    A Survey of Morphing Techniques

Image morphing provides the tool to generate the flexible and powerful visual effect. Morphing depicts the transformation of one image into another image. The process of image morphing starts with the feature specification phase and then proceeds to warp generation phase, followed by the transition control phase. This paper surveys the various techniques available for all three stages of image morphing

Accurate molecular energies by extrapolation of atomic energies using an analytic quantum mechanical model

Using a new analytic quantum mechanical method based on Slater's Xalpha method, we show that a fairly accurate estimate of the total energy of a molecule can be obtained from the exact energies of its constituent atoms. The mean absolute error in the total energies thus determined for the G2 set of 56 molecules is about 16 kcal/mol, comparable to or better than some popular pure and hybrid density functional models.Comment: 5 pages, REVTE

Background: There is growing evidence showing that a number of complex human diseases are caused or are at least influenced by periodontal diseases. Such diseases include cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, diabetes mellitus, and osteoporosis. Aim: The aim of the present study was to evaluate periodontal diseases as a risk factor for preterm low birth weight infants. Methods: A case‑control study with a selection ratio of 1:1 was performed using 150 cases and 150 controls, who delivered their babies at Vanivilas Hospital, Bangalore, India, over a 3‑months period from January 2012–March 2012. Cases were defined as mothers delivering an infant weighing less than 2,500 gms and born before 37‑weeks gestation. Controls were mothers delivering an infant weighing more than 2,500 gms and born after 38‑weeks gestation. Patients were evaluated for age, socioeconomic status, obstetric risk, nutritional status, maternal morbidity, infections, toxic exposure, antenatal care, infant characters, through hospital records and personal questionnaire by incharge team members. Oral examination was performed using Extent and severity index, Sulcus Bleeding Index. Results: Cases and controls did not reveal any significant difference when compared for age, socioeconomic status, obstetric risk, nutrition, maternal morbidity, and antenatal care. Periodontal disease was more severe and extensive in cases when compared with control and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.001). Bleeding index scores were higher in cases as compared to control and was statistically significant (P<0.001). Conclusion: Within the limits of this study, it is concluded that a poor periodontal health status of the mother may be a potential risk factor for a preterm low birth weight. Keywords: Cytokines, preterm low birth weight, periodontitis, socioeconomic statu

ABSTRACT:An accurate, simple, reproducible andsensitive method for the determination ofparacetamol, caffeine and chlorpheniraminemaleate in tablet dosage form is developed andvalidated. The separation is achieved usingHiQsilC18HS reverse-phase column (250 X 4.6mm I.D., particle size 5μm) using a mixture ofacetonitrile and water in the proportion 55:300with final pH of 2.4 adjusted with o-phosphoricacid as a mobile phase. The flow rate is 1.0mL/ min and effluents were monitored at 265nm. Total run time is less than 12 min. andretention time of paracetamol, caffeine andchlorpheniramine maleate are 6.742, 9.417, and3.683 min respectively. Validation of method isdone as per ICH guideline for accuracy, precision, linearity, specificity, and sensitivity. The linearity for paracetamol is found to be100-650 μg/mL where as for caffeine andchlorpheniramine maleate is found in the rangeof 15-100 μg/mL. Result of validation study isfound statistically significant because all thestatistical parameters were within theacceptance range (COV and S.D. <1.0 for bothaccuracy and precision). The limits of detection(LOD) values are 1.2014, 0.4587 and 0.8945and limit of quantitation (LOQ) values are0.5142, 0.4512 and 0.7845 μg/mL forparacetamol, caffeine and chlorpheniraminemaleate respectively. High percentage recoveryand low COV value revealed the reliability ofthe method for quantitative study of threedrugs in Fevril tablets as a quality-control toolfor routine quantitative determination ofparacetamol, caffeine and chlorpheniraminemaleate

Introduction: Prolactin and Thyroid hormones are regulated through an interrelated pathway. The increased level of TRH in hypothyroidism stimulates the release of prolactin. Prolactin and thyroid disorders are associated in a variety of conditions. Aims: To find if any correlation exists between Prolactin and Thyroid hormone levels in thyroid disorders. Methods: It was an observational, retrospective study. Serum levels of T3, T4, TSH and Prolactin were estimated by ELISA kits. The data was collected from registers and analyzed for correlation. Results: A significant proportion of hyperprolactinemia cases are Euthyroid. Hyperprolactinemia is associated with both hypothyroidism as well as hyperthyroidism. It is more prevalent in hypothyroid cases. Prolactin has a positive correlation with TSH in both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Conclusion: Prolactin has a positive correlation with TSH in both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Both prolactin and thyroid hormone levels should be estimated in cases of infertility, menstrual disturbances and thyroid disorders. Keywords: Hyperprolactinemia; Hyperthyroidism; Hypothyroidism

Static dipole polarizability of C70 fullerene

The electronic and vibrational contributions to the static dipole polarizability of C70 fullerene are determined using the finite-field method within the density functional formalism. Large polarized Gaussian basis sets augmented with diffuse functions are used and the exchange-correlation effects are described within the Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof generalized gradient approximation (PBE-GGA). The calculated polarizability of C70 is 103 Angstrom^3, in excellent agreement with the experimental value of 102 Angstrom^3, and is completely determined by the electronic part, vibrational contribution being negligible. The ratio of polarizabilities of C70 and C60 is 1.26. The comparison of polarizability calculated with only local terms (LDA) in the PBE functional to that obtained with PBE-GGA shows that LDA is sufficient to determine the static dipole polarizability of C70.Comment: IOP style, 1 figur

Background: Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease affecting the tooth supporting structures; studies have shown that it also affects the systemic health and conditions like pregnancy. With this background the present retrospective study was conducted to assess and correlate periodontal status of pregnant women with their pregnancy outcome. Methods: A total of 150 pregnant women two days postpartum were examined for periodontal status using following parameters: Oral hygiene index- simplified (OHI-S), modified gingival index (MGI), probing pocket depth (PPD) and clinical attachment loss (CAL). The level of education, body mass index (BMI), gestational age and weight of the baby were recorded and correlated with the periodontal status. Results: Out of 150 women, 83 (55.3%) women suffered from gingivitis and 67 (44.7%) had periodontitis. The incidence of preterm low birth weight babies was seen in 65 (43.33%) women. Body mass index, education level and periodontal disease were significantly associated with preterm low birth weight infants. Conclusions: A significant association was found between periodontitis and preterm low birth infants. The promotion of early detection and treatment of periodontal diseases in women before and during pregnancy will be beneficial. This will minimize the cost of post natal care and morbidity in the new born

Full potential LAPW calculation of electron momentum density and related properties of Li

Electron momentum density and Compton profiles in Lithium along ,, , and directions are calculated using Full-Potential Linear Augmented Plane Wave basis within generalized gradient approximation. The profiles have been corrected for correlations with Lam-Platzman formulation using self-consistent charge density. The first and second derivatives of Compton profiles are studied to investigate the Fermi surface breaks. Decent agreement is observed between recent experimental and our calculated values. Our values for the derivatives are found to be in better agreement with experiments than earlier theoretical results. Two-photon momentum density and one- and two-dimensional angular correlation of positron annihilation radiation are also calculated within the same formalism and including the electron-positron enhancement factor.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures TO appear in Physical Review
