Allocating Limited Resources to Protect a Massive Number of Targets using a Game Theoretic Model

Resource allocation is the process of optimizing the rare resources. In the area of security, how to allocate limited resources to protect a massive number of targets is especially challenging. This paper addresses this resource allocation issue by constructing a game theoretic model. A defender and an attacker are players and the interaction is formulated as a trade-off between protecting targets and consuming resources. The action cost which is a necessary role of consuming resource, is considered in the proposed model. Additionally, a bounded rational behavior model (Quantal Response, QR), which simulates a human attacker of the adversarial nature, is introduced to improve the proposed model. To validate the proposed model, we compare the different utility functions and resource allocation strategies. The comparison results suggest that the proposed resource allocation strategy performs better than others in the perspective of utility and resource effectiveness.Comment: 14 pages, 12 figures, 41 reference

Few-Mode Fibers With Uniform Differential Mode Group Delay for Microwave Photonic Signal Processing

We present a novel design of few-mode fiber (FMF) with a uniform differential mode group delay (U-DMGD) among propagating modes and apply the FMF to a single-fiber delay line module for implementing microwave photonic finite impulse response (FIR) filters. By optimizing key parameters such as the core grading exponent and the dimension of the trench of FMF, a U-DMGD between adjacent modes among four modes (LP 01 , LP 11 , LP 02 and LP 31 ) over the entire C band is achieved. Wavelength dependence is entirely removed. An FIR microwave photonic filter (MPF) implemented using the designed 1-km FMF is investigated through numerical simulations. The free spectral range (FSR) of the MPF is 5.7 GHz, the 3-dB bandwidth is 1.26 GHz, and the main lobe-to-side lobe ratio (MSR) is 10.42 dB. Discussions on fabrication aspects have also been presented. The proposed single-fiber delay line structure based on FMF can significantly reduce the system complexity of microwave photonic signal processing

The present study demonstrates the development of an Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation method for species of the Sedum genus, which includes the Cd/Zn hyperaccumulator Sedum plumbizincicola and the non-hyperaccumulating ecotype of S. alfredii. Multiple shoots were induced from stem nodes of two Sedum plants using Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing 0.1 mg/L cytokinin 6-benzyladenine (6-BA) and 1.0 mg/L auxin 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA). The shoot primordia were used as direct targets for Agrobacterium infection. Selection on hygromycin was highly effective in generating Agrobacterium-transformed explants. This callus-free procedure allowed us to obtain transgenic plantlets after rooting hygromycin-resistant shoots on phytohormone-free MS medium containing the antibiotic. The presence and expression of the reporter genes gusA and GFP in transgenic plants were confirmed by a real-time polymerase chain reaction, histochemical GUS assays, and confocal microscopy. This reliable method for genetic transformation of Sedum plants will help us to understand gene functions and the molecular mechanisms underlying Cd hypertolerance and hyperaccumulation in these species

Agile service oriented shipping companies in the container terminal

    Get PDF
Agility is regarded as one of the core capabilities and the developing trend of supply chains and their enterprises. Along with the development of economical globalization, supply chain management and containerization as well as container ports as a part of supply chain take more roles like logistics or distribution centers. Under this background, the container terminal should have superior response and develop agility. The main goal of this paper is to emphasize and illustrate the importance and imminence of implementing agility in container terminals. To achieve this goal, the analysis of the economies of scale in the container terminal is presented. In this paper, however, more attention will be paid to agile service oriented shipping companies. The concept and characters of agile service in the container terminal is illustrated. The paper also focuses on the agile organizational structure of the container terminal. Finally, the fuzzy quality synthetic evaluation method is given to evaluate the performance level of agile service in container terminal oriented shipping companies.
