Taking the Pit Bull Off the Leash: Siccing the Endangered Species Act on Climate Change
Environmentalists have been warning of catastrophic climate change for years, often getting only minimal attention from lawmakers and, until recently, the public. With the political climate still moving only incrementally, citizen groups and states may have a tactic in the Endangered Species Act to jumpstart the reduction of CO2 emissions. This Note examines the implications of a citizen suit to reduce emissions based on the section 9 take provisions of the Endangered Species Act. It examines Article III standing requirements alongside the citizen-suit provisions of the Endangered Species Act, and the possible existence of a nonjusticiable political question. The Note takes the position that such a suit could move forward successfully, given the right judicial circumstances

Combination of Tempeh and Carrot Prevent Atherosclerosis Wistar Rat: Indicated by Increase of Hdl and Total Antioxidant, Decrease Ldl, F2-isoprostan, and Il-6
Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death, either in developed and developing countries. The disease is stimulated by the present of atherosclerosis. This study aims to investigate supplementation of combined tempeh M-2 and carrot to prevent atherosclerosis wistar rat by increases HDL and TAC, decreases LDL, F2-Isoprostan, and IL-6. This was a true experimental study with the factorial completely randomized post-test only control group design. variables such as KN (standard feeding / pellets (50 g / kg bw / day), KP: pig lubrication: pellets (1: 9) (50 g / kg bw / day), T : lubrication pig: pellets (1: 9) with tempeh M -2 (20 g / kg bw / day), W: pig lubrication: pellets (1: 9) with carrots (20 g / kg bw / day), and TW: pig lubrication: pellets (1: 9) with tempeh M-2 (20 g / kg bw / day), and carrots (20 g / kg bw / day). Dependent variables in this study are serum HDL,serum TAC, LDL serum, urine F2-Isoprostan, and plasma IL-6 (with Elisa Method). Data were analyzed using the F test (two-way ANOVA), followed by LSD test. Descriptive research was also conducted in this study in order to find out the change of aortic histopathologic. The highest average levels of HDL, TAC contained on TW, which respectively amounted 68.640 ± 0.50 mg / dl, 1.454 ± 0.01 nM / mL. It showed highly significant differences (p<0.01) in the various treatments. TW treatment showed highly significant interaction effect (p<0.01) were observed for all parameters except for HDL. Average levels of LDL, F2- Isoprostan, and IL-6 lowest in the treatment TW, which respectively amounted 20.718 ± 1.33 mg / dl, 0.720 ± 0.065 ng / dl, 35.328 ± 1.000 pg/dl, showed highly significant differences (p<0.01) in the various treatments. It can be concluded that supplementation with a combination of tempeh M-2 with carrots give the best effect, can increases HDL and TAC, and can decreases LDL, F2-Isoprostan, IL-6 significantly, and may change the hystopathology structure of aorta from endotel dysfunction to become normal
Adiabatic quantum pumping in an Aharonov-Bohm loop and in a Si-like nanowire: Role of interference in real space and in momentum space
We study the consequences of interference effects on the current generated by
adiabatic quantum pumping in two distinct one-dimensional (1D) lattice model.
The first model contains an Aharonov-Bohm (AB) loop within a tight-binding
chain of lattice sites. The static AB phase is shown to strongly affect
interference between the two arms of the loop, serving as an on-off switch and
regulator for the pumped current. The second model simulates pumping in
semiconductors with indirect band-gaps, by utilizing a tight-binding chain with
next-nearest-neighbor coupling. The model exhibits signatures of interference
between degenerate conduction band states with different Fermi wavevectors.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure
Electronic Structure of Pyrochlore Iridates: From Topological Dirac Metal to Mott Insulator
In 5d transition metal oxides such as the iridates, novel properties arise
from the interplay of electron correlations and spin-orbit interactions. We
investigate the electronic structure of the pyrochlore iridates, (such as
YIrO) using density functional theory, LDA+U method, and
effective low energy models. A remarkably rich phase diagram emerges on tuning
the correlation strength U. The Ir magnetic moment are always found to be
non-collinearly ordered. However, the ground state changes from a magnetic
metal at weak U, to a Mott insulator at large U. Most interestingly, the
intermediate U regime is found to be a Dirac semi-metal, with vanishing density
of states at the Fermi energy. It also exhibits topological properties -
manifested by special surface states in the form of Fermi arcs, that connect
the bulk Dirac points. This Dirac phase, a three dimensional analog of
graphene, is proposed as the ground state of YIrO and related
compounds. A narrow window of magnetic `axion' insulator, with axion parameter
, may also be present at intermediate U. An applied magnetic field
induces ferromagnetic order and a metallic ground state.Comment: 7pages + 2pages appendices. 7 figures; see also viewpoint article by

Radiation of the Inner Horizon of the Reissner-Nordstr\"om Black Hole
Despite of over thirty years of research of the black hole thermodynamics our
understanding of the possible role played by the inner horizons of
Reissner-Nordstr\"om and Kerr-Newman black holes in black hole thermodynamics
is still somewhat incomplete: There are derivations which imply that the
temperature of the inner horizon is negative and it is not quite clear what
this means. Motivated by this problem we perform a detailed analysis of the
radiation emitted by the inner horizon of the Reissner-Nordstr\"om black hole.
As a result we find that in a maximally extended Reissner-Nordstr\"om spacetime
virtual particle-antiparticle pairs are created at the inner horizon of the
Reissner-Nordstr\"om black hole such that real particles with positive energy
and temperature are emitted towards the singularity from the inner horizon and,
as a consequence, antiparticles with negative energy are radiated away from the
singularity through the inner horizon. We show that these antiparticles will
come out from the white hole horizon in the maximally extended
Reissner-Nordstr\"om spacetime, at least when the hole is near extremality. The
energy spectrum of the antiparticles leads to a positive temperature for the
white hole horizon. In other words, our analysis predicts that in addition to
the radiation effects of black hole horizons, also the white hole horizon
radiates. The black hole radiation is caused by the quantum effects at the
outer horizon, whereas the white hole radiation is caused by the quantum
effects at the inner horizon of the Reissner-Nordstr\"om black hole.Comment: 22 pages, 6 figures. References added, discussion slightly expanded

Adiabatic quantum pumping of a desired ratio of spin current to charge current
We present a prescription for generating pure spin current or spin selective
current, based on adiabatic quantum pumping in a tight-binding model of a one
dimensional conductor. A formula for the instantaneous pumped current is
derived without introducing the scattering matrix. Our calculations indicate
that some pumping cycles produce the maximum value 2 of pumped spin while
others reverse the direction of current as a result of small alterations of the
pumping cycle. We find pumping cycles which produce essentially any ratio of
spin current to charge current.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, to be published in PR
