Canonical, squeezed and fermionic coherent states in a right quaternionic Hilbert space with a left multiplication on it
Using a left multiplication defined on a right quaternionic Hilbert space, we
shall demonstrate that various classes of coherent states such as the canonical
coherent states, pure squeezed states, fermionic coherent states can be defined
with all the desired properties on a right quaternionic Hilbert space. Further,
we shall also demonstrate squeezed states can be defined on the same Hilbert
space, but the noncommutativity of quaternions prevents us in getting the

Achieving More with Less: Extra Milers’ Behavioral Influences in Teams
Teams are composed of individual members who collectively contribute to team success. As a result, contemporary team research tends to focus on how team overall properties (e.g., the average of team personality and behavior) affect team processes and effectiveness while overlooking the potential unique influences of specific members on team outcomes. Drawing on minority influence theory (Grant & Patil, 2012), we extend previous teams research by demonstrating that an extra miler (i.e., a team member exhibiting the highest frequency of extra-role behaviors in a team) can influence team processes and, ultimately, team effectiveness beyond the influences of all the other members. Specifically, based on a field study, we report that the extra miler’s behavioral influences (i.e., helping and voice) on team monitoring and backup processes and team effectiveness are contingent on his or her network position in the team, such that the member tends to have stronger influence on team outcomes when he or she is in a central position. We also find that even a single extra miler in a vital position plays a more important role in driving team processes and outcomes than do all the other members. Therefore, our research offers an important contribution to the team literature by demonstrating the disproportionate influences of specific team members on team overall outcomes.postprin
Non-Gaussian states for continuous variable quantum computation via Gaussian maps
We investigate non-Gaussian states of light as ancillary inputs for
generating nonlinear transformations required for quantum computing with
continuous variables. We consider a recent proposal for preparing a cubic phase
state, find the exact form of the prepared state and perform a detailed
comparison to the ideal cubic phase state. We thereby identify the main
challenges to preparing an ideal cubic phase state and describe the gates
implemented with the non-ideal prepared state. We also find the general form of
operations that can be implemented with ancilla Fock states, together with
Gaussian input states, linear optics and squeezing transformations, and
homodyne detection with feed forward, and discuss the feasibility of continuous
variable quantum computing using ancilla Fock states.Comment: 8 pages, 6 figure
Analysis of craniofacial defects in Six1/Eya1-associated Branchio-Oto-Renal Syndrome
Poster Session I - Morphogenesis: 205/B10117th ISDB 2013 cum 72nd Annual Meeting of the Society for Developmental Biology, 7th Latin American Society of Developmental Biology Meeting and 11th Congreso de la Sociedad Mexicana de Biologia del Desarrollo.Branchio-Oto-Renal (BOR) syndrome patients exhibit craniofacial and renal anomalies as well as deafness. BOR syndrome is caused by mutations in Six1 or Eya1, both of which regulate cell proliferation and differentiation. The molecular mechanism underlying the craniofacial and branchial arch (BA) defects in BOR syndrome is unclear. We have found that Hoxb3 is up-regulated in the second branchial arch (BA2) of Six1-/- mutants. Moreover, Hoxb3 over-expression in transgenic mice leads to BA abnormalities which are similar to the BA defects in Six1-/- or Eya1-/- mutants, suggesting a regulatory relationship among Six1, Eya1 and Hoxb3 genes. The aim of this study is to investigate the molecular mechanism underlying abnormal BA development in BOR syndrome using Six1 and Eya1 mutant mice. Two potential Six1 binding sites were identified on the Hoxb3 gene. In vitro and in vivo Chromatin IP assays showed that Six1 could directly bind to one of the sites specifically. Furthermore, using a chick in ovo luciferase assay we showed that Six1 could suppress gene expression through one of the specific binding sites. On the other hand, in Six1-/- mutants, we found that the Notch ligand Jag1 was up-regulated in BA2. Similarly, in Hoxb3 transgenic mice, ectopic expression of Jag1 could be also detected in BA2. To investigate the activation of Notch signaling pathway, we found that Notch intracellular domain (NICD), a direct indicator of Notch pathway activation, was up-regulated in BAs of Six1-/-; Eya1-/- double mutants. Microwave assisted heterogeneous catalysis: effects of varying oxygen concentrations on the oxidative coupling of methane
The oxidative coupling of methane was investigated over alumina supported La2O3/CeO2 catalysts under microwave dielectric heating conditions at different oxygen concentrations. It was observed that, at a given temperature using microwave heating, selectivities for both ethane and ethylene were notably higher when oxygen was absent than that in oxygen/methane mixtures. The differences were attributed to the localised heating of microwave radiation resulting in temperature inhomogeneity in the catalyst bed. A simplified model was used to estimate the temperature inhomogeneity; the temperature at the centre of the catalyst bed was 85 °C greater than that at the periphery when the catalyst was heated by microwaves in a gas mixture with an oxygen concentration of 12.5% (v/v), and the temperature difference was estimated to be 168 °C in the absence of oxygen
Analysis of feedback mechanisms with unknown delay using sparse multivariate autoregressive method
This paper discusses the study of two interacting processes in which a feedback mechanism exists between the processes. The study was motivated by problems such as the circadian oscillation of gene expression where two interacting protein transcriptions form both negative and positive feedback loops with long delays to equilibrium. Traditionally, data of this type could be examined using autoregressive analysis. However, in circadian oscillation the order of an autoregressive model cannot be determined a priori. We propose a sparse multivariate autoregressive method that incorporates mixed linear effects into regression analysis, and uses a forward-backward greedy search algorithm to select nonzero entries in the regression coefficients, the number of which is constrained not to exceed a pre-specified number. A small simulation study provides preliminary evidence of the validity of the method. Besides the circadian oscillation example, an additional example of blood pressure variations using data from an intervention study is used to illustrate the method and the interpretation of the results obtained from the sparse matrix method. These applications demonstrate how sparse representation can be used for handling high dimensional variables that feature dynamic, reciprocal relationships

Wavelength-multiplexed duplex transceiver based on III-V/Si hybrid integration for off-chip and on-chip optical interconnects
A six-channel wavelength-division-multiplexed optical transceiver with a compact footprint of 1.5 x 0.65 mm(2) for off-chip and on-chip interconnects is demonstrated on a single silicon-on-insulator chip. An arrayed waveguide grating is used as the (de)multiplexer, and III-V electroabsorption sections fabricated by hybrid integration technology are used as both modulators and detectors, which also enable duplex links. The 30-Gb/s capacity for each of the six wavelength channels for the off-chip transceiver is demonstrated. For the on-chip interconnect, an electrical-to-electrical 3-dB bandwidth of 13 GHz and a data rate of 30 Gb/s per wavelength are achieved
