In the closed 1,4-cyclohexanedione(CHD) bromate oscillatory reaction, we discovered that stirring can induce transitions between simple and period-doubled oscillations. When illumination was employed to characterize the importance of micro fluctuations of concentrations, the threshold stirring rate for inducing a bifurcation was found to increase proportionally to the intensity of the applied light. Numerical simulations with an existing model illustrate that the experimental phenomena could be qualitatively reproduced by considering effects of mixing on diffusion-limited radical reactions, namely, the disproportion reaction of hydroquinone radicals. A novel light-mediated chemical oscillator, i.e. 1,4-benzoquione(Q-bromate oscillator, was uncovered and investigated systematically in a batch reactor. Dependence of the oscillatory dynamics on the intensity of illumination was characterized. Quenching experiments suggest that the bromate - 1,4-Q oscillator is not only Br- controlled, but also radical-controlled. Oscillations were also investigated in a CSTR system. A mechanism was proposed, which successfully reproduced the experimental phenomena.Dept. of Chemistry and Biochemistry. On C-E Translation of Campus Public Signs: from the Perspective of Functionalist Translation Theory

A public sign is a vocative text. The most important criterion for the translation of public sign is the realization of functionality. At present, there are many poorly-translated public signs on university campus, the reason for which lies in the over-emphasis on form as well as the neglect of the communicative purpose and effect. The C-E translation of public signs should realize the communicative function, and convey the illocutionary and perlocutionary meaning of the source-language text.

An improved BRDF method for 3D textile simulation

    Get PDF
There are some methods suggested by researchers were used to simulate one or two characteristics of textile in the past few years. With 3D geometry models, most of these methods are somewhat complex, and it is difficult to simulate fabric attributes. This paper represents a method for textile simulation based on improved BRDF illumination models. As one simple type of BRDF model, Phong illumination model can be used to simulate fabric 3D geometry model. The more complex BRDF illumination model may be used to simulate fabric 3D structure. The pixel color values, derived from simulating fabric 3D structure, is taken as the parameters to be entered into Phong illumination model. And thus both the fabric 3D geometry model and structure can be achieved, based on which the textile can be simulated successfully and obtain a perfect display effect

The Impact of Time Delay in a Tumor Model

    Get PDF
We consider a free boundary tumor growth model with a time delay in cell proliferation and study how time delay affects the stability and the size of the tumor. The model consists of a coupled system of an elliptic equation, a parabolic equation and an ordinary differential equation to describe the cell location under the presence of time delay, with the tumor boundary as a free boundary. A parameter μ\mu in the model is proportional to the “aggressiveness” of the tumor. It is proved that there exists a unique classical radially symmetric stationary solution (σ,p,R)(\sigma_*,p_*,R_*) which is stable for any μ3˘e0\mu\u3e0 with respect to all radially symmetric perturbations [S. Xu, Q. Zhou, and M. Bai, Qualitative analysis of a time-delayed free boundary problem for tumor growth under the action of external inhibitors]. However, under non-radially symmetric perturbations, we prove that there exists a critical number μ\mu_* such that if μμ\mu\mu_* then the stationary solution is unstable. It is actually unrealistic to expect the problem to be stable for large tumor aggressiveness parameter, therefore our result is more reasonable. Furthermore, it is also proved by the authors that adding the time delay in the model would result in a larger tumor, and if μ\mu is larger, then the time delay would have a greater impact on the size of the tumor
