    Does green finance facilitate firms in achieving corporate social responsibility goals?

    Socio-economic and environment-friendly initiatives are imperative to ensure sustainable development. And corporate social responsibility (CSR) emerged as a solution to create a balance in society through sustainable business performance. However, organizations need plentiful resources to comply with the philosophies of sustainability and CSR. Therefore, the current study explores the role of green financing that covers the social, environmental, and economic aspects of green financing for achieving, excelling and enhancing CSR in the banking sector. Through the employment of survey methodology and the application of Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), the data confirms the contributing role of green finance and its respective dimensions (Environmental, Economics, and Social) in enhancing the multiple facets of CSR. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the banking sector should allocate additional financial resources to promote CSR attributes

    C-Watcher: A Framework for Early Detection of High-Risk Neighborhoods Ahead of COVID-19 Outbreak

    The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has crushed daily routines and is still rampaging through the world. Existing solution for nonpharmaceutical interventions usually needs to timely and precisely select a subset of residential urban areas for containment or even quarantine, where the spatial distribution of confirmed cases has been considered as a key criterion for the subset selection. While such containment measure has successfully stopped or slowed down the spread of COVID-19 in some countries, it is criticized for being inefficient or ineffective, as the statistics of confirmed cases are usually time-delayed and coarse-grained. To tackle the issues, we propose C-Watcher, a novel data-driven framework that aims at screening every neighborhood in a target city and predicting infection risks, prior to the spread of COVID-19 from epicenters to the city. In terms of design, C-Watcher collects large-scale long-term human mobility data from Baidu Maps, then characterizes every residential neighborhood in the city using a set of features based on urban mobility patterns. Furthermore, to transfer the firsthand knowledge (witted in epicenters) to the target city before local outbreaks, we adopt a novel adversarial encoder framework to learn "city-invariant" representations from the mobility-related features for precise early detection of high-risk neighborhoods, even before any confirmed cases known, in the target city. We carried out extensive experiments on C-Watcher using the real-data records in the early stage of COVID-19 outbreaks, where the results demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of C-Watcher for early detection of high-risk neighborhoods from a large number of cities.Comment: 11 pages, accepted by AAAI 2021, appendix is include

    Ranking reputation and quality in online rating systems

    How to design an accurate and robust ranking algorithm is a fundamental problem with wide applications in many real systems. It is especially significant in online rating systems due to the existence of some spammers. In the literature, many well-performed iterative ranking methods have been proposed. These methods can effectively recognize the unreliable users and reduce their weight in judging the quality of objects, and finally lead to a more accurate evaluation of the online products. In this paper, we design an iterative ranking method with high performance in both accuracy and robustness. More specifically, a reputation redistribution process is introduced to enhance the influence of highly reputed users and two penalty factors enable the algorithm resistance to malicious behaviors.     Talent management in hospitality during the COVID-19 pandemic in Macao: a contingency approach

    Purpose This study aims to examine talent management (TM) in the hospitality industry in Macao during COVID-19. It deploys a contingency theory perspective (Luthans and Stewart, 1977) to illuminate the heightened uncertainties and challenges talent managers faced during the pandemic and the urgent adaptations to TM practices they embraced in response. Design/methodology/approach Adopting a phenomenological approach, this study analyzed data collected through semi-structured interviews conducted with a representative sample of 20 hotel managers in Macao. Findings Managers reported four major categories of COVID-19-induced challenges and a corresponding set of contingent TM practices. The four contingent TM practices were found to contribute to the shaping of the next new normal in TM in hospitality and included the following: Contingent TM planning; contingent TM deployment and replacement; talent training and development under contingent arrangements; and changed “talent” attitude and practices in recruitment and retention. Research limitations/implications The findings are limited to the geographical and industry context of the study. This study should be refined with larger samples. Practical implications This study provides a useful framework for guiding professionals on how to manage talent during turmoil periods. It also contributes toward understanding the shifting meaning of talent and TM in hospitality. Originality/value This study demonstrates the applicability of contingency theory in managing hospitality talent during turbulent times, which extends TM knowledge and enriches the contingency theory. The findings also facilitate our understanding on how contingent TM practices create processes that lead in setting the new normal

    A Longitudinal Analysis about the Effect of Air Pollution on Astigmatism for Children and Young Adults

    Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the correlation between air pollution and astigmatism, considering the detrimental effects of air pollution on respiratory, cardiovascular, and eye health. Methods: A longitudinal study was conducted with 127,709 individuals aged 4-27 years from 9 cities in Guangdong Province, China, spanning from 2019 to 2021. Astigmatism was measured using cylinder values. Multiple measurements were taken at intervals of at least 1 year. Various exposure windows were used to assess the lagged impacts of air pollution on astigmatism. A panel data model with random effects was constructed to analyze the relationship between pollutant exposure and astigmatism. Results: The study revealed significant associations between astigmatism and exposure to carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and particulate matter (PM2.5) over time. A 10 {\mu}g/m3 increase in a 3-year exposure window of NO2 and PM2.5 was associated with a decrease in cylinder value of -0.045 diopters and -0.017 diopters, respectively. A 0.1 mg/m3 increase in CO concentration within a 2-year exposure window correlated with a decrease in cylinder value of -0.009 diopters. No significant relationships were found between PM10 exposure and astigmatism. Conclusion: This study concluded that greater exposure to NO2 and PM2.5 over longer periods aggravates astigmatism. The negative effect of CO on astigmatism peaks in the exposure window of 2 years prior to examination and diminishes afterward. No significant association was found between PM10 exposure and astigmatism, suggesting that gaseous and smaller particulate pollutants have easier access to human eyes, causing heterogeneous morphological changes to the eyeball

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Perineural invasion is a common path for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) metastasis, and it is highly correlated with postoperative recurrence and poor prognosis. It is often an early event in a disease that is commonly diagnosed in advanced stages, and thus it could offer a timely therapeutic and diagnostic target if better understood. This article systematically reviews the progress of CCA neural invasion-related molecules.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Studies were identified by searching MEDLINE and PubMed databases for articles from January 1990 to December 2009, using the keywords "cholangiocarcinoma," "perineural invasion," "nerve growth factor"(NGF), "neural cell adhesion molecule" (NCAM), "matrix metalloproteinase"(MMP), "neurotransmitter," "acetylcholine" (Ach), and "transforming growth factor" (TGF)." Additional papers and book chapters were identified by a manual search of references from the key articles.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>From above we found that the molecules NGF, NCAM, MMP, Ach and TGF may have prognostic significance in, and offer clues to the mechanism of CCA neural invasion.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Cholangiocarcinoma's increasing worldwide incidence is especially poignant in view of both the lacking effective therapies, and the fact that it is commonly diagnosed in advanced stages. As CCA neural invasion often appears early, more complete characterization of its molecular pathology could lead to the identification of targets for the diagnosis and therapy of this devastating malignancy.</p

    CT-guided microcoil localization for scapula-blocked pulmonary nodules using penetrating lung puncture before video-assisted thoracic surgery

    PURPOSETo retrospectively analyze the effectiveness and safety of computed tomography (CT)-guided microcoil localization for scapula-blocked pulmonary nodules using penetrating lung puncture prior to video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS).METHODSOne hundred thirty-eight patients with 138 pulmonary nodules were included in this single-center retrospective study. Among them, 110 patients who underwent CT-guided microcoil localization using the routine puncture technique formed the routine group; the other 28 patients who underwent the CT-guided microcoil localization using the penetrating lung puncture technique formed the penetrating lung group. The main outcomes were the success rate and complication rate of the two groups.RESULTSThe localization success rate was 95.5% (105/110) in the routine group and 89.3% (25/28) in the penetrating lung group (P = 0.205). There was no statistical difference in any of the complications (pneumothorax, intrapulmonary hemorrhage, or moderate and severe chest pain) in both groups (P = 0.178, P = 0.204, P = 0.709, respectively). Localization procedure time was significantly increased in the penetrating lung group compared with the routine group (31.0 ± 3.0 min vs. 21.2 ± 2.8 min, P < 0.001).CONCLUSIONCT-guided microcoil localization for scapula-blocked pulmonary nodules using penetrating lung puncture prior to VATS resection is effective and safe. However, the deployment of the microcoil using penetrating lung puncture required more time than the routine puncture method
