Based on the account left by Doña Leonor López de Córdoba, member of a middle nobility Andalusian family, of the events in her life and that of her relatives, we propose to analize the elements she puts forward to vindicate personal and family honour, while at the same time reconstructing the property she has lost. In this analysis we focus on the beliefs and mentalities of the Castilian lower Middle Ages nobility, for whom lineage, services rendered to the Crown and the corresponding retributions, specially in the form of positions, are considered key elements in the network of social relations and power scheme

Magnetohydrodynamic waves in solar partially ionized plasmas: two-fluid approach

We derive the dynamics of magnetohydrodynamic waves in two-fluid partially ionized plasmas and to compare the results with those obtained under single-fluid description. Two-fluid magnetohydrodynamic equations are used, where ion-electron plasma and neutral particles are considered as separate fluids. Dispersion relations of linear magnetohydrodynamic waves are derived for simplest case of homogeneous medium. Frequencies and damping rates of waves are obtained for different parameters of background plasma. We found that two- and single-fluid descriptions give similar results for low frequency waves. However, the dynamics of MHD waves in two-fluid approach is significantly changed when the wave frequency becomes comparable or higher than ion-neutral collision frequency. Alfven and fast magneto-acoustic waves attain their maximum damping rate at particular frequencies (for example, the peak frequency equals 2.5 ion-neutral collision frequency for 50 % of neutral Hydrogen) in wave spectrum. The damping rates are reduced for higher frequency waves. The new mode of slow magneto-acoustic wave appears for higher frequency branch, which is connected to neutral hydrogen fluid. The single-fluid approach perfectly deals with slow processes in partially ionized plasmas, but fails for time-scales smaller than ion-neutral collision time. Therefore, two-fluid approximation should be used for the description of relatively fast processes. Some results of single-fluid description, for example the damping of high-frequency Alfven waves in the solar chromosphere due to ion-neutral collisions, should be revised in future.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, accepted in A&

Contribución prosopográfica para el estudio de tres regidores de Guadalajara y Córdoba

By analysing the wills of three councillors from Córdoba and Guadalajara in the fifteenth century, we have attempted to demonstrate how holding the same political position differed depending on who exercised it. Thus, we found a case where political and family links were the driving forces, another evidenced a wish to live beyond the economic possibilities inherent to the task, and the third case manifested an emphasis on honour and lineage. By analysing the wills of three councillors from Córdoba and Guadalajara in the fifteenth century, we have attempted to demonstrate how holding the same political position differed depending on who exercised it. The purposes of this work were to, a) describe an acute animal model of severe cardiac failure induced by high doses of halothane, b) ana- lyze the effects of these overdoses of halothane on ar- terial wall dynamics and c) characterize the cardi- ovascular effects of halothane through the autonomic nervous system. Measurements were performed in six sheep before and after halothane administration (4%). A significative decrease was observed in mean aortic flow (P<0.05) and diameter (P<0.01) in heart failure with respect to control state (from 2.64±0.95 L.min-1 and 17.32±1.86 mm to 1.69±0.58 L.min-1 and 15.33±1.71 mm; respectively). A significantly de- crease was observed in mean (P<0.005), systolic (P<0.01) and diastolic (P<0.005) aortic pressure in heart failure (from 85.90±19.49 mmHg, 93.52±18.07 mmHg and 78.86±20.12 mmHg to 49.12±21.77 mmHg, 55.54±20.71 mmHg and 43.48±21.21 mmHg; respectively). Heart rate in control group (127.73±11.20 bpm) was significantly (P<0.05) higher than that observed in heart failure (107.15±13.53 bpm).Fil: Cabrera Fischer, Edmundo Ignacio. Evaluation of Hemodynamic Autonomic Control in an Animal Model of Acute Heart Failure Induced by High Dose of Halothane

Acute animal models of cardiac failure are necessary to study new therapeutic options and should be thoroughly characterized from the hemodynamic point of view, including the response of the autonomic nervous system. Thus, the aim of this work was to characterize the pathophysiological adaptation of the autonomic nervous system to acute cardiac failure induced by high doses of halothane (4%). In six sheep, electrocardiogram, aortic pressure and flow were obtained and calculation of systemic vascular resistances was done. Variability analyses in the time and frequency domains were also performed. In the time domain, after heart failure induction using halothane 4%, a significant decrease of both aortic blood flow variability (from 0. 13 ± 0. 05 to 0. 09 ± 0. 02 L min -1, p < 0. 05) and the broad band spectra (from 1. 80 ± 0. 66 to 1. 25 ± 0. 57 L 2 min -2, p < 0. 005) was observed. Both mean RR (472 ± 44 to 567 ± 68 ms, p < 0. 01), and low frequency band of RR intervals (from 6. 2 ± 0. 9 to 7. 7 ± 1. 5 ms 2, p < 0. 05), showed a significant increase, and no change in systemic vascular resistance (from 54. 9 ± 29. 5 to 50. 3 ± 38. 4 mmHg min L -1), all of them after heart failure induction. We conclude that in this model of heart failure the autonomic nervous system activity is still functioning, the combination of increased mean and RR low frequency band, with no change in systemic vascular resistance suggest an increase in the sympathetic control (due to maintained SVR), in an attempt to compensate the depression in the cardiac activity and hemodynamic alterations after severe myocardial depression induced by halothane.Fil: Camus, Juan M..
