    Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Microorganisms are the primary responsible for food poisoning and food spoilage. The purpose of this study was to evaluate different fruit washing methods with tap water, electrolyzed water and rhamnolipids solution produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa LBI, in order to inhibit microbial growth. The tested organism was Eugenia uniflora. The fruits were washed and periodically inoculated into culture media to evaluate and count the colonies on the fruit surface. It was also observed the deterioration level of the fruits after each treatment. The results showed that treatment with rhamnolipids were the most efficient, inhibiting the growth of fungi and bacteria. The electrolyzed water proved to be very efficient in bacterial inhibition at the initial time, but in the final time it did not present any inhibitory effect. The electrolyzed water was also not effective in eliminating fungus. Washing with tap water was the less efficient treatment of all. The only treatment that showed an increased durability has been with rhamnolipids, increasing shelf life by up to two days. Thus rhamnolipids are the most recommended method for fruits sanitation. © 2016, Sociedade Brasileira de Ciencia e Tecnologia de Alimentos, SBCTA. In this paper we describe the results of photoacoustic spectroscopy and thermal diffusivity measurements in borosilicate glass matrix with CdTe quantum dots. Samples treated at the temperature of 540°C for different periods were studied. The photoacoustic spectra show the absorption band of CdTe quantum dots, which shifts as a function of the thermal treatment time, revealing the evolution of the average radius of the nanocrystals, Thermal lens measurements provide the thermal diffusivity of the treated samples and give the behavior of the temperature coefficient of the refractive index, dn/dT, which is correlated to the transmittance spectra. © EDP Sciences.125273276Tudury, G.E., Marquezini, M.V., Ferreira, L.G., Barbosa, L.C., Cesar, C.L., (2000) Phys. O objetivo deste trabalho foi de observar o índice de vegetação por diferença normalizada (NDVI) em cafezais de Lavras, sul de Minas Gerais ao longo do tempo para utilização desta variável como ferramenta no manejo das lavouras. Foi realizado o estudo em cafezal no campus da Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA) no período de fevereiro de 2014 a março de 2015. Trinta plantas de Coffea arabica L, cv Catuaí IAC 144 com 6 anos de idade foram avaliadas semanalmente o NDVI em três posições e conteúdo de clorofila total em 4 posições. Os dados obtidos foram submetidos à análise de série temporal e cada variável foram submetidos à análise de correlação de Person (r). Os resultados indicam que Nas plantas de café valores de NDVI variaram em função da posição da planta e da época da medida, enquanto para NDVI e conteúdo de clorofila total foi observada uma correlação negativa. Contudo, a série temporal do NDVI é uma ferramenta útil no manejo de cafezais no sul de Minas Gerais

    Conhecendo o IAF do cafeeiro arábica através do índice de vegetação por diferença normalizada

    O objetivo deste trabalho foi relacionar a série temporal do Índice de Área Foliar (IAF) estimado pelo método proposto por Barbosa et al. (2012) ao índice de vegetação por diferença normalizada (NDVI) adequando um modelo de determinação do IAF através de dados de NDVI coletados em um cafezal na região de Lavras, sul de Minas Gerais. Para isso foi realizado o estudo em cafezal no campus da Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA) no período de fevereiro de 2014 a fevereiro de 2015 onde trinta plantas de Coffea arabica L, cv Catuaí IAC 144 foram avaliadas mensalmente com medições de altura do ramo ortotrópico e comprimento de plagiotrópicos em 5 posições na copa para estimativa do IAF, enquanto as avaliações de NDVI foram realizadas semanalmente em três posições distintas da planta. Dados mensais de precipitação (mm- Prec) e temperatura média do ar (°C- Tm) também foram coletados. Os valores de cada variável foram submetidos à análise de correlação (r). A série temporal demonstra que o IAF varia em função da temperatura e precipitação. O modelo de regressão exponencial foi o mais adequado para determinar os valores de IAF em função do NDVI. As correlações do IAF com o NDVI variam em função da posição da medida de NDVI da planta. A série temporal do IAF é uma variável útil nas práticas de manejo, enquanto NDVI pode ser utilizado para determinar o IAF em plantas de café

    Objective: To determine the time of diagnosis of typical orofacial clefts in different Brazilian regions and its influence on age at surgical correction. Method: This was a prospective, descriptive, cross-sectional study conducted in medical centers in the Southeast, South, and Northeast of Brazil. Trained speech therapists and geneticists interviewed the parents of affected children using a previously validated questionnaire. Epi-Info and SPSS were used for data analysis. Significance level was set at 5% (p ≤ 0.05). Results: The sample consisted of 215 interviews conducted in the following regions: 21.9% (47) in the Southeast, 51.1% (110) in the South, and 27% (58) in the Northeast. Monthly family income was higher in the Southeast (p ≤ 0.05). Cleft lip and palate were found in 61.4% (132) of cases, cleft palate in 20.9% (45), and cleft lip in 17.7% (38). Diagnosis occurred in the maternity ward in 75.3% (162) of cases, during the prenatal period in 14% (30), and after hospital discharge in 10.2% (22). The Southeast had a higher frequency of prenatal diagnosis (27.7%), possibly related to greater purchasing power in this region and greater availability of prenatal investigation. Of all cases diagnosed in the maternity ward, 74.4% occurred in the Northeast. However, no significant difference was found when comparing time of diagnosis, region, and age at first surgery. Conclusion: Considering that diagnosis is more common in the maternity ward, local health care teams should be trained in order to effectively improve the initial care of these patients. Although time of diagnosis did not affect age at surgery, it favors the planning of neonatal care and treatment of affected infants.     To identify pathogenic genomic imbalances in patients presenting congenital heart disease (CHD) with extra cardiac anomalies and exclusion of 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2 DS). Methods: 78 patients negative for the 22q11.2 deletion, previously screened by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and/or multiplex ligation probe amplification (MLPA) were tested by chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA). Results: Clinically significant copy number variations (CNVs ≥300. kb) were identified in 10% (8/78) of cases. In addition, potentially relevant CNVs were detected in two cases (993. kb duplication in 15q21.1 and 706. kb duplication in 2p22.3). Genes inside the CNV regions found in this study, such as IRX4, BMPR1A, SORBS2, ID2, ROCK2, E2F6, GATA4, SOX7, SEMAD6D, FBN1, and LTPB1 are known to participate in cardiac development and could be candidate genes for CHD. Conclusion: These data showed that patients presenting CHD with extra cardiac anomalies and exclusion of 22q11.2 DS should be investigated by CMA. The present study emphasizes the possible role of CNVs in CHD. © 2017 Sociedade Brasileira de Pediatria.To identify pathogenic genomic imbalances in patients presenting congenital heart disease (CHD) with extra cardiac anomalies and exclusion of 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2 DS).     Entropy and Spin Susceptibility of s-wave Type-II Superconductors near Hc2H_{c2}

    A theoretical study is performed on the entropy SsS_{\rm s} and the spin susceptibility χs\chi_{\rm s} near the upper critical field Hc2H_{c2} of s-wave type-II superconductors with arbitrary impurity concentrations. The changes of these quantities through Hc2H_{c2} may be expressed as [Ss(T,B)Ss(T,0)]/[Sn(T)Ss(T,0)]=1αS(1B/Hc2)(B/Hc2)αS[S_{\rm s}(T,B)-S_{\rm s}(T,0)]/[S_{\rm n}(T)-S_{\rm s}(T,0)]=1-\alpha_{S}(1-B/H_{c2})\approx (B/H_{c2})^{\alpha_{S}}, for example, where BB is the average flux density and SnS_{\rm n} denotes entropy in the normal state. It is found that the slopes αS\alpha_{S} and αχ\alpha_{\chi} at T=0 are identical, connected directly with the zero-energy density of states, and vary from 1.72 in the dirty limit to 0.50.60.5\sim 0.6 in the clean limit. This mean-free-path dependence of αS\alpha_{S} and αχ\alpha_{\chi} at T=0 is quantitatively the same as that of the slope αρ(T=0)\alpha_{\rho}(T=0) for the flux-flow resistivity studied previously. The result suggests that Ss(B)S_{\rm s}(B) and χs(B)\chi_{\rm s}(B) near T=0 are convex downward (upward) in the dirty (clean) limit, deviating substantially from the linear behavior B/Hc2\propto B/H_{c2}. The specific-heat jump at Hc2H_{c2} also shows fairly large mean-free-path dependence.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figure

    Estudos sobre a nutrição mineral do sorgo granífero: V. efeitos das deficiências de micronutrientes (nota)

    Grain sorghum var. TEY-101 was grown in nutrient solution in the presence and in the absence of micronutrients. Symptoms of deficieny of all micronutrients were obtained. Growth, as measured by dry matter production was affected by the treatments in the folowing decreasing, order: minus Fe, minus Zn, minus Mn, minus B, minus Mo and minus Cu. An additional treatment in which excess Mn was used revealed a relative tolerance of the variety to high levels of this element. The results of chemical analyses of the leaves suggest that the following contents (in ppm) of micronutrients are associated with the respective deficiencies: B - 20 to 40, Cu - 8 to 10, Fe - 198, Mn - 32 to 35, Mo - 0.5, Zn - 46 to 52; in the case of Fe the Fe/Mn relationship seems to give a better indication of the nutritional status than the content of the element per se, being igual to 1.7 in the healthy plants, and 0.6 in the iron deficient ones.O sorgo granífero, var. TEY 101, foi cultivado em solução nutritiva na presença e ausência de micronutrientes. Foram obtidos sintomas de carência e foi feita a determinação dos teores desses elementos nas folhas
