    Aplicarea vaccinului anti-hpv în România şi consecinţele informării insuficiente

    Human papilloma virus is the main cause of cervical cancer around the world. In Romania in each year approximately 3500 women are infected and about 2000 dies because of this illness. In November 2008 the Romanian Health Ministry has started the national health program organizing the anti-HPV vaccination of girls aged 12-14. There were bought 110000 doses of vaccine with 23 milion Euro, but the data of the fi rst quarter in 2009 show that only 2,57% of target population was vaccinated, probably due the poor information. In November 2009 the second vaccination campaign was started. In three months 11731 girls were vaccinated, about 10%. In the same time the target population was widened to girls aged 12-24. In our study we tried to answer why the participation was so low and we analyzed the information level of mothers about cervical cancer, the effi ciency and the secondary effects of anti-HPV vaccine. The majority of mothers of 12-14 aged girls from some schools from Târgu-Mureş have insuffi cient knowledge about the relationship between HPV and cervical cancer, and more than two-third of them have irrational fear because of secondary effects and are distrustful regarding the effi ciency of vaccination

    Bilateral comparison of traditional and alternate electrodermal measurement sites

    Abstract Advances in mobile and wireless technology have expanded the scope of electrodermal research. Since traditional electrodermal measurement sites are not always suitable for laboratory research and are rarely appropriate for ambulatory measurements, there is a need to explore and contrast alternate measurement locations. We evaluated bilateral electrodermal activity (EDA) from five measurement sites (fingers, feet, wrists, shoulders, and calves). In a counterbalanced, randomized, within-subjects design study, participants (N = 115) engaged in a 4-min-long breathing exercise and were exposed to emotionally laden and neutral stimuli. High within-subject correlations were found between the EDA measured from fingers bilaterally (r = .89), between the left fingers and both feet (r = .72). Moderate correlations were found between EDA measured from the left fingers and wrists (r = .30 and r = .33), low correlations between the left fingers and the shoulders (r = ?.03 and r = ?.06) or calves (r = .05 and r = .14). Response latency was the shortest on the fingers while it was the longest on the lower body. Short response windows would miss some of the responses from the palmar surfaces and a substantial number from other evaluated locations. The fingers and the feet are the most reliable locations to measure from, followed by the wrists. We suggest setting site-specific response windows for different measurement locations. An investigation of repeatability showed that within-subject correlations, response frequencies, response amplitudes show a similar pattern from the first measurement time to a later one

    Shifts in hemispheric dominance were previously proposed to play a role in hypnosis. Participants (N = 32) were exposed to an active–alert hypnosis induction and a music-control condition while electrodermal activity was registered bilaterally, providing information on alterations in hemispheric dominance. The results suggest that highly hypnotizable participants show a shift to right-sided and low hypnotizable participants demonstrated a shift to left-sided electrodermal dominance in response to the induction, whereas no change in laterality is present in the control condition. Additionally, the authors found that self-reported hypnosis experiences were also associated with a shift in laterality. These results underline the importance of the shift to right hemispheric activity in hypnosis and underscore the importance of hemispheric changes in shaping subjective experience

    Anti-Tumor Effects of a Penetratin Peptide Targeting Transcription of E2F-1, 2 and 3a Is Enhanced When Used in Combination with Pemetrexed or Cisplatin

    Background: We tested the antitumor effects of a modified E2F peptide substituting D-Arg for L-Arg, conjugated to penetratin (PEP) against solid tumor cell lines and the CCRF-leukemia cell line, alone and in combination with pemetrexed or with cisplatin. For in-vivo studies, the peptide was encapsulated in PEGylated liposomes (PL-PEP) to increase half-life and stability. Methods: Prostate cancer (DU145 and PC3), breast cancer (MCF7, MDA-MB-468, and 4T1), lymphoma (CCRF-CEM), and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines (H2009, H441, H1975, and H2228) were treated with D-Arg PEP in combination with cisplatin or pemetrexed. Western blot analysis was performed on the NSCLC for E2F-1, pRb, thymidylate synthase, and thymidine kinase. The H2009 cell line was selected for an in-vivo study. Results: When the PEP was combined with cisplatin and tested against solid tumor cell lines and the CCRF-CEM leukemia cell line, there was a modest synergistic effect. A marked synergistic effect was seen when the combination of pemetrexed and the PEP was tested against the adenocarcinoma lung cancer cell lines. The addition of the PEP to pemetrexed enhanced the antitumor effects of pemetrexed in a xenograft of the H2009 in mice. Conclusions: The D-Arg PEP in combination with cisplatin caused synergistic cell kill against prostate, breast, lung cancers, and the CCRF-CEM cell line. Marked synergy resulted when the D-Arg PEP was used in combination with pemetrexed against the lung adenocarcinoma cell lines. A xenograft study using the PL-PEP in combination with pemetrexed showed enhanced anti-tumor effects compared to each drug alone
