Numerical case studies of vertical wall fire protection using water spray
AbstractStudies of vertical wall fire protection are evaluated with numerical method. Typical fire cases such as heated dry wall and upward flame spread have been validated. Results predicted by simulations are found to agree with experiment results. The combustion behavior and flame development of vertical polymethylmethacrylate slabs with different water flow rates are explored and discussed. Water spray is found to be capable of strengthening the fire resistance of combustible even under high heat flux radiation. Provided result and data are expected to provide reference for fire protection methods design and development of modern buildings
Fabrication and formation mechanism of porous VO2 thin films with superior thermochromic performances
Oxygen tri-clusters make glass highly crack-resistant
Identifying key structural factors that surmount their intrinsic brittleness and poor crack initiation resistance (CR) is crucial for designing glass efficiently and predictably. In this study, we present three significant discoveries that contribute to the design of glasses with superior mechanical performances. Firstly, the CR of the aluminosilicate glasses exhibited a drastic increase when the alumina content surpasses a critical threshold. Secondly, the fraction of three-coordinated oxygens (i.e., oxygen tri-cluster fraction [(3)O]) was successfully quantified using our new Nuclear Magnetic Resonance technique. Thirdly, a correlation between the evolution trend of the [(3)O] and the alumina content was established, which aligns closely with the CR trend. These findings suggest that oxygen tri-clusters play a crucial role in significantly enhancing CR in aluminosilicate glasses.</p

Analysis of functional properties of Lactobacillus acidophilus
Metabolites from Lactobacillus acidophilus were analysed. The results showed that Lactobacillus acidophilus Ind-1 and Lactobacillus acidophilus Lakcid produced respectively 12.73 g and 13.33 g lactic acid l¿1 after incubating in skim milk at 37 °C for 36 h; and 2.229 unit and 1.808 unit ß-galactosidase l¿1 in an MRS medium. The proteolytic activity of Lactobacillus acidophilus was high and the content of 17 free amino acids in the fermented milk of Lactobacillus acidophilus Ind-1 and Lactobacillus acidophilus Lakcid was 394.4 mg l¿1 and 563.2 mg l¿1, respectively. Meantime, Lactobacillus acidophilus reduced cholesterol level in an MRS medium supplemented with cholesterol. Novel structure for magnetic rotation bands in 60Ni
The self-consistent tilted axis cranking relativistic mean-field theory based
on a point-coupling interaction has been established and applied to investigate
systematically the newly observed shears bands in 60Ni. The tilted angles,
deformation parameters, energy spectra, and reduced M1 and transition
probabilities have been studied in a fully microscopic and self-consistent way
for various configurations and rotational frequencies. It is found the
competition between the configurations and the transitions from the magnetic to
the electric rotations have to be considered in order to reproduce the energy
spectra as well as the band crossing phenomena. The tendency of the
experimental electromagnetic transition ratios B(M1)/B(E2) is in a good
agreement with the data, in particular, the B(M1) values decrease with
increasing spin as expected for the shears mechanism, whose characteristics are
discussed in detail by investigating the various contributions to the total

Childhood Absence Epilepsy with Tonic-Clonic Seizures and Electroencephalogram 3–4-Hz Spike and Multispike–Slow Wave Complexes: Linkage to Chromosome 8q24
SummaryChildhood absence epilepsy (CAE), a common form of idiopathic generalized epilepsy, accounts for 5%–15% of childhood epilepsies. To map the chromosomal locus of persisting CAE, we studied the clinical and electroencephalographic traits of 78 members of a five-generation family from Bombay, India. The model-free affected–pedigree member method was used during initial screening with chromosome 6p, 8q, and 1p microsatellites, and only individuals with absence seizures and/or electroencephalogram 3–4-Hz spike– and multispike–slow wave complexes were considered to be affected. Significant P values of .00000–.02 for several markers on 8q were obtained. Two-point linkage analysis, assuming autosomal dominant inheritance with 50% penetrance, yielded a maximum LOD score (Zmax) of 3.6 for D8S502. No other locus in the genome achieved a significant Zmax. For five smaller multiplex families, summed Zmax was 2.4 for D8S537 and 1.7 for D8S1761. Haplotypes composed of the same 8q24 microsatellites segregated with affected members of the large family from India and with all five smaller families.
