorts of early (n = 923, Mage = 12 at W1) and middle (n = 390, Mage = 16 at W1) adolescents completed questionnaires regarding their attachment relationship to parents and GAD symptoms in four waves. Cross-lagged path analyses demonstrated that adolescents’ GAD symptoms and perceived father-adolescent attachment relationship quality bidirectionally negatively affected each other over time. For mothers, adolescents’ GAD symptoms negatively predicted perceived mother-adolescent attachment relationship quality over time. The within-wave correlated residuals between perceived attachment relationship quality with fathers and GAD symptoms were stronger for boys than for girls and stronger for the cohort of middle adolescents than for the cohort of early adolescents. This study demonstrates that both the parents’ and the adolescents’ gender as well as the adolescents’ age affects the relation between adolescents’ GAD symptoms and perceived parent-adolescent attachment relationship quality
